DAMIEN

I burst through the dungeon door, my vampire speed and strength shoving me forward. Winston, in his wolf form, followed closely, his sharp claws glowing in the dim light.

As we entered the damp corridor, guards sprang from the shadows, swords drawn. I snarled, fangs bared, and launched myself at the nearest attacker. My strength sent the guard flying into the stone wall.

Winston, meanwhile, released his fierceness. He tore through the guards, claws ripping armor and flesh. He pounced, pinning a guard to the ground.

As we cleared all the men in the corridor, we approached the cells in the dungeon. Freda's mother's voice echoed through the bars, "Winston!"

"Patricia" The Alpha called back, rushing to meet her. While he found a way to release her, I looked around for Freda, she was nowhere to be found in the dungeon.

"He took her," her mother's pale voice said when she caught me searching. "You're Damien." She said and I nodded.

"Where did he take her?"

"Somewhere..more private…or where her voice can't be heard if he killed her" All I heard was pain from her mother.

We sped out of the dungeon, Winston handing over Patricia to some of his trusted guards, as we went back in to look for Freda.

Just as we reached the dark cellar, a figure stood in the shadows. It was Williams and then I got a sight of Freda in front of him. I proceeded to burst into the cellar but Winstons stopped me, signaling me to wait a little.

Quietly and strategically, our men surrounded the whole building, taking down Williams's men, one by one.

"I still see no reason why I am your target, Uncle Williams. What would killing me do to you?" Freda asked, her voice more confident than I expected.

"Ilk tell you." My uncle walked around her. "You're Damien's last hope to the throne. With you still alive, he would be after the crown of Valthur if you can be queen and he can be king. I cannot let that happen" he dragged Freda by the hair and she screamed. I folded my fist, ready to unleash my anger if he hurt Freda once more.

William continued. "The Crown of Valthur is mine and I have wiped off everyone on my way to becoming king. With you out of the way also, Damien would be useless."

He was right. If my mate Freda died, I had no interest in anything like the throne, I would leave the kingdom, become a mess, and lose my purpose. She was all that mattered.

"Damien is destined to be king and nothing you do could stop it."

"Oh, don't pretend like you love Damien now. Didn't you plan to escape from him because you feared him and didn't trust that he would give you your freedom?"

My heart sank. That couldn't be true. Freda left because…of me? She didn't feel free with me? All those moments we shared, were for what?

"I only made things easier for you by asking Verestina to kidnap you. You were already on your way to the human world with your best friend and with the support of your father."

I turned over to Winston, my eyes burning red. He knew about it. Yet he pretended like he didn't, he threatened that I find his daughter meanwhile all he had wanted was for her to stay away from me as far as possible.

I looked over to Freda who could not defend herself in front of William. How could she hurt me like that? Leaving on the coronation day. All I wanted was to be with her and she didn't want the same with me.

"As Damien's uncle, there are a lot of things to be ashamed of. You pretended that it was just him you cared about, but now…it was only the throne."

"Because I deserved it!" He yelled. "Since I was little, I deserved the throne. Draken took it from me and now he wants to pass it to his generation."

"If you're this hungry for power, you cannot rule William"

"Shut up, you scunt!" He hit her face and I felt myself levitate from the ground with Winston pushing me back angrily and telling me it was not time.

I scowled at Freda's father.

How could he watch his daughter get hurt so much without doing something about it? I wouldn't let William hurt Freda again.

"I am Damien's nightmare and I am yours too. I can have whatever I want, including your father's wife."

Winston this time was the one that sprouted out his claws and squinted his eyes. What did William mean by having his wife? Has William done something to Freda's mother while we were away?

"Amelia was sweet in bed. She found attest to her little vacation with me at the palace under Winston's nose."

Freda growled something that felt wolf-like. Winston did the same and I covered his mouth so he wouldn't blow our cover. William had been sleeping with his wife, it wasn't a revelation to be toyed about. Now he knew how I felt about Freda too.

"No one is coming to save you, Freda. Ah, Damien. How predictable. He'd risk everything for his precious mate. But if he ended up finding this location, just be perfect. He's going to go down with you and this story is gonna end."

Freda's face fell. "Aw." William clicked his tongue in pity. "You do not think your mayevwoukd cone to save you right? After what you did. Why should he protect someone who despises him so much, who doesn't want to be in the same castle as his."

My eyes blazed as I walked away from the entrance where was listening to their conversation. I could not hold the pain and my chest hurt. Back outside I saw my guards disarmed William's guards and sent them crashing. Winston's pack instincts kicked in, and they attacked too, taking down guards with their skills.

My guard caught sight of me and nodded that all of Williams' men had been cleared. With this information, William would be easy to take down.

My face twisted in rage. "You'll never leave this place alive William"

Going back to join Winston, he signaled that it was showtime!
