Chapter 86

Stay away from me!

This word keeps playing in her mind till she arrived at her cousin’s apartment. After work Triffany couldn’t go home since she knew how angry Carlos was.

“Triffany, what’s wrong?” Allison who saw how gloomy and pale her face was, asked. And looking closely you can see that she had cried a lot.

Triffany sat down and started sobbing again. “Allison, I did wrong.” She said with a choked voice.

“How, Triffany?” Allison sat next to her.

“Now Carlos will never love me.” She cries. She had hoped that one day Carlos will love her, that soon he will fall in love with her, but now, with what he witnessed, he will never do that. “He will divorce me.” Triffany closed her eyes as tears rolled down her cheek.

I don’t want to see or hear what you want to say, I have seen enough.

Carlos word came to her mind again, truly he will hate her. Just last night, he had told her, he doesn’t dislike her, maybe now he does. No, now he surely despises her.

“What did you do this time, Mrs Trouble?” Nick asked her, knowing fully well that her tears were because of what she did. She was always clumsy and gets herself in troubles.

“Nick stop adding fuel to the fire.” Allison glared at her brother.

Nick shrugged. “I am just saying the obvious.” He told her and turned to Triffany. “Triffany what did you do?” He asked again.

“Carlos saw Tommy kissed me.” She told them.

“What!” Allison covered her lips. “Someone kissed you and Carlos saw that?” Allison looked at her and Triffany nods.

“I knew this… it’s Tommy Maxwell right?” Triffany nods. Nick attended the same university as Triffany so, she knew Tommy very well and he knew that Tommy has always admired her just like the rest of them. “If I were Carlos I will be mad and file a divorce.”

“Nick, those words are harsh!” Allison said sharply.

Nick shrugged “That’s the truth.” Nick told Allison.

“What do I do now?” Triffany asked in tears.

“You should go home and explain to him, tell him the truth. He would listen to you.” Allison suggested to her.

Nick shook his head. “If I were Carlos I won’t want to hear a thing from you. So just get ready for a divorce.” He told him and Triffany sobs.

“Nick!” Allison yells at him. “Can you be more gentle and positive?”

Nick rolled his eyes. “In Tiffany's case, I won’t.” He scoffed when he saw her in tears. “She needs some serious scolding.”

Allison glared at her brother and then turned to Triffany who was still in tears and embraced her as Triffany sob on her shoulder.

Triffany got home and saw Carlos who just came out of the bathroom and was getting dressed. “Are you going out?” She asked him.

Carlos ignored her and put on his shirt. She walked close to him. “Carlos I am so sorry, it’s not what you think.” She said softly.

Carlos turned to her sharply. “What is there not to think Triffany?” He asked coldly and she shuddered. “You kissed the person you called your friend and you fully know Gabby loves him.”

He scanned her as she disgusts him. “What the heck have you been doing all those while you went to his house and out with him?” Just thinking of them being cosy together whenever they are all alone annoys him.

“That’s not true,” Triffany told him as tears rolled down her cheek.

Carlos scoffed at her tears. “What’s not true huh!” He raised his voice. “You don’t wear our wedding ring and I am sure you pretend to be single just to lead him on. It’s obvious since you still go by Triffany Joey, instead of my name.”

He shook his head like he was looking at someone so unfamiliar. “I thought you were someone I know, but you are not.” He put on his coat.

“Carlos it happened so fast, I didn’t know he would kiss me. I was only trying to tell him how much Gabby loves him, but he just did it.” Triffany explained.

Carlos sneered at her word. “Have I ever kissed you? Have we kissed as married couples?” He looked at her. “But, you let someone else do that.”

He grimaced. “Triffany, just stay out of my way.” He picked up his coat and then looked at her wet face. “Your parents are waiting. They are back at home. Tanner is ready to leave. Come downstairs.” He told her coldly and left the room.

Triffany held her aching chest as she sobs uncontrollably. “What have I done?” She buried her face in her palm.

They arrived at Trevor’s house as Tanner embraced his parents, glad to see them. Carlos exchanged pleasantries with them as they all sat down for dinner.

Laura noticed the mood between Carlos and Triffany, it was not like this at the hospital when they had come to visit them.

She looked at Carlos and Gabby. “This meal will not taste like the rich meal you both have at your mansion, but this is the best I could come up with.”

Carlos smiles warmly at her. “It is very delicious, it’s good to try out a new meal, especially from a mother.” Laura smile. Triffany looked at him, she was glad that even if he was angry with her, he was nice to her parents.

“I am glad you like it, have more.” She added fresh fish to his rice and he smile and thanked her.

“Mom, I will have some too,” Triffany told her mother and she smiled and gave it to her.

“Mom, dad, Miss Gabby here is so beautiful, I will get married to her when I grow up,” Tanner told them and they all chuckled.

“You’re so cute, grow up fast then,” Gabby told him with smiles on her lips.

“I will,” Tanner told her and continue eating. All through dinner Carlos did not spare Triffany a glance and she just looked down, thinking of him hating her,

After dinner, they all sat in the living room, except Triffany who was doing the dishes in the kitchen. “Thank you so much, Carlos and Gabby, for taking good care of Tanner. He told me how comfortable his stay at your place was.” Trevor said gratefully.

“He is also family,” Carlos told him.

“He can come over any time, we enjoyed his stay with us,” Gabby added.

“Thank you,” Trevor told them.

In the kitchen, Laura moved close to Triffany and leaned on the wall as she studied her daughter who looks absent-minded. “Triffany, what is wrong?” She asked.

“Huh!” Triffany looked at her mother, now knowing she was close to her.

‘You are not your usual self today, did you argue with Carlos?” She asked, her motherly instinct told her that something was wrong. “Is Something wrong?”

Triffany forced a smile. “No mom.” She lied. “We are fine.” She hates lying to her mother, but how can she tell her mother that Carlos witnessed her kissing another man and now he might want to divorce her.

Laura looked at her closely. “I have not seen this look on your face before,” Laura said, Triffany has always been a cheerful lady and she knows her daughter very well.

“I am a good mom.” Triffany smiled broadly to convince her mother. “We better head out now.” She told her after finishing up.

“Okay, but feel free to tell me anything,” Laura said, still a bit worried.

Triffany nods and held her mother arm in a hug. “Sure I will.” She said with a smile. If only she can sleep here with them and cuddle in her mother’s arms without being obvious, she would have. But with her mother’s curiosity, there was no way she won’t have to tell her if she stays.
