Chapter 52

On the outskirts of the city, a seemingly deserted warehouse hides a dark secret: five underground levels unknown to the outside world. This clandestine base is one of many places where Alexander brings those who cross him, subjecting them to brutal torture until their demise.

In a dimly lit room on the fourth subterranean level, Alexander stood before a long table laden with various tools and weapons. He meticulously selected a butcher's knife, his cold gaze shifting to a young man whose hands were bound and neck roped, precariously balanced on a stool.

The captive winced in agony, already battered from continuous torture. Terror filled his eyes as he saw the butcher's knife. "Please..." he pleaded, tears streaming down his face. He had only followed orders to run over a woman, unaware of the reasons behind the mission.

"Please?" Alexander sneered. "Not until I get what I want."

The young man's body trembled. "If I were you, I wouldn't do that," Alexander warned, eyeing the rope and stool. "Too much movement and you'll strangle yourself."

"I'd rather die than endure this," the young man muttered before kicking the stool away, the rope tightening around his neck.

Alexander watched, emotionless, as the man began to strangle. "Hold him in place," he ordered. His men, who had been lurking in the shadows, rushed forward, steadying the stool and saving the man from certain death.

Gasping for air, the young man whimpered, "Why won't you let me die?"

"I'm not finished with you," Alexander replied, darkly. He approached, stabbing the knife into the man's foot, eliciting a scream of pain.

Meanwhile, at the first underground level, Ethan drove in and exited his car. "Welcome, sir," a guard greeted.

"Where's your boss?"

"In the torture room," the guard replied.

Ethan headed to the elevator, descending to the fourth level. He walked through the dark corridors to the torture room, opening the door to a gruesome sight: Alexander was mercilessly torturing the young man, who bled profusely.

"Alexander," Ethan called, receiving no response. "Stop!" he shouted, but Alexander ignored him.

"Lilly has woken up," Ethan finally said, causing Alexander to stop abruptly.

Alexander turned, staring at Ethan. "What did you say? This better not be a joke, or you'll regret it."

"Lilly woke up. I just came from the hospital. You weren't answering your calls, so Richard told me you were here." Alexander dropped his tool and headed out, stopping when Ethan blocked his path.

"Are you going to see her like this?" Ethan asked, noting the bloodstains on Alexander's clothes.

Alexander glanced at his attire, then brushed past Ethan, heading to the fifth floor to clean up. Ethan sighed, looking at the tortured man.

After washing up and changing clothes, Alexander rushed to the hospital. Upon arrival, his bodyguards informed him that Sophia had taken Lilly out of her room, infuriating him. He went to Sophia's office but found only a nurse.

"Where's the doctor?" he demanded coldly.

The frightened nurse replied, "Dr. Sophia went to the ICU."

Realizing where Lilly had been taken, Alexander headed to Sandra's room. Hearing sobbing as he approached, he saw Lilly leaning against the glass, staring at Sandra, who was on life support. Lilly was crying, whispering Sandra's name, her hand connected to a drip.

Sophia's eyes widened when she saw Alexander. He walked over and gently hugged Lilly.

"Alexander," Lilly said, looking up at him. He wiped her tears away. "I'm here," he reassured her.

"It's my fault. I was the target, but Sandra got hurt instead. Now she's fighting for her life," Lilly sobbed.

Alexander held her close. "It's okay. She'll pull through. Stop blaming yourself."

Lilly leaned into him, crying. "You need to rest," he told her. "You're not strong enough yet."

"No, I want to stay and watch over her."

"You need to get well first. A sick person can't take care of another. You know that, right?" he gently reminded her.

"I'm fine. I can stay," Lilly insisted.

Alexander cupped her face, making her look at him. She noticed the dark circles under his eyes. "I caught the hitman. He's locked up," he revealed, bringing hope to Lilly's eyes.

"Really?"

Alexander nodded. "I also caught the driver who hit Sandra. My men are searching for the gang leader. We'll find out who orchestrated this."

Lilly felt relieved. "I want to be there when you interrogate them."

Alexander agreed. "But first, you need to recover and take care of our baby, okay?"

"Okay," Lilly nodded.

"Good girl. Let's head back to your room," Alexander said. Lilly looked at Sandra one last time before following him. Alexander gave Sophia a cold look, angry she had taken Lilly out of her room. He led Lilly back, not forgetting Sophia's actions.

Sophia, shivering under Alexander's glare, knew she was in trouble. She hurried to Richard for help.

Richard had just finished an eight-hour surgery and was resting when Sophia entered his office. She climbed onto the bed, disturbing him.

"Richard," she called.

Richard opened his eyes, smiling at the sight of her. "Yes, baby?"

"I'm in trouble. I need your help before Alexander sends someone to drag me to his base," Sophia cried.

Richard sat up. "What did you do?"

Sophia pouted. "I...I..." she stammered, remembering how Alexander almost locked her in a dark room last time.

"What did you do?"

"Lilly woke up and..."

"Lilly finally woke up?" Richard asked, happy.

"Yes."

"That's great news. Alexander can finally sleep. He hasn't slept since that day."

"Yeah."

"So, what did you do?"

"When Lilly woke up, she started asking about Sandra and cried a lot. I told her Sandra was fine, but she insisted on seeing her. I explained Sandra was in the ICU and in a vegetative state, but she still wanted to see her. So, I took her to the ICU. About an hour later, Alexander came and found her there. I hoped to return her to her room before he arrived, but he came so quickly."

Richard sighed. "Don't worry. He won't do anything."

"What do you mean? He gave me a look that made me almost pee myself. He's planning something for letting Lilly leave her room."

"Lilly won't let him do anything to you."

"And why do you think she can convince him not to?"

"Because she's his weakness. If she pleads on your behalf, he won't do anything."

Sophia sighed in relief, knowing Lilly was indeed his weakness. She had seen how much he cared for her, even if it wasn't obvious to others. Those close to him knew he cared more for her than anyone else.

"If there's nothing else, I'm going back to sleep," Richard said, lying down and covering himself with a blanket. Sophia kicked off her sandals and joined him under the blanket, wrapping her arms around him.

"Aren't you going back to work?"

"No," Sophia shook her head.

Richard almost laughed. "Still afraid of Alexander?"

"He might send someone to take me out of the hospital secretly, and Lilly might not be able to save me."

Richard couldn't hold back his laughter. "Oh gosh, I love you," he said, kissing her lips.

Sophia rolled her eyes.

"The fear of Alexander is the beginning of wisdom," Richard said, laughing again.
