Chapter 41

"Sir, the next company on the agenda is the STH company. Should I call them in?"

"No, call in GLX instead," Alexander instructed, glancing at Lilly seated calmly nearby. Lilly had no idea what Alexander was planning.

Albert and his team were waiting in one of the company’s rooms when they were informed it was their turn. Albert was taken aback since he was told his company would be the last to present. Without dwelling on it, he and his team proceeded to the meeting room.

Entering the room, Albert introduced himself and his company, expressing eagerness for a partnership with Kane Corporation. His eyes scanned the room, first landing on Alexander, whose stern look made Albert uneasy, then on Lilly, sitting with a professional demeanor.

Albert hadn't expected to see Lilly there. He had discovered their marriage through online news and was shocked to learn Lilly’s true identity as the sole heir of the Blake empire, not the person he had known. If he had known her real identity, he wouldn’t have ended their relationship due to the benefits it could have brought him.

Albert and his team took their seats and began their presentation. Once it concluded, Albert asked Alexander for his opinion. Alexander turned to Lilly, "What do you think?"

Albert, puzzled, glanced at Lilly. Was she the decision-maker? Alexander clarified, "In today’s meeting, my wife will be evaluating and deciding on your project."

The term "my wife" echoed in Albert's mind, making him frown internally. He nodded, "Okay," shifting his gaze to Lilly, who looked at Alexander, her heart racing from his public acknowledgment. Was Alexander acting this way because of Albert, or was he simply acknowledging her? Lilly smiled at Albert, maintaining a polite demeanor since their relationship had ended amicably.

Feeling Alexander's intense stare, she turned to find him glaring at her. What had she done wrong? Ignoring it, she addressed Albert and his team.

"Your presentation was impressive. I reviewed your project plan, and it’s well done," Lilly began, glancing at Alexander and regretting it immediately as his gaze was icy. The tension in the room was palpable.

Lilly continued, "However, there is an issue that needs correction."

Albert, puzzled, asked, "What is it? We thoroughly reviewed everything before today."

Lilly opened the project file, pointing to the middle page. "Your cost and land calculations are inaccurate for the resort you plan to build in the east. The proposed cost and space are insufficient."

Albert, noticing the mistakes, admitted, "How did we miss this? What do you suggest?"

"Find a different location and ensure your calculations are accurate," Lilly advised.

Albert sighed, "Does this mean we have another chance to present?" He had heard of Alexander’s reputation for not giving second chances, so he had thoroughly vetted the project beforehand, knowing how crucial this partnership was for his company.

"I’ll make that decision," Alexander interjected. The employees, including James, were confused by Alexander’s change of stance.

Albert apologized, "I thought Lilly would decide, as you mentioned she would evaluate our project." Alexander’s cold stare in response made Albert uneasy, though he tried to hide it.

Lilly, sensing the tension between the two men, sighed, feeling the day dragging on.

Finally, Alexander declared, "Mr. Albert Lee, my company will not be partnering with yours. You have ten minutes to leave the premises."

Albert and Lilly were both shocked by this sudden decision. Alexander exited the room, with James following. Lilly hurried after them but couldn’t keep up with Alexander's pace.

Back in his office, Alexander instructed, "Cancel the remaining meetings. Return their project plans and inform them we won’t be partnering with them."

James hesitated, "But sir, they’re already—"

A glare from Alexander silenced him. "Yes, sir."

"And also," Alexander added, "ensure no company partners with GLX."

James, stunned, realized Alexander intended to ruin Albert’s business. Was he jealous of Lilly’s ex-boyfriend? James thought it was the only logical explanation.

"Are you deaf?"

"No, boss. I’ll handle it," James replied, exiting the office and encountering Lilly.

"Is Mr. Kane inside?" she asked.

"Yes, ma'am."

Lilly entered the office. Twenty minutes later, she emerged, visibly angry. She took the elevator to the ground floor, about to hail a taxi when a black car with tinted windows stopped beside her. The window rolled down, revealing a familiar face.

"Mr. Victor, what brings you here?"

"Your grandfather requests your presence."

"Why?"

"You’ll find out when we get there."

Lilly glanced back at the company building before getting into the car, which drove off immediately. Alexander, meanwhile, had searched for her on the rooftop but, not finding her, checked the CCTV footage. Seeing her get into the car brought back memories he had tried to suppress. Was history repeating itself?
