Williams
Freda POV.
I stood up gently from my seat with a decision that I was going to make a choice that would set the course of the rest of my life or at least a life with Damien. It was a very tangible decision I had to make now because I was sincerely tired of the ups and downs and the beefs and the striving and everything. It was a now or never situation.
The sun was burning red hot. It was so hot outside the sky was as bright as a bulb and it felt like I could breathe the heat right into my nostrils. It was not a perfect day for me emotionally. There was no point of running from Damien anymore or planning an escape. I was simply going to accept and acknowledge Damien as the mate and do my best to be his queen.
I would be honest, kind, polite and sincere. I thought hard to myself to try to figure out ways I could completely win the clans heart as their queen.
Lost in my thoughts I heard my window pane move. I looked at the window and it was the my worst nightmare, uncle William’s. Why on earth would he be knocking on my window this hot afternoon. Has he finally come to murder me so I can’t be queen I muttered to myself and raised my head to gesture to him that the doors were open.
Uncle William came in, his commanding presence and harsh look somewhat different from the hot outdoor temperature. Holding a smile at the margins of his lips, he closed the door behind him. “Freda,” he said, his voice deliberate and silky. “It’s rather the scorcher today, isn’t it?” I faked a grin to cover my discomfort. Indeed, it is Uncle William, what drove you here? William’s eyes sparkled with something that unsettled me. He approached, his eyes lingering perhaps too long. “I came to observe your handling of the most recent occurrences. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to strike the balance between your obligations and emotions. I nodded, attempting to remain objective in tone. “It has been challenging, but I am coping. I am working on it with Damien. William’s smile grew, but it did little to reduce my nervousness. He moved forward, his voice lowering to a more personal level.
“I have always found your fortitude, Freda, admirable. Being in your position is not easy, particularly considering the demands you deal with.”
His closeness made me uncomfortable. Even with the scorching temperatures of the day, I could feel his body radiating. Trying to establish some distance, I slightly retreated.
“Thank you, but I’m good. I am, especially helping Damien and making sure we are ready for whatever is ahead.” William moved forward another step and his eyes appeared to deepen. “You really are extremely amazing, Freda. I have seen how elegantly you have managed things. Only a few would be able to accomplish that. I moved uneasily, dread rising inside me. “I really have to concentrate on my responsibilities; I appreciate your worry. Right now, Damien needs my complete support. William’s stare stayed fixed, his voice softening much further. “I know. Still, occasionally support shows itself in unusual places. Freda, you really are a lovely woman. I doubt if Damien really values what you do. My heart sped as I tried to keep my cool. “Damien gives his duties top priority over all else. Both of us have much on our plates. William’s smile seemed almost predatory.
“Of course, but you are more than just a queen or a supporter. You are a woman with individual needs and wants. Maybe certain things would be clearer in private.” I could hardly breathe in this stuffy chamber.
“Uncle William, I have to beg you to honor my privacy. I live for Damien and our future. I have to give that top attention.” William kept his smile although his eyes darkened significantly. Freda, rather nicely. I was just expected to provide … a helping hand and voice. You know where to find me should you ever want me in any way. I could hardly hide my relief when he turned to go. His words were suspicious in my ears, he was definitely up to something.
