FAREWELL AND JUSTICE
Damien's Pov
The people gathering at the castle increased in number minute by minute. Some of the distant guests pay respect to their fallen ruler. The kingdom's flags stood high on the pole, waving in sync with the breeze.
Nobles, knights, and commoners had gathered to bid farewell to their beloved… rather, beast King Draken and his son, Prince Steve.
Everyone knew the truth about Steve's death and they knew that William had also killed Draken. But no one dared to rumor it on the castle premises.
The royal caskets, decorated with golden ornament and the kingdom's crest, rested on top of the carriages.
The Nobles wore mourning attire, but I didn't. I wasn't mourning Steve or Draken. They would do the same to me if they were alive. This would have been my burial if I hadn't taken a step on that day. By the time Steve would have drank all of the wolf's blood to regain more power, he would be unstoppable and even if we were twins, he would never allow that there be two of us.
Lady Daphne steps forward. Her voice was calm as she spoke.
"Our dear king and his lovely son... Your legacy will live on in our hearts and the kingdom you built."
Marques Theo began the eulogy, listing the King's accomplishments and promises. The ceremony continued, and the kingdom's society paid their respects.
I could be help but notice the look on the faces of people who loved my father. Their scornful look at me did not harm me. I was going to make all the perpetrators of evil like my father go down the law.
The final rites were done. The coffins were lowered into their eternal rest.
I dashed into the castle back instructing everyone to change the setting of the events. I had planned to have both events today and now that the burial was done, it was time to go into justice.
"Bring Lord Balen and William out of the dungeon" I ordered and Duke Magnus responded with a bow, taking some guards with him. He had no choice but to bow to me now or he was going to die the same way they will.
In no time, the atmosphere had changed. Although more intense, people were looking forward to the death of William after all he did when he was on the throne. So there was a celebration, with vampires drinking wine to their fill.
There was even a special moment of dance from some group before the verdict.
After they were brought out, Lord Balen and Uncle William were dragged in chains to the middle of the district.
Lady Elara rolled out a scroll. I nodded giving Lady Elara the privilege to do this in my stead. She had been my loyal member and will rule alongside me in the Vampire kingdom.
"Lord Balen, Lord William, your deceit has been proven. You conspired against our kingdom, taking the throne by force and eliminating the acting king without orders from the royal court"
"You kidnapped the queen-to-be and her mother hurting them severely to ensure your stand on the throne"
She continued. "Your betrayal will not go unpunished."
After Elara was done, in the blink of an eye, I drew my sword, slicing off Lord Balen's head. His body crumpled and his head rolled toward William.
Williams's eyes shot up. "Damien, have mercy!"
"Damien!" He growled as he struggled with his chain.
"I am your father's brother!" He yelled at me and then turned to my people. "You want a man who killed all of his family to rule you?"
There was no time to think about the nice moments Williams and I have had since the days of the blood club. The more I reminisced about our past the more emotions would slip in.
The sword sliced again, ending Uncle William's life.
"Justice is served," I declared and the crowd responded with cheers with only a slight grumble heard. "Let this serve as a warning to anyone hungry for the throne for the wrong cause."
"I, King Damien on my reign, will not let such happen in Valthrun!"
___________
After taking a long shower washing off the hurt, betrayal, and blood of everything I had come across these past few months. I put on my dark robe and tied it to my waist, leaving the room Freda and I shared.
My missions were fulfilled. The Kyraxx war was won, King Draken and Prince Steve died, and Lord Balen, Verestina, and William, too. Sometimes I wondered if these were reasons why Freda feared me.
I sat on the dining table, alone in the dark dining room, the night breeze bursting in from the windows. Dinner had been served and I could only look at it.
There was a time when my hands rubbed Freda's lap under the table, times were Uncle William sat in this place with me for a proper conversation. The times were the dining table was noisy and even when I hated the wolf's chatter, they entertained me and I missed it.
All the pieces Freda had introduced into my life were leaving. How do I reign without her? In no time the citizen would request my coronation, with or without a queen.
I would be a lost cause, ruling without love. Freda completed me and she needs to understand.
"Still not eating?" Elara walked in, switching on the lights. I blocked the rays from my eyes and brought the cloak of my robe closer to my face. "Or do you enjoy eating so much in the dark now?"
"I lost my appetite," I said pushing the food till it reached the long end of the dining table but it didn't fall.
"She's gonna come see you," Clara said and my chest tightened.
"When? Tomorrow?"
"Maybe…" she chuckled.
"Don't play with my feelings, Elara" I stood up from my seat.
"Do you do wanna see her?" She laughed
"Yes. And tell her this is over. I free her." I muttered.
