Chapter 85
Six hours later, as school let out, parents arrived to pick up their children. Viola eagerly prepared to leave, excited to join her mother at work. She aspired to be just like her, a confident and capable businesswoman.
Ms. Amster noticed her enthusiasm and smiled, asking if she was ready to go. Viola quickly confirmed. Ms. Amster, always cautious, personally escorted Viola to ensure that the right person picked her up. Given Viola’s powerful parents, any mistake could cost Ms. Amster her job and possibly even lead to the school’s closure. Although she cared for all her students, she was particularly vigilant with Viola, not out of favoritism, but out of fear of the consequences if something went wrong, especially considering Viola’s father’s reputation.
"Alright, hold my hand," Ms. Amster instructed, and Viola gladly did so, eager to leave. However, they were interrupted by another teacher, Mr. Harold, who usually taught a different class.
"Mr. Harold, what are you doing here? I thought you had left?" Ms. Amster asked.
"I was about to, but the principal called me back. She mentioned a couple who want to enroll their child in your class, and she asked to see you," Mr. Harold replied, glancing at Viola.
Ms. Amster was puzzled. Who enrolls their child at the end of the school day? Such things are usually handled in the morning or at the beginning of a term. However, thinking that Viola’s mother must already be waiting, she decided to drop Viola off first.
"I'll take Viola to her mother and then see the principal," Ms. Amster said.
But Mr. Harold insisted, "The principal is about to leave, and the couple is in a hurry. I can take Viola to her mother for you."
Ms. Amster hesitated, feeling uneasy, but after some back and forth, she reluctantly agreed. As Ms. Amster handed Viola over, she couldn’t shake a feeling of dread. Viola didn’t seem to like Mr. Harold much either and looked disappointed as they parted.
"Come on, Viola, it's time to go," Mr. Harold said with a smirk, leading Viola away. As they neared the exit, Viola spotted her mother waiting outside and smiled, but her mother couldn’t see her through the tinted glass.
"Why aren’t we going to my mommy?" Viola asked, confused.
Mr. Harold bent down to Viola’s level, his voice dripping with malice. "This will be the last time you see your mother," he said, smirking. Viola, alarmed, tried to bite him, but before she could react further, Mr. Harold injected something into her arm, causing Viola to pass out. Just before losing consciousness, Viola caught a glimpse of her mother and whispered, "Mummy," as tears filled her eyes.
Mr. Harold then carried Viola through a hidden exit, leaving the school unnoticed. He had taken the teaching job a year ago, all for this moment.
Meanwhile, Lilly anxiously checked her watch. Fifteen minutes had passed since she’d been standing outside, waiting for Viola. The delay was unusual, and with each passing minute, her impatience grew.
Finally, Ms. Amster emerged, but Viola was not with her. Panic set in as Lilly rushed toward her.
"Good morning, Mrs. Kane," Ms. Amster greeted her nervously.
"Where is Viola?" Lilly demanded, skipping the pleasantries.
Ms. Amster froze in shock. "Viola? I... I sent her with another teacher to meet you."
"What teacher? I haven’t seen anyone with Viola," Lilly said, her voice filled with rising fear.
Ms. Amster’s heart sank. She had handed Viola over to Mr. Harold, trusting him due to his year of service at the school. But now, Lilly’s panic confirmed that something had gone terribly wrong.
"Where is this teacher?" Lilly demanded again.
"He was supposed to bring Viola to you," Ms. Amster stammered, trembling.
Without waiting for more explanations, Lilly marched into the school, shouting for Viola as she searched every corner, Samuel and Pedro trailing behind her. But there was no sign of Viola or Mr. Harold.
When Samuel and Pedro informed their boss of Viola’s disappearance, Lilly was beyond furious. She slapped Ms. Amster in a fit of rage, screaming, "You had one job, and you failed!"
Ms. Amster wept, filled with regret and fear for the consequences. Where could Mr. Harold have taken Viola?
Lilly, desperate and terrified, called Jacob, her voice shaking with tears. "Jacob, Viola is missing," she sobbed.
Jacob and Michael were stunned. Viola had been taken, but by whom?
As the news spread, Alexander, who had been away on a business trip, immediately canceled all his meetings and took a private jet back. Enraged and desperate, he made several calls, mobilizing the police, the army, and his personal security team to find his daughter.
James, his assistant, handed him the information on Mr. Harold. It turned out that he was an orphan and an ex-convict who had forged his identity to get the teaching job.
Alexander’s anger knew no bounds. "Shut down the school permanently!" he ordered, and within minutes, the school was closed by the education minister, with no protest from the families, given the seriousness of the situation.
As the city was thrown into chaos over Viola’s disappearance, every available resource was used to search for her. But despite all efforts, it was clear that the kidnappers had planned this meticulously, leaving no trace behind.
