Chapter 118
**Tommy** **POV**
Maya was quiet the whole way back home and although we wanted to offer her some kind of comfort, there was nothing we could say to change the fact that who’s had been a sign. Someone had attacked a pack member and left him alive as if it was supposed to be a warning. We need to be ready for anything and that meant we needed to gather as much help as possible.
I had left my dad in charge back home and my pack needed me but Maya and my mate brothers needed me more. My son needed me more. They were my family and I was not going to leave them when someone has made a move against them. So as soon as we returned to the house I locked myself in Maya’s room to call my dad.
“Tommy?” He is sounding better which gives me comfort that the pack is in good hands.
“Hey, dad. Look I need your help. One of Maya’s pack members was attacked and evidence and his description of the attacker are leading us to believe the Blood Demons are behind it. We could use as much help here as we can get in case another attack is coming. Can you prepare some men to come here for the time being?” Silence. “Dad?”
“Look, son. I don’t think that’s a good idea.” He says quietly like he doesn’t want anyone to overhear him.
“What? Dad, we need help here.” I say more urgently. “I am the Alpha, I need my pack, so they need to come.”
“You aren’t the Alpha yet son. My men will remain here.” I swear my heart stopped and dropped to my stomach with dread.
“Dad what are you doing?” He was planning something.
His voice…
“Dad! I am asking for our packs help to protect my mate and her people. Not only them but your grandson!” Panic was rising in my chest.
“You aren’t ready for the position of Alpha son, so I think it's best that you stay with your mate. She has a pack of her own, and wouldn’t it be best if you remained there. There is nothing here for you.” He says, his voice turning cold and emotionless.
What has he done?
“Dad, this is serious. The blood demons have the sights set on our kind and we are all at risk even our pack. We need to come together.” He was crazy if he denied that we were all in danger, even him.
“The Blood Demons have not come near us in hundreds of years. There is no reason that they would attack this pack. Maybe it’s the girl they want, in which case she and all connected to her will only bring danger. So stay son, be with your mate and your friends, that will protect my pack.”
“Dad you can't mean that. This isn’t Maya’s fault! She can save our people.” I remind him.
“She is one person son, you put too much faith in her abilities. The Fae may have hoped she would somehow be a savior but you have seen what’s happened since she came here. Everything has fallen apart because of her, and I plan on fixing that. So stay son, and don’t come back.” I don’t get a chance to reply or yell or any of the many things I wanted to do in this moment because he ends the call.
I pull my phone away from my ear and look down at it in disbelief. Then anger takes its place and I let out a thundering growl before throwing my phone at the wall. I watch it shatter into dozens of pieces and I stay looking at the pile of destruction and my chest heaves with each angry breath I force into my lungs.
“Tommy?” Maya’s voice cuts through the darkness in my mind just enough to catch my attention but I barely see her.
My mind is fogged with animalistic rage that I am seeing red.
“Tommy. It’s okay.” The pulsing light of her figure draws closer to me and I let out a low growl of warning which stops her in her tracks.
“Tommy? Come on tell me what’s going on. Y-your eyes…what happened?” Her calm voice is reaching me but I can't stop the rage consuming me.
My father has turned against us. He has denied me the right to become Alpha. My birthday right! He has denied to help his family!
All of this runs through my mind over and over again. I let out another growl that I am sure half the house could hear. My body is starting to vibrate and ache all over. The urge to shift was almost painful.
“Okay, Tommy…I need you to come back okay? Your body wants to shift, but in your state, it could be too dangerous. You need to let your mind clear. Come back to me, Tommy.” She says holding her hands straight in front of her with her palms up, a submissive posture.
I snarl at her and start to pace the room, but I am not calm enough yet. It had been too long since I had let my wolf out and with this much anger, it was hard holding that side of me back. Every word from my father feeds into the urge to get revenge for the betrayal. The thirst for blood growing every second.
“Tommy. I need you to look at me.” Maya says but I ignore her.
I want to be angry. I am done playing nice. I am done worrying about a pack that turned its back on me and my mate. They deserve death for what they have done. I am their reckoning.
