MY MATE IS GONE
Damien POV
After Freda’s father shouted at Freda to run, I and Kieran tried to chase him but he vanished. After moving around the castle with Kieran and some Servants we still didn’t find him.
I stood in front of the prison yard looking at the cage for answers but didn’t find any, after some minutes it hit me. I have to find Freda. Using my super speed I went round the castle but didn’t find her until I went to her room.
" Freda," I said gently,
She murmured, "Damien, Look it’s hard………”
“Planning to leave?” I asked as I drew nearer, my eyes falling on the little bundle of clothing she was clutching, and the clothes she was wearing. "Do you believe I won’t figure it out?"
"I am running out of time, Damien. Time to consider and work out what I want. Too much is happening in this Kingdom for me to handle, I'm not set out to be your queen.”
Her words squeezed my chest since they each cut deep and left me naked and vulnerable. "I know Freda, this is overwhelming. Running away will not, however, fix anything. You should be here, right with me. You are my mate."
Tears shining in her eyes, she shook her head. “Maybe I'm not ready for that. Perhaps I do not want this life."
I closed the distance between us and grabbed her hands in mine in two long steps, “Freda, I understand you are terrified. You are not alone. However, I am with you. I can guard you against all the dangers in my world.”
She shook her head as tears started to fill her eyes. “It goes beyond being safe, Damien.” she said before taking a deep breath before I could say something she continued again "It's about being free, I can't change my life for you, you don't even respect my words or try to understand me, it can not work out with me as your queen. If I become your queen, I'm afraid I'll be locked in this castle until my death."
She drew away as I moved forward, and I touched her cheeks with my fingers as I spoke “Please Freda. Don’t do this.” The words I had begun to hate fell from her mouth and my heart broke into pieces “I'm sorry, Damien. But I have to leave."
She turned and left the room before I could say anything else.
Freda left. My queen, my mate, is gone.
As much as Freda always talked about leaving, I never imagined this day would come. The loneliness I've been feeling since my mom left came back again. Right from the moment I saw Freda I knew she was mine, I felt it, the connection and I know she felt it too.
Not all vampires were privileged to have their mate but I was and I know she is special, I had to fight for us but now she’s gone. I can’t let that happen, never, she's mine.
" Fredra," I called as I stood at the top of the stairs. I wondered how she found the way out of the kingdom in the palace but that wasn’t an issue now I had to get my mate.
“You cannot run from me, Freda,” I said as I started walking down the stairs. “Damien, please,” she said, as she took a step down also. “Allow me to leave. I have to go.”
“This is not something I can accomplish alone or with another person. Freda, you don't understand I can't have another queen who's not you. Things will fall apart if you go. The kingdom.”
“You are, You are stronger than you are aware of. But once you leave, if you pass that section, there is no returning. I may not be able to fight for you or get you back, you're my weakness and my enemies will do anything to destroy me.”
Freda replied with a shaking voice, “I have to try.”
Then, in one quick action, I stretched out and grabbed her arm, dragging her near. And before she could respond, I planted my lips on her lips. Freda is my life, I can't let her go. With just one kiss for a moment I forgot what was happening and all I knew was that I wanted only her, only Freda.
“Freda, you are part of me. And I will do all necessary to have you by my side.” Before I could continue Freda kicked me between my legs and I dropped to the ground before she ran.
I quickly recovered from the pain but before I could chase her Uncle Kieran held me back before he spoke. “You’ll have her back, just let her go.”
