Chapter 10

When she opened her eyes, she saw that she was alone in the bed; he must have left for work after putting her in this situation. She checked the time and saw that she had only slept for two hours. Lilly carefully got up from the bed and headed to the bathroom. After taking a long, cold bath, she went to the closet that had a connected door with the bathroom.

After dressing up, she stepped into the living room only to see Alexander sitting on one of the couches. Lilly was surprised to see Alexander in the room; she had thought he had left for work but was still here. She was not ready to face him after what happened last night and earlier this morning between them, but here he was.

Alexander raised his head and looked at her from head to toe. He frowned when he saw what she was wearing. "What are you wearing?"

Lilly looked at what she was wearing and could not find anything wrong with it. She was wearing a black T-shirt, black pants, a black face cap, and white sneakers.

"What is wrong with what I'm wearing?"

"Go change it now," he ordered.

Lilly frowned. "No."

"What did you say?" He looked straight at her with his cold gaze.

"Mr. Kane, it is stated in the contract that we will not interfere in each other’s lives and choices, and wearing this is my choice, so I'm not taking it off."

Alexander stood up and approached her, pinning her to the wall, making her heart race. Alexander raised her chin up. "Is that so? We will see about that then."

That statement made her shiver. Who knew what he was planning to do?

"Now let's make something clear: whatever intimate moment we share is only for one reason, which is for you to get pregnant. So don't you ever think it to be something else or develop any sort of feeling as a result, got it?"

Lilly just stared at him silently.

"I will take that as a yes." He let go of her and left.

Lilly sighed. She already knew the reason why they were being intimate, but hearing it from him made her heart ache.

She got to her coffee shop by 12 pm, thanks to Alexander, who made her late for work again.

"Late again," Sarah said as she served the customers their coffee.

"I'm sorry, and I promise not to be late again," Lilly assured her.

"Mmmm," Sarah said as she walked back to the counter with the tray.

Lilly followed behind and hugged her from the back. "Thank you so much, Sarah. I don't know what I will do without you, and please don't be angry with me for my lateness and my absence the past few days."

Sarah smiled and turned to face her. "It's fine, I understand now that you have to always come to work from the other side of the city, which takes an hour."

"Thanks." She hugged her again.

"Meanwhile, you look different this morning." Sarah looked at her from head to toe.

"What is wrong with what I'm wearing? I want to be able to move around freely."

"I'm not referring to your outfit, Lilly." Sarah looked at her from head to toe again.

"Huh?" Lilly was confused.

"You look like someone whose strength was drained out; you look pale." Sarah smiled.

Lilly coughed when she finally understood what she meant. "If I'm so drained out right now, it is the handiwork of Mr. Kane."

Sarah smiled. "He is your husband now, so no need to be embarrassed."

"It's so I could get pregnant," Lilly murmured.

Sarah heard what she said and sighed. "I don't think it's only the reason. Somewhere deep down in his heart, he might have some likeness for you, which made him choose you."

"No, he made it clear before leaving the house this morning that it's all because I need to get pregnant. And about picking me, he picked me because I was the last one standing," Lilly said, then remembered his statement this morning.

Sarah hugged her from the back and didn't say any other word.

After two hours of being busy in the coffee shop, Lilly received a call, and when she saw the number, she left for the storeroom to answer the call. "Michael, what is it?" she asked.

"Hello Lilly, there is something I found that might help us find your sister's assassins."

"Oh my God, finally," she said happily. She had been investigating her sister's death for six months now, and now there was finally something that would help them find the assassin that was sent by her stepmother.

"Yes Lilly, this is great news."

"Yes, it is. We need to meet right now. I will send you the location of where we are going to meet."

"Alright, see you there."

Lilly hung up the call and dialed another number, which was picked up on the first ring. "Meet me at my house in less than an hour, Lucas."

"Did something happen, Ma'am?"

"Michael found something that will help with our investigation, so get to my apartment right away."

"I'm on my way."

Lilly hung up the call and returned inside to take her things and leave.

"Where are you heading to?" Sarah asked the moment she saw her picking up her things.

"Michael found a lead on our investigation, so we need to meet to talk about it."

"Really?" Sarah was happy as well. Finally, they had found something.

"Yes, Sarah."

"So where are you meeting with them? You know you can't just go anywhere since they are still searching for you."

"We will be making use of my small apartment from now on as our meeting place since I'm no longer living there."

"That is a perfect place. You have to hurry up then. I will take care of things here."

"Thank you, Sarah, for helping out with things here."

"What are friends for? I'm here to help you with just anything."

Lilly hugged her tight before leaving.

When she got to her apartment, she saw the lock open, which meant they were already here.

"You asked me to be here in less than an hour, now look who's late," Lucas complained as he stationed his laptop and other tech on her dressing table.

"Sorry, I'm late."

Michael was busy stationing photos and other things on a wide transparent board.

After closing the door, Lilly walked to where Michael was standing to see what he was doing. She looked at the photos he placed on the board carefully.

"This rooftop looks familiar."

"Yes, that is where the assassin had shot from."

Lilly remembered that day very clearly. It was close to the park where her sister was shot. The bullet shot towards her did not meet her; if it had, she would also be dead. She looked at the other photos and felt so emotional. She suddenly had a flashback of what happened, which made tears roll down her eyes.

The photos of the shooter were taken from a distance, so she could not see the face of the shooter but could see that the person was dressed in all black.

"How did you get these photos?" She had checked the CCTV footages around the area, but everything was broken; none of them recorded what had happened. But all of a sudden, photos were resurfacing after six months of their death.

"It's anonymous. I got it through my email."

Lilly turned to Lucas. "Lucas, I want you to find out who the person that sent the anonymous email is."

"I have tried but couldn't. Whoever it is must be better than me when it comes to hacking to be able to hide their identity."

"If the person had taken photos, he or she must have seen the person on the rooftop before he started shooting," Lilly said.

"Why would someone see such a thing and not alert everyone in the park to run away?" Michael could not understand.

"What if the person is an accomplice?" Lucas asked.

"Then why send these photos?" Michael asked.

Lilly looked at the photo closely. "Maybe the person didn't have time to warn us."

"What do you mean?"

"Look at the photos closely. From the angle it was taken, it means the person was not in the public park but across the street. I need to check it out." Lilly picked up her bag, ready to leave.

"Don't." Michael held her back. "I will check it myself. Going there will remind you of that day."

Lilly thought about what he said and then nodded. "Okay."

"Meanwhile, I was wondering?"

"About what?"

"Why are you no longer living here? Where did you move to and why?" Michael questioned.

Lucas turned to look at her as he waited for her response. He also wanted to know why.

Lilly looked at both of them, not knowing where to start or how to tell them that she was now married and had even signed a contract.
