SILENT BREAKFAST

Freda's POV

When I woke up in the middle of the night and found myself on the bed. I smiled to myself, falling asleep on the chair was the perfect thing to do because there was no way I could have gotten to the bed if he hadn't carried me. Although he was nowhere to be found I saw it as a first step to achieving my plans, it won't be long.

This morning I quickly took my bath and came downstairs for breakfast. I intentionally wanted to come here before him so I could take my time to enjoy the look on his face when he saw me enjoying myself.

Waiting for him felt like days, was he trying to avoid me? If he didn't show up to breakfast I was ready to make my way up to search for him, even if it meant taking food there myself.

I heard his footsteps, heavy boots on the ground and each step made each thumping of my heart louder. I wanted to turn and look at him so bad but I couldn't. I sat there arranging and rearranging the table cloth on my legs, his footsteps halted and I knew then he had seen me, I couldn't help the smile that crept its way onto my face.

"Your Highness, Good morning" a maid greeted and he replied to her with a grunt. I heard him pull out a seat and sit down, his eyes fixed on my face. I wasn't looking but I could feel his hard stare, my face was hot and I needed to focus on something else, should I greet him? Maybe I should, just to push him off balance.

"Good morning, Damien, I hope you slept well wherever you laid down yesterday," I said looking back at him for just a brief moment before turning back to folding my tablecloth, he didn't respond and I smiled, this was going well, I said to myself.

"Here" I heard Christie say beside me with a trolley of food. I was reminded how hungry I was by the loud embarrassing roar of my stomach, Christie chuckled and I hit her on the shoulder.

"Don't do that!" I said hiding my smile, it didn't mean anything to me but I didn't want Damien knowing how hungry I was. I didn't eat anything yesterday because Damien was the only thing in my head.

I quickly took a little peek at him and caught him staring at me still, my face turned an even darker shade of red and I didn't like how much he affected me, he was soon going to make me break character and beg him to talk to me.

Sighing I watched Christie place all the food in her trolley on the table and was about to leave when I caught her arms.

"Have breakfast with me" I said and she frowned, shaking her head.

"What do you mean no? Please I don't want to eat by myself" I said and she smiled, she knew what I was doing.

"His Highness is at the table My Lady, you are not alone" she replied like she was reading from a script and it almost made me chuckle because she was repeating the same thing I had told her earlier if Damien came down for breakfast.

"Do you feel the presence of anybody other than me at the table? Just eat with me, I doubt His Highness would even mind, come on, it's lonely here by myself I need someone to talk to" I said and she bit her bottom lips, it was forbidden for maids to sit at the table to eat. I knew that so when Christie sat on the floor I got up, picked everything I wanted from the table, and was about to sit on the floor when I heard his voice.

"Don't you dare! Sit on the fucking table, Christie!"

I smiled immediately but quickly masked it. I dropped my plate on the table and sighed.

"I would rather not have you get punished for something I forced you to do, so how about we go eat in the kitchen" I said and Christie got up from the floor.

"Sit!" Damien said to Christie and she sat immediately like she had been compelled to. I also sat back down and picked up a piece of my bread stuffing it in my mouth to prevent me from smiling further, he still cared and it was all that mattered to me.

"Take a plate and eat something," I said, chewing softly on my food.

"I already ate before it was time for breakfast, I woke up early to eat when I remembered we had nothing to eat yesterday, I wanted to come to give you some fruits and pastries but I figured you might be asleep from all those stress," she said and my mouth opened and closed, it wasn't part of what I had told her to say, hell everything I had told her to say had ended.

When she mentioned we had nothing to eat yesterday I felt Damiens's eyes on me, I could feel his scowl, then she went ahead and mentioned stress and I heard him drop his spoon, was he still looking at me? I couldn't tell so I tried to ignore him.

"What are you saying, i-i didn't stress, it wasn't something I couldn't handle, you were also stressed, and yet you have been awake making breakfast," I said and Christie smiled.

"You know I don't make food in the kitchen, I just serve"

"But you cook so well, why? " I asked genuinely concerned and she waved her fingers.

"It's nothing, I'm just a better server than a cook, I like serving you" She smiled and I couldn't help but smile back.

I think Damien had had enough of me ignoring him or he was done eating because he got up and left the table.

"Are you okay?" Christie asked and I nodded, I was not okay but I felt better than I did yesterday.

"Let's finish up here, Kara will be arriving soon".
