Chapter 57
Gabby met with Tommy at a coffee shop. “I’m surprised you called today,” Gabby said smiling, she had been waiting and expecting a call from him for a long time.
“Guess what?” Tommy smiled.
Gabby stared for a while because his smile was so charming and dazzling that it makes her feel lost at times. “What?”
“I met with my first love,” Tommy told her happily.
Gabby stopped smiling. “Really?” She sipped her coffee and looked down.
“Yes and she’s now extra pretty.”
Gabby looked at Tommy’s happy face and forced a smile. “I’m happy for you.”
“Thank you and there is another extra.”
“What.”
“She is working with me and it’s a good chance to start over with her again,” Tommy told her and Gabby’s face fell. “I will make sure I let my feelings out this time like I’m so happy that I have to tell someone about it.”
Gabby looked at him and her heart ached, she loved him but he can’t see it, she smiled when she saw him looking at her.
“Gabby I will introduce you to her soon enough when I confess my love for her.” He looked at her eyes with twinkles in his eyes.
Gabby shook her head “You don’t have to. I’m happy you finally found her.” She ate her cake.
“Right.” Tommy grinned from ear to ear. Deep down Gabby’s heart was bleeding, was this what it feels when the person you love tells you about their love.
Gabby met with Blake at his house, Blake left everything he was doing and sat with her after offering her a red fine wine.
“Blake I’m losing it,” Gabby told him after a long silence, he was the only one she tells the sort of things to.
“What’s wrong?” Blake asked softly.
Gabby told him everything, how Tommy found his first love and was now working in the same company as her and how he said it was a good chance to confess his feelings to her.
Gabby signed sharply as her voice were hoarse. “I’m not happy Blake, I should be happy but I’m not.” She looked at him. “Is it wrong? I’m I turning into a monster? I wish he had never seen her again.” She sobs.
Blake embraces her, Gabby was like a kid sister to him and all the friends of Carlos. “You’re not a monster Gabby.” He whispers In her ears and refrains. “I also have a time when I felt bad that my first love had another man. It hurts, but we are not monsters, that’s just the feeling.”
“I never know I would end up being a loser in love like I never lose in anything. Why love?” She cries as she looked at Blake.
Blake smiled. “Most of us are losers in love, take for instance. Carlos loses Kelsey the love of his life and married Triffany who he doesn’t love. Then, Eric, he has been in a countless relationship that didn’t work out.”
Gabby laughs amid tears. “He became a playboy.” She added and Blake chuckled. “I know about Garratt’s.” Gabby sniffles. “He swore never to love again ever since the girl he loved left him.”
Blake looked at her. “You see, we are all losers in love.”
Gabby leans chin on her hands and stared at Blake for a while. “Should I just date you?”
Blake moved away from her like she was the flu. “Wrong number.” He raised his hands as Gabby chuckles.
“I’m I that bad?” She asked him.
“You’re worst and I have a girlfriend and Carlos will skin me alive if I try to date you.” Blake sipped his wine.
“Crazy dude.” Gabby laughs and sip her wine.
“When will you stop calling me a dude? Other girls call me by my name, why are you so different?”
“That helps me a lot.” She told him honestly.
“How?” He looked at her curiously.
“If I don’t call you guys that, I might end up in a relationship with all my brother's friends. You guys are so hot.” She confessed.
Blake blushed “But you called me ugly recently.”
Gabby rolled her eyes. “Yes. You’re all so ugly, but hot.” She smiled.
Blake shook his head with smiles on his lips. “Naughty girl.” He refilled their glass as they continued chatting but no longer in tears or saddened.
Carlos came into the room and saw Triffany asleep on the couch with her laptop opened on the desk. “I guess she’s tired.” He looked through what she had done so far and saw that she had also made corrections on her errors.
He squats close to her and smiled. He looked at her flawless face and brushed her hair backwards in an affectionate way. “She’s just so…” He was about to say something when Triffany opened her eyes.
“Just so what?” She looked at him, Carlos who was not expecting her to wake up jerk back and mistakenly hits down a little glass ball that hits her hands close to her wrist. "Ouch!" Triffany held her wrist and cries out in pain.
"Are you okay?" Carlos held her hands. I'm sorry."
"My wrist hurts." She sat down and whined.
"Don't be such a cry baby." Carlos looked at her but he saw how serious she was and she was also crying. "Is it broken?"
"I don't know." She yells in pain.
"Let's go to the hospital."
The doctor attended to them immediately and handed her wrist after treating it and running some X-ray. They discovered it was just a minor accident, not a fractured wrist or broken wrist, lucky for her.
"How long will it take to heal?" Triffany asked the doctor.
"Three days."
"That's so long, will I be able to type with it?" She asked panicked.
"You should give the hand a week break." He looked at her. "You shouldn't do any strenuous thing with your hand else the recovery process will take longer."
"Thank you, doctor," Carlos said and the doctor left. He turned to Triffany. "Why ask so many questions?"
Triffany rubs her forehead with the other hand. "I have a book to edit and I've got only a week to submit it and now this." She lo6at him with tears in her eyes. "Why do you always like hurting me?"
Carlos looked at her in shock as the words hit him. "Don't say it like I've hurt you many times."
"Yes, you have." She sniffles. "I had a cut on my hand because you made me pick up a light bulb you broke. I had sore feet because you left me on the highway to walk back home and now this."
The tears in her eyes rolled down her cheek. "Are you a danger zone?"
Carlos exhaled sharply. "You're always getting in the way that's why."
Triffany wipes away her tears, there was no point talking to him. "Talking to you most times also hurts." She got up. "Take me home. I would have been peaceful sleeping if you haven't come to disturb me."
She picked up her bag and walked through the lobby and into the elevator as they head down to Carlos car and drove back home without any other words.
