Chapter 45
After a long, lingering kiss, they parted, with Lilly catching her breath and her cheeks flushed. Alexander noticed her surprise and the color in her face. They maintained silent eye contact for a while.
"I've arranged for a driver and a bodyguard to accompany you wherever you go starting today," Alexander finally said, breaking the silence.
"A new driver?" she questioned.
"Yes, you won't be leaving the house or returning alone anymore. I need to ensure your safety at all times." Lilly nodded in agreement.
"Once you're finished, I want you to head to the family residence this evening," Alexander continued.
"The family residence? Is everything okay with Grandma?" Lilly asked, concerned. Alexander wouldn’t ask her to go there without a reason.
"Sandra is arriving this afternoon, and Grandma is hosting a small welcome party for her this evening. She wants you to be there."
"Will you be there?" Lilly asked, hoping for his presence.
"Do you want me to be there?" he asked, his gaze lingering on her lips.
"Isn't she your sister? Don't you plan on welcoming her home?" she countered.
"Mmm," he responded before finally moving his hands from her waist. Lilly hadn't realized he was still holding her until he let go, and she suddenly missed his touch. Her mind began to wander, imagining him kissing every part of her and ending up in bed.
Alexander brushed his hand through her hair, twisting a few strands. "Be good," he said before leaving the room.
After he left, Lilly touched her heart and then her lips, still feeling the impact of the kiss. It wasn’t their first, but it felt like the first genuine kiss he had given her.
Heading downstairs for breakfast, she saw a sleek luxury car with a new driver and a bodyguard she didn’t recognize. Although Alexander had many bodyguards, she knew them by face. This one was unfamiliar.
As she approached, the bodyguard opened the door. "Good morning, ma'am. My name is Pedro, and I'm your new bodyguard," he said, bowing respectfully. He was tall, dark, and muscular, likely ex-military like some of Alexander's other bodyguards.
Lilly nodded in acknowledgment before getting into the car and seeing the driver up front. He had a similar build to Pedro, suggesting he was also a bodyguard.
"Good morning, ma'am. My name is Samuel, and I will be your driver from now on," he introduced himself.
Lilly nodded again. "Take me to the hospital," she instructed.
"Yes, ma'am," Samuel replied. Pedro took the front seat, and they drove off the estate.
At the hospital, Lilly went straight to Dr. Sophia's office. Since Sophia had become her doctor, they had developed a friendship.
She knocked and entered. "Good morning, Dr. Sophia," Lilly greeted with a smile.
Sophia stood up and hugged her. "Good morning, Mrs. Kane," she responded, making Lilly smile. No one else called her that except Sophia.
"You look beautiful as always," Sophia complimented. "Hold on, what's this glow about you today?" she asked, noticing Lilly's blushing face.
Remembering her morning with Alexander, Lilly blushed more. Sophia took her hand. "Want to tell me the secret?"
Lilly pondered. Alexander had only kissed her, and she didn’t want to jump to conclusions about his feelings. She wanted to be sure first. "I'll tell you when I'm sure," she replied.
"Sure about what?"
"About Alexander."
"Did he do something?" Sophia asked, looking excited.
Lilly sighed and nodded.
Sophia gasped and dragged her to the couch. "Tell me what he did!"
"He kissed me this morning when I told him my feelings for him hadn’t changed," Lilly said, smiling at the memory.
"Really?!" Sophia nearly shouted in excitement. "So, avoiding him for five days made him kiss you?"
Lilly nodded.
Sophia had an idea. "Since avoiding him worked, why not keep doing it so he’ll ask you to move back to his room, and then..." Sophia winked, making Lilly laugh.
"He ordered me to start having breakfast and dinner with him every day," Lilly said.
"He did?!" Sophia couldn’t believe it. "You call that affection?" Lilly asked, unsure.
"For Alexander, yes. You know he doesn't show affection easily. If he wants to spend time with you, that means something."
Lilly was surprised, as she had thought the same but hadn’t seen it as affection. "I thought the same," she admitted.
"See? He knows you love him. Give him time, and he’ll love you even more," Sophia reassured her.
Lilly hoped so. She wanted him to love her as much as she loved him, dreaming of a lifetime and many children together.
After finishing her check-up and having lunch with Sophia, Lilly headed to the Blake headquarters.
After about 40 minutes, the car stopped in front of the tall office building. Pedro opened the door for her, and she stepped out, staring at the structure. It wasn’t as tall as Alexander’s company but had stood for three decades.
The last time she was here, she was 12, and her grandfather had given her and her sisters a tour. Employees and passersby noticed the professionally dressed young lady arriving in a luxury car, recognizing her instantly.
She walked into the building, and several directors rushed to greet her. "Welcome, Miss Blake!"
They bowed their heads in respect. One of the directors spoke, "We're happy to have you here, Miss Blake. The old master sent us to accompany you to the meeting room."
"Lead the way," Lilly said.
They bowed again and escorted her to the meeting room on the 20th floor. Her arrival was announced, and she stepped inside, immediately greeting her grandfather at the head of the table.
Her grandfather nodded in acknowledgment. Lilly also greeted her father, seated nearby, professionally. The only reason for greeting him was his position as president of the Blake empire.
Lilly then greeted the other CEOs of the companies under the Blake umbrella. She only noticed Kate sitting at the far end after raising her head. She had forgotten Kate was now a CEO and would be here.
Kate frowned, feeling ignored. She was older by a year and held an important position. Ignoring Kate, Lilly took her seat next to her grandfather, opposite her father, who smiled at her. She returned his smile with an emotionless look.
Lilly leaned into the microphone. "Let's proceed with the meeting," she said in a professional tone.