“Tommy.” A sharp pain hits me like a bullet to the head and I stumble back.
I growl out and my body starts to shake making me fall to my knees.
That…was…Alpha power.
I turn to look at her and she is heaving with heavy breaths and her eyes have shifted into the pure white that is the signature of her powers.
"Maya..." My head is absolutely clear now.
Her body is tense in a defensive stance like she was ready to attack if I wouldn't back down.
"Maya it's okay. I'm back. You brought me back." I say standing slowly.
Her eyes move with me even though it seems impossible that she can see me at all with her eyes clouded over.
I try to step toward her but she steps back.
"Maya it's okay, I won't hurt you," I tell her but she continues to move away from me.
"Tommy...somethings wrong." She says looking down at her hands and her body like she is looking for an injury of some kind.
"What are you feeling?" I ask her looking her over as well.
There is nothing different about her that I can see, other than her eyes.
"Ah!" She cries out suddenly and crumbles into herself.
"Maya, what's wrong?" I ask rushing to her side.
"It feels like fire...burning everywhere." She says her face scrunched in pain.
She whimpers and stumbles to her knees.
"Get help!" She says but the sound hits me hard and I fall back, eyes wide.
She wasn't in control of her Alpha power at that moment and it felt like a punch to the gut. Her powers were spinning out of control again. It seemed like any time she tried to reach for her power it would start a domino effect of instability. She had to reach for her Alpha power to pull me back and now she was spiraling.
"I'll get Thomas," I say scrambling to my feet and making a dash for the door.
I didn't have to go far because Thomas was rushing up the stairs and nearly collided with me.
"What's happened?" He asks. "Maya was screaming into my mind."
"I don't know. She helped bring me back from shifting with her Alpha voice but now she can't seem to come back all the way. She is in pain." I tell him quickly.
He pushes past me and runs into Maya's room. Panic hits me the moment I see her lying motionless on the floor.
"Maya!" I cry out before rushing to kneel beside her.
Thomas is on the other side of her checking her for a pulse.
"She's alive." He says moving to slowly open her eyes.
Her eyes were still white as snow.
"What's wrong with her then?" I ask him holding Maya's hand tight.
"I don't know. I am trying to get a sense of her mind but it's blocked." He says looking down at her as if the answers would be on her face.
"Come on baby wake up," I whisper. "Should we take her to the hospital?"
"I am not sure if they can help but I think we should." He says leaning down and picking her up.
He rushes toward the door as fast as he can without dropping Maya and I follow closely after him.
When we get downstairs Noah and Eli jump up from the couch.
"What happened?" Eli asks circling around the couch and stopping beside us.
"We don't know for sure, we need to take her to the hospital," I tell him and he nods.
He heads for the door and throws it open for us.
"I'll stay with Isaiah. Let me know what's going on!" Noah calls out after us but none of us stop to acknowledge him.
The threes of us rush toward the hospital as fast as we can on foot and when we burst through the doors all eyes turn to us.
"We need help!" I call out and several nurses come running with a gurney.
Thomas lays her down and a doctor appears next to Maya and shouting orders to the nurses as they run down the hallway. We follow them to a room with tons of windows but before we can go inside the doctor stops us.
"You guys can't come in, I'm sorry." She says before turning and running toward Maya's bedside, the door sealing shut behind her.
Chaos. That's what it looks like from where the three of us stand watching and waiting. The nurses look panicked and the doctor is calling out orders at a amazing rate. Maya is connected to monitors now and the numbers are all over the place.
"What's happening to her? they don't seem to know what to do." Eli points out and I am quick to agree.
"We have no way of knowing how the energy she absorbed front the Fae world would affect her. She hadn't used her powers since until the Alpha meeting and then again today. Her system might be going into overdrive from pure energy. She is supposed to be able to withstand an immense amount of energy but the pure power of an entire realm may have been too much.
"You're saying that it could kill her," I say and he looks at me without answering.
He didn't have to. It was happening right in front of our eyes. Maya was dying. I had forced her to use her powers, a power she had never used before and now...we couldn't lose her. Not now. Not ever.
