Chapter 75
(Noah POV)
I turn toward the direction from where we came, loosening my hold on Maya. I feel her fall through my grip and fall to the floor kneeling and crying.
“No not again!” She cried out.
I kneel beside her and wrap my arms around her. “We will find them Maya I promise.”
She leans into my chest and her body shakes in my arms as she sobs. She had been separated from two of her mates, and my friends had been taken away. I made a promise to myself as I held my unconcealable mate, the next time we stood before Alpha Kace he would not walk away alive. I turned toward where Thomas still stood scanning the area, when I heard a number of people walking toward us.
“Thomas.” A deep male voice says.
My eyes follow the sound to a group of what looks like some kind of soldiers or guards dressed in off white silk garments and they held spears.
“The council waits for you in the main hall.” The man says glancing down to me and Maya.
His face morphs into some sort of disapproving scowl, although subtle, it didn’t go unnoticed.
“Come and stay close. Wolves are not exactly liked here.” Thomas warns.
We help Maya to her feet and secure her between the two of us. The group of men lead us toward a large building that I assumed was the main hall, a short walk from where we had arrived. Once at the steps of the building the man extended his hand.
“They wait for you inside.” He says.
We make a slow pace up the steps and when we arrive at the doors, they open before we pass the final step and two similar looking men wait for us inside. If I didn’t feel the need to stay on my guard, I would have taken more time to better appreciate just how beautiful it all was. The building was all one big room, with pillars along both sides. It reminded me of a roman temple, but everything felt soft and relaxed. We walked down a carpeted path that led to a raised podium with several people sitting and waiting for us to make our way to the end of this walk.
“Council.” Thomas says bowing to them.
“Explain yourself Thomas! Why have you requested these wolves be allowed into our land?” One very angry sounding council member asked.
Did they not recognize Maya?
“This is Maya, the one I was sent to instruct. She is also my bonded mate.” Thomas says hesitating a little. “And this is one of her wolf mates Noah. The two others have been captured by Alpha Kace, and I asked to bring them here to protect them.”
If I did not realize the seriousness of the situation, I would have laughed at the way their eyes widened when Thomas had finished speaking.
“She is the daughter of….” One of the women gasped slightly before covering her mouth.
“The daughter of Eliza.” Another member says.
I turned to Thomas and whispered, “Why do they seem so surprised to see her?”
“They have not seen Maya before. Her mother came only once before she was born.” Thomas says.
“You say Alpha Kace came for her before you came to us?” One of the council members asked.
“Yes, and took two of Maya’s other mates.” Thomas repeated.
“Four mates….” One began.
“Four elements…” Another finished.
“Yes, she holds the powers of all four nature elements. But she holds one more power not of the original four Fae abilities. She holds the power of light energy as well.” Thomas says.
“That is not possible! No Fae has held that power in a thousand years.” One of the council members say.
“It’s true! He day I was sent to her I had to sedate her because she was drawing in too much energy and nearly destroyed the house she was staying in.” Thomas explains.
Thomas then turns to Maya and helps her step forward.
“Maya do you think you can show them?” He asks her softly.
I wanted to protest, because she had only been training for a short time and we knew first-hand how dangerous this power is. Instead, she nods and steps closer to the council members and lowers her head. Thomas steps back and stops beside me.
“Are you sure about this? She could lose control!” I ask Thomas nervously.
“She can do this.” Thomas says with a firm smile.
I turn to watch Maya, and I see her take a deep breath. As if from nowhere, small light sticks flash around her and she absorbs them with ease.
“The air has light energy that’s naked to our eyes, but she can feel it and pull that power within her.” Thomas says watching her in awe.
Maya holds her hands out, palms up, on either side of her body at shoulder level. The small flashes of light is absorbed into each palm and after a few short moments she closes her hands tightly. She takes one more breath before lifting her head and facing the council. It all happens so fast but one moment she is standing before these strangers and the next she cries out and leans down slamming her hand to the ground. As soon as her hand meets the ground a ball of light surrounds her like a shield, and she stands tall once more.
Everyone in the room looks to her in shock, and Thomas laughs quietly. I had to give him credit, I had not thought she would have mastered this power quite so well so soon. She had mastered her other powers far easier, but this one was the one she struggled with the most. Yet, here she was standing surrounded by light energy and looking like a beautiful goddess of light.
“How can this be?” One of the council women asks looking to the others.
“It shouldn’t be. She is only part Fae, and yet she holds one of the strongest and most ancient Fae power inside her.” They began to whisper to each other in confusion.
Then Maya swipes a hand across her chest and the light shrinks into a small sphere in her hand and she closes her hand around it. Thomas steps close to her and wraps an arm around her waist and smiles down at her. She returns a weak smile, but I can see whatever she had just done had taken a lot out of her.
“You have brought before a very special girl, but I am afraid in the matter of Alpha Kace there is nothing we can do.” An older council member says.
“Please, I have to get Tommy and Eli back! He will kill them!” Maya pleads.
“I am sorry, but we can no longer involve this council with the Kace family. All ties to that family has been severed.” The council says.
“Why?” Maya asks.
“Those things do not concern you.” Another member says with a sharp glance.
“Like hell it’s has nothing to do with me! Alpha Kace is my father! My mother was Fae, and you bound Thomas to me. There has to be something going on, something you are trying to keep buried! I have a right to know why my whole life has been completely turned upside down! Why I had to watch my mother bleed out in front of my eyes, and why I was hunted across country to be taken prisoner and used as a weapon! You have no right to keep the truth from me, not after everything!” Maya yells.
The room begins to shake slightly as her words echo around the room. Thomas leans down and rests his head against hers and whispers in her ear. The council members look nervously around them as the chairs they are sitting on rattle against the floor loudly.
“I suggest you tell her what she wants to know before this whole building falls.” I say stepping up and standing on the other side of Maya.
“Yes, ok! Stop this now!” She does as the ask and slowly the room steadies again.
Thomas looks to me and then to Maya, finally Maya was going to get the answers she had been searching for. And maybe we could find a way to get Tommy and Eli back before it was too late. At this point I was sure there was nothing Maya couldn’t do; she was one of the strongest people I had ever met. She was not going to leave until these people helped us, and neither would I.
