OPEN WIDE

Damien's POV

“Huh?” She looked up and asked.

“I said you're getting too friendly with the maid.” I repeated my statement.

“But is that a bad thing?” She asked.

“If it puts your life in danger then yes it is.” I replied.

“But..Christie isn't like that, she's kind and caring, heck she couldn't even look at my face when she came in yesterday.” Freda stood up for the maid which made me furrow my brows. She had grown attached to her, I wasn't expecting this at all.

I pursed my lips and avoided her gaze. Vampire lore told of tales where maids where used to kill important people. We vampires were fairly immune to poison and our weakness was not easily found but Freda? I'm sure she was already a target for a lot of people refusing this union and I didn't want to take any chances with my mate.

“Damien, she's just like me.” Her next words shocked me to my core as I stared at her with wide eyes.

“What do you mean?” I questioned.

“She's a Dhampir. Half human, half vampire. I'm surprised you hadn't noticed.”

Of course I noticed. I thought it was strange that she didn't have the natural appreance of vampire. Pale skin, red eyes, fangs and all that. I ignored my observations and went with my instincts to make her Freda’s maid. Who knew they had similar origins.

“So…she's the same as you.” I asked again.

“Yes.” Freda nodded and folded her hands on her chest, a stubborn expression on her face. “And since you've locked me up in this castle against my will, then I'd appreciate it if you don't take her from me. She might be the only friend I'd possibly ever make in this place.”

She brought his palms together and pleaded with me, staring at me with huge puppy eyes.

I couldn't resist when she stared at me like that. I figured since I was keeping her here, I might as well cut her some slack.

“Fine, fine.” I agreed. “She can stay.”

“Yeahhh! Thank you.” Her face lit up in happiness and she pounced on me, giving me a tight bear hug.

I didn't expect such a reaction from her. She hadn't been on board with physical contact and I was willing to give her time to adjust but this? This was the first time our bodies had met in such an intimate fashion. If this was what it would take to get me closer to her, then I was up for it.

I caressed her back and took a whiff of her scent. We stayed like that for a few minutes until her tummy growled even louder this time. She squirmed in my arms and broke free, looking away in embarrassment.

“Let me fetch you something to eat.” I quickly changed the topic to avoid any sort of awkwardness.

She was about to protest but I was already in motion. Standing in front of the trolley, I selected a croissant and a steaming cup of tea, returning to the bed side.

“I added cream and sugar.” I added, placing the plate and cup on the bedside table.

“I like my tea this way, how did you know?” She asked, her eyes widened in surprise.

*I don't, I just thought you'd like it this way.” I shrugged and sat next to her. Picking up the crossiant, I broke it in half and held a piece out to her.
“Open wide,” I said with a grin.

*I have hands you know?”

“I know, but I insist.”
