CONVOCATION

Freda's Pov

Pamela, in her cap and gown, arranged us with an unusually warm smile. "Okay, guys, let's get this photo shoot started!"

She gently directed us in position, adjusting our poses and angles with a skillful eye. "Rachel, can you move a little to the left? And, Seth, can you put your arm around Freda? You'll be putting it around me also."

She walked over back to us, and after wetting the camera on the timer, she made sure everyone felt included and comfortable and we laughed and joked about her kindness despite her popularity, Pamela was surprisingly down-to-earth only on convocation day. She made sure to get photos with everyone, even insisting on taking a few silly shots with the school's mascot.

"You're the best, Pam!" Rachel screamed when the photo session ended.

"I'm just glad we could all share this special moment."

While we walked back to where the event was taking place, I stood in the crowded hallway, I stopped to hug Pamela tightly.

I was going to miss all of them, they had made college fun for me and I was glad that we were strong till the end.

"I'm going to miss you guys so much," I said, my voice trembling slightly as I was about to be extra emotional.

Pamela smiled. "We'll miss you too, Freda. But we'll stay in touch, okay?. Even if your husband likes it or not."

During my stay, Pamela had met Damien twice, they often fought because she insisted he took all my attention and would not let her have me all to herself.

As I turned to hug Seth, I caught his eye and smiled. Seth was the only one who knew my secret, the only one who knew that I was half-human and my husband was a vampire. I was extremely glad that he could keep this secret till the end. He became friends with Damien also, but still, Damien fought with him for no reason and if I asked him why he would say, he didn't want him to be too comfortable.

Seth hugged me tightly, "Take care of yourself, Freda," he whispered. "And don't forget to stay in touch."

Now that was the hard part, I didn't know if staying in touch was going to happen. I didn't know what being a queen would feel like till I experienced it.

I was also going to transform, what if I become a vampire and my friends notice? What if I change? What if I do not remain the same after the mating ritual? What if I cannot come into the sun like I used to and have summer vacations? They would notice one way or the other.

"Can you both stop hugging now?" Pamela said, her face twisting into a frown. "That was too long for no fucking reason."

"I'm sorry. " I immediately apologized. I zoned out.

"You don't have to be sorry, Freda" Seth said. "I do not think Pam has the right to tell you how long to hug me."

Quick review about Pam and Seth. It took them the end of the second year before they could get their shit together. Seth asked Pam out. He was so in love it was uncontrollable. I was happy for him and how he loved Pam, since they started as rivals it was lovely to see them blend into each other and soften.

But they broke up…more like one of them cheated. So I heard. Didn't know how it was because Seth and Pamela wouldn't talk about their reason for breaking up, Seth wouldn't even tell me. But I knew he was still obsessed with Pamela and would get jealous if she had so many advances.

Pamela on the other hand was the same, equally obsessed with him. But they didn't get back together and it hurt to see that they couldn't fix it before convocation.

"You two can stop now. It's convocation, maybe you should get back together?" I suggested but they were both silent, glancing at each other and taking their eyes off immediately.

"Well, look who is here?" Pamela glanced behind me. I turned around immediately to see Damien coming. He held a bouquet and many other gifts with Christie behind him and…

"Kara!" I screamed as I ran to hug her, first before Damien. She carried me up and spun me around. I became emotional instantly, tears dropping from my eyes.

Kara didn't visit me as frequently as I wanted. It was just three times during all my college days, which was the most painful thing that happened to me.

Most of it had to do with her mate, but Kara wouldn't say anything about it to me either. Whenever she visited, he looked happy, all the same, I would ask my mother about her and she would tell me Kara was happy also.

Then why didn't she visit me as frequently? I didn't want any slack in our friendship.

"Hey, it's okay" She wiped my tears but only ended up crying with me too. "You did this Freda, you achieved your dream" she whispered-cry.

"I missed you…" I sobbed. "I missed you so much, Kara"

"Me too" she hugged me tightly.

After a round of emotions, Damien cleared his throat, bringing us out of our feelings. He started at my swollen eyes with love and pointed the flowers at me. "They remind me of you, delicate and soft but with a bloom. Whoever you are with Freda, either Kara, Christie, or me… your love for them continues to bloom in the most beautiful ways." I took the flowers from Damien, kissing him softly on the lips.

Christie pointed to the gifts she had with her also. "Happy coronation, my Queen" she smiled.

I chuckled. "Thank you, Christie." She was one of the most supportive people I was very lucky to have and I couldn't just stop my emotions seeing everyone that mattered around me, cheering me up for a new life ahead.

My challenges were overcome. That was all that mattered.
