Chapter 88

“I won’t make your end easy, Lily. It will be prolonged and excruciating,” Kate declared with a sinister grin.

“Just promise me you’ll let her go,” Lily insisted.

“I can’t promise that because we’re not close. Guess what?” Kate said.

“What?” Lily asked.

“I have another surprise for you. I have an accomplice who wants to see Alexander’s downfall. Start guessing until my next call. Bye for now,” Kate replied.

Despite not desiring Alexander’s ruin since she cared for him, Lily had to agree to the plan because she needed the support and resources of the person behind it to escape confinement and execute her scheme. They had agreed to stay out of each other’s plans; Lily was her target, but Alexander was his.

Lily and Alexander exchanged shocked glances at Kate’s revelation. Who could be plotting against Alexander?

Alexander could think of many potential enemies due to his numerous rivals.

“What are you talking about, Kate? Please, tell me!” Lily begged. It was one thing for Kate to target her, but the thought of Alexander being part of the scheme heightened her fear.

“Goodbye,” Kate said, cutting the call.

“Wait!” Lily shouted, but the line was already dead.

Kate smiled in satisfaction and sat on the bed. “Aww, even when you cry, you’re so endearing, and so clever for your age,” Kate remarked, though her expression turned to a frown.

Upon arriving at the hideout after escaping prison, she learned about the little girl’s attempt to flee. The CCTV footage showed Lily’s daughter trying to escape by reading the signs on the door. No one expected a three-year-old to be so literate and resourceful, underestimating her abilities.

Kate should have anticipated this, considering the child was the offspring of Alexander Kane and Lily Blake. After her failure to escape, the child cried, realizing her only chance was if her parents came to rescue her.

“Get out of my sight,” Kate said sternly, wiping her own tears. She regretted showing her emotions during the call; it would only worry her parents more.

Kate was surprised. “Wow, you have your father’s temperament. It’s somewhat endearing to see a bit of him in you,” she said with a smile that soon shifted to anger. She seized the child roughly and dragged her closer.

“Let me go!” the child screamed, tears streaming down her face.

“Look at me,” Kate demanded, lifting her chin. “If your mother doesn’t come to save you, you’re done for,” she warned before shoving the child away.

Kate then approached Rosa, her trusted friend, who had been supporting her since her prison escape, before another ally joined her cause.

“Rosa, I need you to stay here and monitor her. She’s quite clever; if she escapes again, we might not catch her,” Kate instructed.

“I’ll stay and watch over her. We’re in this together. All I want is for you to get your revenge and then free your mother later,” Rosa replied.

Kate smiled and hugged her. “What would I do without you? To think you’ve been financing this project… I don’t know how to repay you.”

“The only way you can repay me is by being happy,” Rosa said.

Kate smiled and nodded. “I know Rosa cares deeply for her. After this, I’ll make sure to repay her kindness.”

The news of Kate’s escape and her role in the child’s kidnapping alarmed everyone. Caleb began reaching out to old allies for assistance, recognizing the need for all the help he could get.

Grandma Helen, weakened both physically and emotionally, had been praying at the temple since the child’s disappearance.

Alexander’s team struggled to locate Kate, increasing his anxiety. Despite becoming a powerful figure in the underworld, he had numerous enemies who desired his position. With his newfound vulnerabilities—Lily and their child Viola—his foes had seized an opportunity. The person aiding Kate must be among those wishing to bring him down. He was prepared to face their trap if it meant saving his daughter.

Alexander and Lily arrived at his underground headquarters, his most secretive base. Lily, seeing it for the first time, marveled at its size and the array of prison and torture equipment.

“I like this place; it’s enormous and has various kinds of equipment,” she said.

Her tears had ceased as she came to terms with her adversary. Alexander, having contacted his friend for assistance, prepared for their next steps. Although Lily was anxious for their child and Alexander’s safety, Alexander was resolute to protect both.

He guided Lily to the changing room, filled with combat gear. He hadn’t anticipated bringing her to this place, but they were preparing for battle.

Sarah, Jacob, and Michael had also arrived, ready to assist. It was a war, and they needed all the help they could get.

Lily chose the darkest, most formidable bodysuit with leather straps and a half-face mask from the options Alexander provided.

Alexander approved her choice. “Badass,” he said.

Lily managed a faint smile.

Alexander equipped her with a gun holster and loaded weapons. “They’re all loaded. Shoot when necessary,” he instructed.

Lily nodded, and Alexander fastened her bulletproof vest before she donned the bodysuit. Despite his precautions, he was anxious about her safety since she would confront Kate first.

“I’m really worried about your safety. I didn’t think I’d ever feel this afraid,” Alexander admitted.

Lily could see his anxiety mirrored her own. “I wish you didn’t have to go; I’d rather handle it alone,” she said.

“Not with Viola in their hands and their intent on taking me down. I can’t stay idle,” Lily responded.

“Tonight is the night of battle. We must retrieve our child. We’ll get Viola back,” Alexander assured, embracing Lily tightly.

“We will get Viola back. I’ll make sure of it,” Alexander promised.
