Chapter 54

Carlos looked at his phone and there were fifteen missed calls from Kelsey, he tossed his phone after putting it on silent before he slept off.

The next morning Triffany woke up from the couch, she went over to the bed where Carlos was still asleep, she touched his forehead as he opened his eyes.

"What are you doing?" He looked at her.

She immediately removed her hand. "I was checking your body temperature." She smiled. "I think you're okay now."

Carlos sat up." I'm fine." He removed the quilt.

"Okay then." She turned to leave but he held her hands and whirled her around to face him but she slipped from the sudden movement and hugged him.

They stay that way for a moment surprised to be in such a position before Triffany pulled away. "What's your problem?" She shouted.

"I...I.. .you.." Carlos stammered. "Why did you whirl around?" He asked her finding words at last.

Triffany scoffed. "You held my hands and pulled me to you." She pointed at her hands that he had held. "Now you're blaming me for whirling around."

Carlos touched the back of his hair and looked away. "I'm hungry." He said softly.

Triffany looked at him. "Then prepare breakfast for yourself or order the maids to fix you something."

"I'm still sick." He looked at her blinking his cute eyes.

Triffany scoffed. "You're okay, you can prepare a meal for yourself." She walked back to the couch and pat her shoulders. "Why do I feel pain around my body?" She thought out loud to herself, Carlos heard it and look at her.

He picked up his phone. "How was your interview?"

"Huh!" Triffany looked at him surprised that he asked unlike him.

"Did you pass?" He asked looking directly at her with his penetrating eyes.

"Yes." She nods.

Carlos stood up and went over to the sofa opposite her couch. "Congratulation." Triffany stared at his face with wide eyes.

She wonders why he was acting nice all of a sudden, she shakes her head not sure about him being nice, just yesterday he said rude things to her and today he is saying congratulations, she wonders what he was trying to do now.

"Hey, why are you staring at me?" He asked when he noticed her staring.

Triffany shakes her head. "Nothing." She picked up her laptop to go through some file.

"What's that?" He asked her when he saw how focused she was.

"This." She looked at him. "I was asked to edit a file sent to me."

"Can you do it?" He asked.

"I can try, though I haven't done it before." She had read the first chapter and had seen few errors and she has been looking some words up to fit in.

"Then how are you going to do it?" He puts his phone away and crossed his legs.

She rubs her face. "Like I said I will try." She put down her laptop. "Can you edit a book?"

"Yes," Carlos answered and Triffany smiled and he paused. "What?"

"Then help me." She blinks.

"Why should I?" He said indifferently.

Triffany looked down at her laptop. "I'm sure you can't do it." She tried this other way in other to get him to help her.

Carlos stood up. "I can but right now I'm hungry and have to attend to work."

Triffany lay down on her couch. "I knew it." She pouts.

Carlos looked at her. "What? Knew what?"

"It's difficult." She muttered.

Carlos rolls his eyes. "Come with me." Triffany looked up at him. "Huh!"

Carlos held her hands and pulled her up, still holding her hands to her surprise he leads her downstairs to an office filled with books as he closed the door.

"Why are we here?" Triffany asked looking around. This was a place she has never entered before.

He left her hand. "These were books I edited and published when I was younger." Triffany's mouth parted in surprise.

"All these?"

"Not all of them, but a few, you can check the name of the author, editor and publisher if you wish, you will find my name written in them."

Triffany looked up a few and was surprised, she looks at Carlos and was a little bit impressed, what Nick and Gabby said was true, Carlos was good at many things.

"To publish a book is easy, you need to learn the craft of fiction writing and learning the craft doesn't only require reading, you should attend conferences and listen to webcasts."

"It's easy to say in words." She went close to him.

"I know editing a book is a job that's hard to come by but you can still do it, just take yourself as the reader and break it down to the way you can understand," Carlos explains and Triffany couldn't help but smile.

This was Carlos helping her out and not the other one telling her to space around the room like some errands girl, he was admirable now.

"You're a genius." The words came out of her mouth before she stopped it.

Carlos smiled proudly. "I told you it was simple, you should try it out, chapter by chapters."

Triffany smile, Carlos today was different from the one of the other days.

Gabby came back home and saw Triffany at home working on something on her computer. "Hi, Triffany," Gabby called out happily and came over to her.

"Gabby, you're back." Triffany closed her laptop and smiled.

Gabby sat down on the chair across Triffany's. "I went to my grandparents home."

"That's, no wonder I didn't see you at home this morning and last night. How was your trip?"

"Awesome." Gabby adjusted on her sit. "My grandmother wants you and Carlos to come over one of these days, she's willing to prepare her awesome traditional dish for you. You'd love it."

Triffany smiled. "Grandmas do make delicious meals." Her eyes became distant as she remembered her grandmother.

"What about your grandparents?" Gabby asked, seeing Triffany's expression.

"They died before I turned six."

"I'm so sorry, well, you'd go with me to see my grandparents next time." Gabby flashed her a smile.

"Yeah." Triffany nods.

"How was your interview yesterday?" Gabby asked curiously.

"I got the job." Triffany bites down her lower lips to suppress the joy.

"Congratulations!" Gabby made a little dance of joy. "We need to celebrate this," Gabby said standing up.

"It's okay, I'm too happy already." Triffany look at Gabby, damn this girl knows how to get happy for someone's success, it makes Triffany happy too.

Gabby looked at her. "I don't agree with you at all." Gabby checked her wristwatch. "It's around lunchtime." She looked up at Triffany. "Go get dressed, we're going out."

"Huh!" Triffany looked at her in surprise, she thought the party Gabby refer to was only drinking small champagne at home.

"To celebrate, let's eat lunch out." Gabby helped Triffany up from her chair. "Come on, I love congratulations and parties and they both go well together."

Triffany saw there was no way she can win if she protests. She went upstairs into her room and opened her closet wondering what she would wear.
