SHE IS MY MATE
DAMIEN
From the moment I stepped into the carnage-filled hall, a strange, intoxicating scent filled my senses. It wasn't the metallic tang of blood, nor the scent of werewolf. No, this was different. It was a warmth, a sweetness that sent a primal yearning thruming through my veins. I began to feel jittery and on edge as the scent grew stronger.
Steve, my brother, strolled beside me, surveying the meeting hall. We approached Father, who was in the middle of subjugating the werewolves when he turned towards us with a proud smirk. Steve and Father were engaging in conversations but I couldn't even focus on what they what they were saying as my focus was scattered by the elusive scent.
The scent became stronger, drawing me in and I ignored my father and brother as I began to walk among the throes of wolves. I got closer to the source of the scent and my heart began to beat wildly in anticipation. Then, I saw her. The source of that intoxicating scent.
Hiding between the intimidating figures of the werewolves stood a beautiful lady. Her hair was the color of sunkissed wheat and it framed a face that could rival the beauty of any moonlit goddess. Her eyes were like big brown pools that held a dept of emotion that captivated me.
The world seemed to tilt on its axis as everything faded into insignificance when I laid my eyes on her. I began to feel a connection between us, a bond that I couldn't even begin to understand.
My lips moved as if it was compelled by an unseen force and I mouthed the words “mine”. It was a declaration that I couldn't help but make. I wanted to claim the girl as mine there and then and a surge of possessiveness unlike anything I had felt before washed over me.
Heat surged through me as I pushed through the throng of werewolves. I treated there growls and snarls like air as the only thing on my mind was the girl. Her scent grew stronger with every step and I quicked my pace. Finally I stood before her. Her big brown eyes stared right back at me, her eyes held a mix of fear and…. something else. Was it desire? I couldn't be sure.
Suddenly a tall and lean werewolf blocked my vision of her which only served to fan the embers of my rage. I looked up at the the werewolf with a fierce growl escaping my throat.
“Move aside.” I snarled. The possessiveness of my voice left no room for arguments.
The werewolfs eyes began to change to the color of blood and I could feel his wolf stiring but I wasn't move, not in the slightest.
“Who in the blazes do you think you are, blood sucker? This is my daughter and you will not take her anywhere!” The tall werewolf growled as his fingers shifted into sharp claws.
“She isn't yours anymore. She’s mine.” I countered with my voice taking a dangerous edge. I reached out for the hilt of my sword ready to cut this dog down to pieces of he didn't heed to my commands.
The girl in question peeked from behind her father's back as she stared at me curiously.
“Damien, what is the meaning of this?” My father's deep voice boomed across the room as he walked towards me with brisk steps.
“She is my mate and I want to claim her.” I declared with a certainty that surprised myself.
A collective gasp escaped the lips of every one in the room as werewolves and vampires alike stared at me in stunned silence.
“Mate? You can't possibly be serious! You're a vampire! She’s a werewolf!” My father asked incredulous. His gaze shifted to the girl and his eyes glinted with a dangerous light.
“The bond doesn't care about species. She is mine and I will not let you take her away from me.” I stated with a firm voice.
My heart hammered in my chest as I realized the implications of this bond. This was bigger than just claiming the girl. This could be a significant turning point in the centuries old struggle between our species. However I kept all of those thoughts aside as all I could think about was the girl with the large brown eyes. My mate.
“What about the plan Damien?” Steve, my twin brother drawled as he observed the situation with amusement. I knew exactly what he wa talking about. Initially I didn't care as long as it would give me more power but now, with the discovery of my mate, it changed everything. I resolved to not follow through with the plan any longer.
“Screw the plan. You can sacrifice the others for power but don't you dare come near my mate.”I roared and my fangs elongated involuntarily.
Silence descended upon the room. Everyone stared at me with wide eyes as I defiantly stood up against my brother and father.
My father's amusement had long since vanished and it was replaced by cold, icy fury.
“Damien.” He boomed with a deep voice. “You will follow the plan, you will kill your so called mate and you will siphon her blood and become stronger.”
“I will not kill her.” I countered defiantly as I stared at my father without backing down. How on earth did he expect me to harm my mate? The very idea of even a single hair leaving her body was repulsive, a violation of the bond that pulsed between us.
“Do as I command, or you will forfeit the title of heir. Steve would be more than happy to take up the mantle.” My father growled as he gestured towards my twin brother.
My twin smirked deviously when he heard my father's proclamation. He had always been salty about me being chosen as the heir to the vampire throne, so obviously this was exciting news to him.
“You want to take away my birthright?” I responded as a dry chuckle escaped my lips. I had already decided on my next course of action and it wasn't going to be pretty.
“Now listen to me father, I will keep my birthright as heir and I will still have my mate. No one, not even you can stop this eventuality.” I declared with such force and authority it reverberated across the room and my father's eyes widened in shock at my defiance of his authority
