“Whoever sent that letter wants to scare you,” Caleb said, breaking the silence. “But it’s more than a threat—it’s a challenge. They want to test how far you’re willing to go.”
Lily set her jaw, her determination unwavering. “Well, they’ll find out soon enough that we don’t scare easily. Carolina and Ariana thought they could corner us, and look where they ended up.”
Caleb nodded approvingly, but Alexander couldn’t shake his concern. “We need to know exactly who we’re up against this time. Carolina’s allies are powerful, and they might be more organized than we realize.”
Caleb leaned back, considering Alexander's words. “We’ll have to reach out to some old contacts, see if we can find out who’s making moves. But you should be prepared for the possibility that this could get ugly. We’re dealing with people who don’t play by any rules.”
Before they could discuss further, Alexander’s phone buzzed on the table. It was a private message from a trusted contact, someone who owed Alexander a favor. As he read the message, his expression grew more serious. “It’s worse than we thought,” he muttered, catching Lily and Caleb’s attention.
“What is it?” Lily asked, leaning closer to see the message.
Alexander sighed deeply, handing her the phone. “There’s been a series of strange meetings happening in the city. Carolina’s allies are regrouping faster than we expected. It looks like they’ve appointed a new leader.”
Lily read the message, her brow furrowing as she took in the details. “So they’re not backing down. They want to pick up where Carolina left off.”
Caleb looked thoughtful for a moment before speaking. “A new leader means a new strategy. We have to find out who this person is and what they’re planning. If they’re as ruthless as Carolina, we could be facing an even greater danger.”
Just as Alexander was about to respond, a knock echoed through the hallway. Alexander and Lily exchanged a glance, and Caleb reached for the concealed weapon he kept in his jacket. Alexander approached the door cautiously, opening it just a crack.
Standing on the doorstep was a young man, barely out of his teens, wearing a worn-out hoodie. He looked nervously over his shoulder before speaking. “I need to speak to you—it's about the people coming after you. Please, let me in. I don’t have much time.”
Lily raised an eyebrow, scrutinizing the stranger. “Who are you, and why should we trust you?”
The young man’s hands trembled as he held up a small flash drive. “My name is Jordan. I used to work for one of Carolina’s allies. I have information—stuff that could help you. But if they find out I’m here, I’m as good as dead.”
Alexander weighed his options for a moment before stepping back to let him in. Jordan hurried inside, his eyes darting around the room. “You’re making a big risk coming here,” Alexander warned him. “You better have something worth our time.”
Jordan nodded quickly, handing over the flash drive. “They’ve been planning something big—something that involves a lot more than just revenge against you. It’s all on here. Just... please, help me get out of this. I don’t want to end up like Carolina.”
Lily took the flash drive, sliding it into a nearby laptop. As the files loaded, Alexander watched Jordan carefully, trying to gauge whether he could be trusted. But the urgency in the young man’s eyes seemed genuine.
The screen flickered to life, revealing a series of documents, surveillance footage, and encrypted messages. Lily’s expression darkened as she scanned through the files. “They’re not just targeting us,” she whispered. “They’re planning to take control of the entire network Carolina left behind. They want power, not just revenge.”
Caleb leaned over her shoulder, reading the files with a frown. “If this is true, we’re dealing with a full-scale takeover. They want to seize everything Carolina once controlled—her businesses, her contacts, everything.”
Alexander exhaled sharply. “We need to strike first. If they gain control of those resources, they’ll have enough power to crush anyone who stands in their way—including us.”
Lily nodded, her mind already racing with plans. “Then we need to use this information to get ahead of them. If we can dismantle their plans before they can regroup, we might have a chance.”
Jordan watched them, fear still etched across his face. “Please, I did what you asked. You said you’d protect me.”
Alexander met his gaze, nodding firmly. “You did the right thing, Jordan. We’ll make sure you’re safe. But you need to tell us everything you know about their new leader. We have to find out who’s pulling the strings before it’s too late.”
As Jordan began to speak, the atmosphere in the room grew tense, the weight of their next steps pressing down on all of them.
