SHE WILL STAY, SHE COMMANDS IT

Damien's Pov

After a long meeting, it was concluded that new nobles would be assigned, positions would be changed and some would step down. There had been a lot of arguments and opposition during the meeting. I knew it was all coming from a place of fear and uncertainty. They were all waiting for my decision on the new appointment.
No one wanted to go as much as some of them didn't like my new reign. The benefits of being a noble were too much to leave behind.

As I walked toward the study room to make my list, I heard some noise in the hallway. I paused at the familiar voice, thinking I heard wrong.

"It's quite heavy" I heard Freda and Christie's chorus as they both laughed. They were struggling with a big bag of load.

Was Freda back here? She had just left hours ago. Why was she here again? I wiped my face to ensure I wasn't seeing things, but she was right there, with Christie.

What was she doing back here? Was that Christie's load or hers? It couldn't be hers after our break up and she looked happier than when she left.

Was all that just fake emotions? Has she come to drop Christie off and is happy to go back to the human world? Was she very happy with the breakup? My heart sank at thoughts like that.

Freda indeed wanted her freedom and I was just a barrier standing in her way. I dashed into the study room, my veins popping on my skin. I couldn't even focus on what I was here for any longer.

Was this it? She would go back to the human world where I could hardly see her in daylight and she would have the best time of her life while I wallow in sadness for her sake. That was not a nice thing to do, Freda and I got even angrier that she didn't regret our break up.

'Just forget it Damien' I thought. I had seen her true colors now and there was no need to keep hurting for her when she never wanted me.

I stayed in the study room for hours, finally sorting out the noble's appointment. Something that found only took me forty-five minutes, but I used about three hours because my mate couldn't stop popping in my head.

It was now too dark and I headed to the chamber to get some rest. Not that I was going to sleep, not laying my back on the bed was better than the chair at the study.

Walking into the room, the first sight of Freda held my tongue. She was sitting on the couch, reading her favorite novel that she had left behind. She was smiling and I was wondering if it was the novel that interested her or if she enjoyed the shock on my face.

"So late. When did you cultivate such a habit of coming this late to bed" she said walking towards me to pull off my coat. I shouldn't have let her touch me, but I couldn't stop her either.

She hung the coat in the wardrobe and walked back to me. "Throne matters wouldn't end, but an inactive King would exhaust the citizen, so you need to get as much rest as you need" She closed the door behind me.

I tried to gather all my thoughts in one place. "You're here," I said instead of 'What are you doing here'.

"Thank you for keeping all my books" she squealed. "I couldn't find these exact ones when I left."

"Freda, stop." I snarled, cutting off all her sudden happiness. "Why are you here?"

"Because this is my palace as it is yours, Damien." She responded.

"I sent you out of it already. We are over!" I reminded her.

"Oh, are we?" She chuckled. "I can still see some of my properties here Damien"

"They were going to be thrown out tomorrow."

"Mmm. Too late. That isn't happening anymore" She hissed her teeth.

"What do you mean?"

"What do you think I mean?" A smirk crossed her lips.

"Leave, Freda!"

"No."

"Freda…"

"Damien…"

"We have nothing to do with each other again. You can't add to my pain by being here to make a mockery of me."

"I am your mate, Damien, and I would stay as long as you haven't rejected me."

"Then I reject you, Freda."

"And I accept you, Damien" she sparked back. A burning tension between us. " I haven't done that before have I?" Her eyes shot at me
"I accept you as my mate, King Damien and there's no way you can reject me if I had never accepted you before."

"I could just reject you now…"

"I dare you."

"Freda…"

"Do it, Damien. Reject me now that I have accepted you with all my heart. Do it!"

My heart raced as her burning gaze swept me. She was serious, she was very serious. I couldn't argue. Damn, I couldn't even say I word. I walked out of the room not able to bear that tension. Freda accepted me…she did accept me as her mate.

She had never done that before. He had never fully accepted that I was her mate. She always found an excuse to argue that her moon goddess made a mistake.

But now?

The demon in me glided with joy, but the situation didn't allow me to express it. She wanted to stay in the castle even without my approval.

What fascinated me the most? Her confidence or her reluctance. A little part of me enjoyed this sbd the other parts still had doubts. Was Freda's love true? Would she wake up one morning and say that she wanted to leave again because she didn't feel free with me?

I was worried. Was this a new change for the better or I was going to see hell with this new Freda?
