THE NEW KING

Damien's Pov.

I, Damien Ardelean, former Prince of Valthrun who now possesses the Crown of Valthrun as the new king after successfully ending the chapters of opposition, who thought they could make life a living hell for me.

This was my kingdom, my right, my pride and I would do anything to keep the throne for hundreds of years to come. With or without a queen.

Without a queen… Could that be possible?

Firstly, I would not stay past fifty years on the throne if I didn't get a queen for myself. Secondly, my queen…whom I thought was in love with me as I was, turned out she only wanted to be as far away from me as she could.

Was I a beast? Did Freda see me as dangerous? We had so many special moments. I was always looking forward to talking and cuddling with her in the bedroom after settling kingdom affairs, so why was she pulling away from me?

She made me a mess in front of my people. Rumors started spreading around that if I couldn't handle my mate, how could I handle the kingdom? The throne of Valthrun had been in so much chaos for the past months. I needed to ease the tension from my people.

I would give Freda the freedom she wanted. I wouldn't mark her as my vampire mate if she didn't want it. I wouldn't force her to live forever with me in Valthrun. If she wanted to die like humans do, like chickens, at such a young age, then I would let her be.

If she hated my world so much, I would stay far away from her.

Would she have woken up now? Was she okay? She was brutally injured during the fight. She tried to save herself and commended her efforts. But I was there, she didn't need to fight if I was around her.

Freda needed to understand that I was ENOUGH to protect and love her. If she thought otherwise about me, then I would be in no position to change her mind. I was going to be wonderful at the end of the day.

"Are you?" The question burst out from Lady Elara's mouth like she was listening to what I was thinking. "Are you okay, Damien?" She asked again.

"Certainly" I responded, adjusting in my seat.

"You were talking about the burial proceedings of Draken and Steve and then you zoned out."

Oh, I did.

"Let's continue. " I responded. Lady Daphne and Elara listened gently to the rules and necessities I needed to make the burial of my father and brother smooth. They took note of every detail promising it would be fulfilled as I wanted.

"How soon should the burial be held?" Lady Daphne asked.

"In a few days, the exact date will be communicated to you after Elara does her ritual."

"How about the rest of the killings?"

That reminded me. I still hadn't killed my enemies, people like Lord Balen, Uncle William, and the rest of the associates who had joined them in their devious plans to take me down.

"A day would be dedicated to their execution. Every citizen of Valthrun would be present!" I clenched my fist, controlling the emotions running through me.

"All information would be passed to the nobles, King Damien", Lady Daphne stood from her seat, bowed her head in respect, and left after a short while.

Elara and I sat face-to-face and she stared down at me with her evil eyes. I shot my gaze back at her. "You should leave too, the meeting is over."

"Have you reached out to her?" She asked me

I knew whom she spoke about, but I would pretend this wasn't even a conversation.

"Her? Who?"

"Freda, your may, your queen."

"She is not my queen."

"Yet…"

"She doesn't want to be my queen. I would not force her to be what she isn't."

"Freda is only overwhelmed with the emotions of her past. She thinks being away from supernatural responsibilities would make her feel like her real self. I am certain she had realized…"

"She realized nothing. Freda is happy, Ekara. Happy to be united with her mother, and happy to go to college. She deserved that at least."

"So you're not going to reach out to her?"

"I am not."

"Are you sure, Damien?"

"I am not!" I snapped and her eyes rested like she realized I wasn't joking anymore.

"That was why you sent Christie to be with her."

"That's her favorite person in the castle, I do not want her to miss her too much. I want the best for Freda."

"No, Damien. You're her favorite person in the castle. The faster you realize this, the better for both of you."

"She will be fine," I muttered standing up from my seat.

"Of course, she will, now that she is awake, she can…"

"She is awake?" I turned back to ask Elara and she nodded. "You can sense her from here?"

"Urhm, a little bit…I guess we've gotten closer than a tutor to a student now" She smiled and her dark aura seemed to brighten fir a moment. "This doesn't mean you can freely ask about her whenever you wish, I would not tell you a thing."

My heart fluttered for some reason and a small smile curled on my lips. "As long as she is okay. It is all I need to be fine. "

"Whatever." Elara scoffed and stood up. "Start learning how to sleep again because you're going to miss her and lose your sleep" With that she walked out of the castle.

I had lost my sleep since Freda left the castle, it would be no surprise if I kept up with it. All I thought about was her.

Have I made a stupid decision to let her go? Letting her be with her family? Not checking up on her? Was this going to be my biggest regret? Was she unhappy with this decision? Does she even miss me at all?
