MARRIAGE THORN
Freda's Pov
A grand celebration. At my welcome party, Damien overdid himself. I felt at home, full of? Life. This was the beginning of my reign as a queen. Everyone seemed to love me. There was a party, lots of food.
As I walked into the castle, Lady Elara was the first person to pull me into a hug. "In all honesty, I have missed you Freda" I chuckled as I hugged her tightly too.
"Same here, Elara"
"All hail Queen Freda" Marques Theo bowed and I gently nodded following it with a smile.
"I'm so glad to be back," I said as Famirn approached me, kissing me on the forehead also.
"We've all missed you, I especially" he winked and I blushed.
"I'm afraid you would have to leave Freda all to me, I have a lot to catch up with her," Lady Elara said, dragging me with her and I also dragged Kara with me as she also dragged Christie.
I met Damien's gaze, promising him I was going to be back for him, after all, he owned me now and there was no escaping anymore.
"Elara, thank you for the spells you gave Damien whenever he needed to see me," I said as we entered my chamber.
I looked around, it felt the same and I had missed the familiar scent of Damien and me. Scent of sex to be precise.
"Damien is such a baby. He would kneel to beg me for spells if he wanted to see you on a hot afternoon. I always tell him to just leave at night but he was always restless."
"That's a green flag," Christie said, and I laughed hard. She heard words like this from Pamela and using it in this context just made me roll.
"Soon, your mating ritual will be done and you'll be ours forever," Lady Elara said again.
"Oh, the mating ritual. Christie told me enough about it."
"Well, Christie is doing a great job, because it is high time you knew. She deserves a promotion"
Christie smiled when Lady Elara said that.
"Well, Elara you ruined the surprise. That was the first thing on my mind when I got here."
Christie hugged me from behind. "Oh, I love you, Queen Freda"
As we all caught up with each other, telling stories and memories, we were full of laughter, except Kara who only smiled curtly at the few things we said.
I signaled to Elara and Christie to give me a private moment with my best friend and they left one by one.
"Yes, I know you have a lot to ask," she said when Christie left.
I moved toward her, holding her palm softly. "Is this because I left for so long?" I asked.
"Well, that was part of it, but it's not your fault Freda. Sometimes, I just needed someone to cry to." Her eyes watered.
"Cry? What's wrong Kara? No one will tell me anything about you. Are you okay?"
"No…" Kara sniffed a tear. "I'm not, Freda" She hugged me and burst into tears. My heart ached. I didn't like to see my best friend cry.
"What's this about?" I asked softly.
"Tyler…" she whispered.
I could remember how happy she was that she found her mate, Elder Herbert's son, Tyler. I was excited also, Tyler was a good guy, and coming back from such a prestigious place was a good image.
But how dare he make Kara cry?
"Did he reject you?" I asked.
"I wish he did" she sobbed. "I love him, Freda. My heart races when he's near. But…he's madly in love with someone else."
My heart skipped. In love with someone else, that was the most heartbreaking thing that could happen. My eyes watered, and empathy covered me.
"How about your mate bond?" I asked. "Isn't there any attraction between you two?."
"Sexual attraction…yes. Enough to have three kids. Love, no, he hardly came home."
I froze. "Three? What do you mean by three kids? Kara…"
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you. We haven't seen in two years, it's been crazy. "
"Kara, what happened."
"Tyler is royalty remember? Having heirs at the early time of the marriage is a custom. Moreover, he said I was irresistible."
My chest tightened. I didn't like how Kara's marriage was going. It was understandable that Tyler must have been with someone else before he came back home and found out Kara was his mate, but the name bond was supposed to be stronger than his former love.
It was a known fact that wolves that date before finding their mate should break up when the 'one' was found, but Tyler…the audacity to leave Kara yearning for him while he went out with another woman.
"Sex is good. The only time I see Tyler in his true happy form. If it wasn't sex days, all we did was fight. Elder Herbert fought with him too, his whole family is by my side, but it doesn't compare with having Tyler all to myself, loving me just the way I imagined my mate would."
I hugged Kara again. I hated that I wasn't there to share her pain every day, hated that she cried in secret.
"Three kids was bliss. Pregnant days, he was always there. I think it had something to do with our may bond. 4 months of pregnancy and Tyler cared for me to the moon and back. I loved it and decided to have more babies." She wiped her tears. "If getting pregnant and having babies would get him close to me, I'll keep doing it."
"Kara no…don't do that. You're still very young."
"What do you want me to do, Freda. When will Tyler come back to his senses?"
I was going to say soon. But I didn't know if that would be hope or mockery. I knew nothing about Kara's life now. I needed more time with her for description before I could find her a solution.
Come to think of it, I wasn't even experienced enough to provide Kara with the right advise she needed.
