Chapter 146

As they approached the industrial district, the air around them grew thick with tension. The once-bustling area was now a graveyard of abandoned factories, their towering structures crumbling and covered in overgrowth. The perfect stage for Ariana’s final showdown.

Lily, Alexander, Caleb, and the rest of the team pulled up in front of the old factory where the live feed had shown Viola. The building loomed ominously in the distance, its dark silhouette barely visible against the night sky.

“This has to be it,” Michael said quietly, scanning the area. “No movement, but we can’t trust that she hasn’t set more traps.”

Lily took a deep breath, her mind racing with the possibilities. “We need to be smart. She’ll expect us to go in guns blazing, but we have to stay one step ahead.”

Alexander, ever the protector, placed a hand on her shoulder. “We’ll get her back. Together.”

She nodded, grateful for his presence but knowing the weight of what was to come. The battle had moved beyond just saving Viola—it was a battle for her entire family, her life, and everything she stood for. Ariana had orchestrated this chaos for far too long, and now, it was time to end it.

They moved cautiously toward the factory, splitting up into smaller teams to cover all possible entrances. Caleb and Michael took the back, while Alexander and Lily went in through the front, leaving Jacob to disable any traps from a safe distance.

As they entered the factory, the oppressive silence was deafening. Every step echoed through the vast, empty space. The shadows seemed to dance on the walls, and the smell of oil and decay clung to the air.

“Stay sharp,” Alexander whispered as they moved deeper into the building.

Suddenly, a faint cry pierced the silence.

“Mom!” It was Viola’s voice, weak but unmistakable.

Lily’s heart jumped. “Viola!” she called out, her voice cracking with emotion.

They sprinted toward the sound, winding through the maze of rusted machinery and debris. Finally, they reached a small room at the back of the factory, where Viola was tied to a chair, her face pale and streaked with tears.

But something was wrong.

As soon as Lily rushed to untie her daughter, Alexander’s eyes widened with realization. “Lily, wait—”

But it was too late. The moment her hands touched Viola’s restraints, a loud *click* echoed through the room.

A trap.

The floor beneath them dropped away, and a hidden platform descended rapidly, sending Lily and Alexander plummeting into the depths of the factory. The room spun in chaos as they fell into a dark, underground chamber.

Lily hit the ground hard, pain shooting up her leg. She gasped for air as Alexander landed beside her, disoriented but quickly recovering.

“Are you okay?” he asked, helping her to her feet.

Lily nodded, her eyes wide with fear. “Viola—where’s Viola?”

Before they could make sense of their surroundings, Ariana’s voice echoed through the chamber, her laughter chilling and triumphant.

“Well, well, well,” she purred, stepping out of the shadows. “I must admit, you were quicker than I expected. But, Lily, you’ve fallen into my final trap—just like I knew you would.”

Ariana looked every bit the villain she had become. Her eyes gleamed with malice as she circled them, savoring their helplessness.

“You thought you could outsmart me?” Ariana continued, her tone dripping with superiority. “This was never about Viola. It’s about you, Lily. This entire game—everything I’ve done—was to break you.”

Lily’s heart raced as she scanned the room for an escape, but Ariana had planned this meticulously. There was no way out.

Alexander took a step forward, fury blazing in his eyes. “If you think you’ve won, you’re wrong. We’ll end this here, Ariana.”

Ariana smirked, unphased by his threat. “Oh, Alexander, always the knight in shining armor. But you can’t protect her this time.”

Suddenly, a series of monitors flickered to life on the walls around them, showing live footage of Viola—this time for real. She was in another room, somewhere deep within the factory, unconscious but alive.

“Viola!” Lily screamed, her heart breaking.

“You see, Lily,” Ariana said, her voice softer now, “the choice is simple. You can fight me, try to end this, but you’ll lose precious time—and Viola will pay the price. Or, you can surrender, and I’ll let her go.”

The air was thick with tension, the weight of Ariana’s ultimatum pressing down on Lily like a vice. The room seemed to close in around her as she struggled to think clearly. Every instinct screamed at her to fight, but she couldn’t risk her daughter’s life.

“I don’t trust you,” Lily spat, her voice trembling. “You’ll never let her go.”

Ariana’s eyes gleamed with dark amusement. “Perhaps not. But what other choice do you have?”

At that moment, Caleb’s voice crackled through the earpiece in Lily’s ear. “Lily, we’re in position. We’ve found the main control room. Give us the word, and we’ll override the system.”

Lily’s mind raced. They had a chance. They could still turn this around. But it would require perfect timing—and a lot of risk.

“Stalling won’t save you,” Ariana sneered, taking a step closer. “Choose, Lily. Your daughter, or your revenge.”

Lily met Ariana’s gaze, her heart pounding. She clenched her fists, every muscle in her body ready for the fight to come. Then, in a calm, steady voice, she whispered into her earpiece, “Do it.”

Suddenly, the entire factory lit up as Caleb and Jacob hacked into the system, causing the lights to flicker and alarms to blare. The monitors around them went black as the power shifted in their favor.

Ariana’s smug smile faltered.

“You thought you’d won, but you underestimated us,” Lily said, her voice rising with newfound strength. “This ends *now*.”

In the chaos, Alexander charged at Ariana, catching her off guard as Lily sprinted toward the control room to free Viola. Ariana fought back with a viciousness that surprised even Alexander, her desperation clear. But this time, Lily’s team had the upper hand.

With Caleb guiding her, Lily raced through the maze of tunnels until she finally reached the room where Viola was held. Bursting through the door, she collapsed beside her daughter, tears streaming down her face as she untied her bonds.

“Mom?” Viola whispered weakly, her eyes fluttering open.

“It’s okay, baby,” Lily choked out, cradling her daughter in her arms. “I’m here. You’re safe now.”

Back in the chamber, Alexander and Ariana continued their brutal fight, neither willing to back down. But just as it seemed Ariana might escape again, a final plot twist unfolded.

Samson, who had been loyal to Ariana from the start, appeared at the edge of the room—his gun trained on both of them.

“Ariana,” he said, his voice low and filled with uncertainty. “It’s over.”

Ariana’s eyes widened in shock. “Samson, what are you doing?”

He hesitated, his hand trembling as he aimed the gun. “I can’t let this go on. You’ve lost.”

For the first time, Ariana looked genuinely afraid.
