Chapter 71

"I really missed you guys," Lilly said as they sat at their reserved table.

"I missed you too. I rushed back because I missed Viola as well. Has she been asking about me?" Michael asked.

"I told her you two were coming today, and she was thrilled."

"I can't wait to see her," Michael said.

"Her birthday is coming up soon, right?" Jacob asked.

"Yes, she will be three next month."

"I need to think about what to get her for her birthday," Michael said.

"Me too," Jacob added.

"She's growing up so fast, isn't she?"

"Way too fast. I wish she would just act her age because sometimes she behaves like an adult," Lilly sighed.

Jacob and Michael both smiled. "She's very smart. I wish I had a child like that," Jacob admitted.

"You can, if you get a girlfriend and settle down," Lilly teased.

Michael laughed at the horrified look on Jacob's face.

"You should do the same, Michael," Lilly said.

"I'll pass."

"Me too," Jacob added.

Lilly couldn't believe her ears. "Are you both planning to stay single forever?"

Michael and Jacob exchanged a look.

"What's that look?" Lilly asked, noticing their silent communication.

"We're planning to start a tech company together. There will be so much work that we won't have time to look for girlfriends," Michael explained.

"Really? That sounds like a great business. I can't wait to be your first business partner. Cheers to a successful venture!"

They raised their glasses and made a toast.

After taking a sip, Lilly set her glass down. "But still, you both should give it a try. You can go on blind dates." She wanted them to settle down since they weren't getting any younger.

Both men shook their heads. "Not now."

"We'll let things happen naturally," Jacob said.

Lilly pouted. "But I want to be a godmother or an aunt."

"You'll have to wait a while," Jacob replied.

She sighed. "I really miss Sarah. If she were here, she would help me convince you both."

"Nothing would change," Jacob said.

"We'll see about that. Once I tell her, she'll start matchmaking for both of you."

"Oh no, please don't," Michael pleaded, knowing Sarah's capabilities.

"Please don't," Jacob shook his head.

"I thought you said it wouldn't change anything."

"I was wrong. You don't need to talk to her."

Lilly smiled. "I won't if you say so."

"When was the last time you saw her?"

"She visited three months ago, and I haven't seen her since. I really miss her." Sarah had moved to G City six months ago for a job opportunity she loved.

"Have you thought about visiting her? Jacob and I are heading to G City in a few days. We can see her then. Do you want to come?"

"As much as I'd love to, I can't. I'm a wife, a mother, and I run a company. These three things need me here."

"We'll send your regards."

Their meals arrived, and they continued chatting and laughing.

Her phone rang, and when she saw who was calling, she ignored it and kept talking. Her father must have heard about the meeting and wanted to explain himself. Too late.

The phone rang again, catching Michael and Jacob's attention. "You should answer that," Michael suggested.

Lilly looked at her ringing phone and decided it was best to pick it up, but not there. "Excuse me, I'll be back."

She walked out of the restaurant and headed to the restroom to take the call. Someone at a distant table immediately stood up and followed her.

In the restroom, Lilly answered the call and waited for him to speak.

"Lilly," Peter said, but she remained silent. He had just learned about the meeting and was surprised.

"Why did you call?" Her tone saddened him. It felt like they were back to square one. If he had known, he would have told her first before his father. He just wanted his grandfather's approval first.

"My assistant just informed me about tomorrow's meeting. I was really surprised. I didn't think Father would approve the project."

"You didn't know when you presented it to him?"

Peter sighed. "I was going to tell you tomorrow evening when we have dinner at the family house. Unfortunately, you already know."

"I'm busy right now. We'll see each other at the meeting tomorrow. Goodbye." She hung up before he could respond.

As she washed her hands, she heard the restroom door open and close. She looked towards the entrance and saw a middle-aged woman standing by the door. The woman, with blonde hair and wearing a black hoodie, looked like she came from the streets.

Lilly found her suspicious since she was just standing there staring. She dried her hands and picked up her bag to leave, but the woman blocked her way.

"Excuse me, you're in my way."

"I know," the woman replied.

Lilly raised an eyebrow and gripped her bag tighter, reaching for her phone.

"No need to do that. I'm not here to harm you. I have a message from Angela Kane."

"Angela Kane?" Lilly asked in surprise, referring to Alexander's mother.

"Yes, Alexander's mother. I was released from prison last week, and before I left, she asked me to meet you. So I came to Aurora City immediately after my release."

"Alexander's mother is in prison?"

"Yes, and her son is the one keeping her there."
