Chapter 120
**Noah**
“Is mommy okay?” Isaiah had been asking about Maya since she was rushed to the hospital last night.
The guys called and told me everything the doctor told them about her condition. They also told me that they think she reacted to them but there hasn’t been any change.
How could this happen?
Our mate is constantly hurting, but she never complains to us. She fights every emotion inside her mind and puts on a brave face for all of us even though we can see in her eyes that she is scared. We try not to push her but she thinks that she needs to fight all these battles alone, and that is far from true.
She never stops us from helping in other ways when we want to but she never asks anything of us. I wish for once she could have peace.
“Mommy is sick pup, but the doctors are taking really good care of her,” I say trying to keep our son as calm as possible but it was becoming more difficult the longer Maya was gone.
He isn’t his usual playful self like he can sense how serious the situation is even though he is too young to understand.
He fell asleep on the couch waiting for Maya and the others to come back and it’s been hard to get him to leave it since. I don’t have the heart to make him move, so I made the whole area as comfortable as possible.
We were cuddled together on said couch now eating waffles and watching his favorite morning show. He asks me for some juice so I quickly run to the kitchen and grab him a juice box.
“How does Apple juice sound pup? It’s your favorite…Isaiah?” When I walk back toward the couch I notice him sitting up straight and on the edge of his seat, completely silent.
I walk around the couch and lean over to look at him and I immediately drop the juice to the floor.
“Isaiah! Pup? Can you hear me?” I was kneeling in front of him now and shaking him just enough to try and get his attention without hurting him.
He doesn’t respond at all. His now milk-white eyes are fixed straight ahead and his body is still.
“Isaiah!” He still says nothing.
My heart starts to race and I try to think of what to do. Do I take him to the hospital? Is it safe to even move him? This looks just like what happened to Maya, but it can’t be the same. Can it? Isaiah hasn’t used any powers not even after he absorbed the energy from the Fae world. So what was causing this?
I sit on the coffee table in front of him and take one of his hands in mine while I dial Eli’s number.
“Hey.” He says when he finally picks up. “Sorry, they have us keep our phones silent in here. I don’t have an update yet but-“
“Eli I’m not calling about that. It’s about Isaiah!” I say cutting him off.
“What? What’s happened?” He asks quickly, the sound of panic rising in his voice.
We are all pretty on edge right now and this has only made things worse.
“I don’t know. One second he was fine and then I went to get him some juice and came back to him in some kind of trance. He can’t hear me and he isn’t moving. Eli, his eyes are completely white.” I’m breathing hard after explaining everything, the panic settling deep in my chest.
“Just like Maya,” Eli says.
“Yes! What do I do? His body is completely stiff, I’m not sure if it’s safe to move him.”
“Hang on,” Eli says and I hear the sound of a door closing and thudding footsteps.
“Doctor, I need your help. Our son is showing similar symptoms as Maya, but his body is stiff and we aren’t sure if it’s safe to move him.” I hear him say.
“I can send someone right away to check on him.” I hear a woman reply and her fading voice is giving instructions to whoever is coming to help us.
“They are sending someone there now, I’m coming too. Tommy and Thomas will stay with Maya.” He says before hanging up.
I drop my phone beside me and take both of Isaiah’s hands in mine. Still, he does nothing.
“Someone is coming to help you pup. Just hang on.” I whisper to him squeezing his hands just a little tighter to let him know I’m with him.
It doesn’t take long before Eli is rushing through the door with a nurse right behind him.
“How is he?” Eli asks sitting next to Isaiah and looking him over quickly.
“He still hasn’t moved,” I say standing and making room for the nurse to check our pup.
She goes over the basics before pulling out a small light and shining it at different angles into Isaiah’s eyes. Her face gives nothing away other than furrowed brows that seem to be from intense concentration.
She examines one eye and moves to the next but before she can do anything, Isaiah lets out a loud gasp and the nurse stumbles back a little. Isaiah’s body relaxes and Eli immediately pulls him into his lap.
“What happened?” He asks the nurse.
I am standing right behind them and looking to the nurse for answers.
She shakes her head. “I don’t know. He was unresponsive and then the white of his eyes receded and he was back.”
“Is he okay?” I ask and she leans closer to redo her previous exam.
“He seems completely fine now. Would you still like to bring him to the hospital?” She asks and I shake my head.
