Disagreement

Freda’s POV

“That was…” I trailed off, unsure how to describe the emotions swirling within me.
“Romantic perhaps?” He chuckled in a way that sent tremors through my body. I was starting to get way into this man and it wasn’t healthy at all.
“Maybe a little,” I admitted, staring at the floor and playing with my fingers.
He grinned, the kind that seemed to warm an entire room which was weird because to his subjects, Damien was probably the coldest person they would ever come across. Don’t get me started on his bloodthirsty nature. The man was a walking killing machine, yet somehow he would adopt a completely different personality when he was around me. It made me feel special.
“I’m glad. Well. I have some news.” He said, his expression changing into a serious one.
The mention of news brought me back to reality and I blinked. “News?”
“Yeah, I spoke to Elara yesterday night.” He confirmed with a nod.
“Who’s Elara?” I cocked my head to the side in confusion.
“Forgetful much?” He flicked my forehead.
“Hey, it’s not my fault.” I pouted my lips and rubbed my forehead.
“It’s the witch I told you about. Your new tutor.” He said, his gaze became lost as if he was deep in thought.
“Great.” I rolled my eye. “You made a woman who could probably turn me into a toad with a flick of her wrist my tutor. Very smart Damien.”
“It was either that, or I made a vampire your tutor. I can’t take that option. Too dangerous.” He shrugged. “I love you too much to put you in harm’s way.”
The sarcastic response I had prepared hung in my throat when I heard his last statement. Love? How could he say something so casually to someone he barely knew? Sure I felt the pull of the mate bond but love was a strong word if I wanted to describe how I really felt about this man.
“She will teach you everything you need to know. About your abilities, about vampire culture and about ruling a kingdom.” He continued as he arranged the plates on the food trolley.
“You are still going on about this” I clenched my jaw in anger. “Ruling a kingdom? Damien, I have no interest in being a queen. Why are you so stubborn?”
“I’m stubborn because you are meant to be by my side Freda.” He stiffened and said firmly.
“But I’m not a vampire. Your people? They won’t accept me.” I tried to make him see reason but he raised a hand to silence me.
“It’s alright. They will, I’ll make them.” Damien turned around and faced me, his eyes taking a darker shade and I began to see a glimpse of the savage Damien that killed his brother and defeated his father.
“Your lessons will begin this afternoon.” Damien’s stated in a tone of finality.
I wanted to retort but I thought better of it and kept my lips sealed. I folded my arms and marched to the bed seething with rage.
Damien’s face softened and he sighed, making his way to me and kneeling down.
“I’m sorry I made you angry Freda.” He apologized. “But I need you to understand. I can’t part from you. I need you with me, I’ve been waiting for you for years. Now that I’ve found you, I want to take care of you and love you with all my heart.”
“It’s about what you want and not about what I want, eh?” I said in my mind but I refused to talk, avoiding his gaze and staring out of the window.