“If he gets worse we’ll bring him but I want to keep him here right now. Thank you.” I tell her and she stands, offers us a small head bow, and leaves.
“Pup? How are you feeling?” Eli asks Isaiah softly.
“Their coming daddy,” Isaiah says and I furrow my brow.
Who?
“Who’s coming pup?” Eli asks.
“The men with red eyes,” Isaiah says and my blood runs cold.
The Blood Demons.
“How do you know pup?” I ask walking around to sit on the other side of them.
“I saw them. In my dream. They want Mommy.” Isaiah tries his best to explain.
I look up to Eli and I see my fear reflected in his eyes as well.
“Isaiah, did you see them just now?” I ask our son trying to keep my voice steady.
He nods.
“Can you tell us what else you saw?” I didn’t want him to be afraid but if he somehow saw something important we needed to know.
We needed to keep him safe. We needed to protect our family and the pack.
“There are lots of people…hurt and fighting.” He says in his broken speech.
“Did he see the future?” Eli asks me and I shrug.
“It sounds like it. But why? And how?" I ask not really expecting an answer.
“I don’t…”
“Mommy look like an angel,” Isaiah says suddenly.
“In your dream?” I ask him.
He nods.
“Okay pup. Rest now.” Eli says pulling Isiah closer and letting the small boy move his small body closer.
He closes his eyes and starts to fall asleep.
“What do you think all that means? He saw us fighting The Blood Demons and then…Maya looks like an Angel? When-“ Again we are interrupted but this time it’s from a knock at the door.
I quickly stand and pull it open with enough force to cause a gush of air to hit me. One of our sentries is standing at the door with smears of blood all over him.
“What happened?” I ask him stepping forward and catching him as he falls to his knees.
“They’re dead. All dead.” He says before he collapses completely.
I lift my head to look out over the road he came from and I see a trail of blood he left when he stumbled to our house. A second later Eli comes to the door and swears under his breath before rushing to my side and kneeling down to check the sentries pulse.
“Shit. He’s gone.” He says. “We need to get Tommy or Thomas back here to watch Isaiah. I need to see if there are any more injured by the border.”
“Call them on the way. I’ll call someone to come help with him.” I say looking down at our fallen pack member.
He pulls out his phone as he takes off down the road and I slowly release the man in my arms and lay him gently to the ground. Once I am free to move I stand and pull my phone out and call Tommy.
“Hey, what's up?”
“I need you to get here now. Something’s happened.” I tell him, my voice tight with urgency.
“I’m on my way.” He says firmly.
“Have someone from the morgue come too,” I tell him and he doesn’t ask me why.
“Okay.”
I slip my phone back into the pocket of my pants.
How many were killed this time? He said ‘they are all dead'.
Isaiah said they were coming. Was his vision already coming true? Is this the first strike?
As if summoning the answer I hear screams coming from the west side of the pack. The urge to run over and help my pack is strong, but my son is inside asleep and he is my priority now. So, with reluctance, I leave my dead pack member and rush inside to grab Isaiah and find somewhere safe to hide. I send Eli a quick message to be sure he keeps me updated before sending messages to the rest of my mate brothers. We were separated which is never a good thing when heading into a fight, but we were the best trained to come out of our old pack.
Tommy responds saying he is on his way and I tell him to send word to the other packs. We may need that army sooner than we thought.
All we needed to do is hold off our enemies until our angel wakes up.
**Maya**
Blood seeping into the earth. Darkness and death all around me. Nothing left. Everything gone. Everyone….gone.
No.
No!
“You must be born again Maya. You must return if this is the future you do not wish to see come true. You must fight.”
“How? How can I?” I ask the melodic voice in the shadow.
“Burn away the person you once were and build yourself anew. Only when you leave that version of you behind can you become who you were born to be.”
“Who are you?” I ask turning in circles trying to see where the voice is coming from.
“A friend. Someone who helped bring you into this world. I can't stay long, but help is coming. You need to return to your family and hold on as long as you can and I will do what I can to help you. You will have the army you need.” The voice fades then and then the entire room ignites.
White flame explodes all around me and I watch the room I'm in start to burn, everything except me. The flames draw toward me and dance along my skin but do not burn me. The flame feels warm and welcoming and I let out a shaky breath closing my eyes and letting the flames engulf me.
From a flame, be born anew.
Evolve. Become who I was meant to be.
Maya…not a queen, but a Goddess of the supernatural.
