Chapter 33
When he had instructed James to conduct a thorough investigation on her around the time they got married, James found no information beyond what she had initially disclosed, including the incident where she gifted his grandmother a costly gem, for which he couldn't trace the payment. There was something about her that he couldn't quite identify, and he wondered what her true motive was for marrying him. If she made the mistake of lying, he was determined to reveal a side of himself she had never seen.
She needed to be honest and let him know how she felt. Alexander’s reaction would reveal whether they had made any progress in their relationship.
"I..."
"You what!!" Alexander was growing impatient.
Lilly looked down at their feet, but Alexander lifted her chin so she could meet his gaze.
"Look me in the eye while you talk so I can tell if you’re lying."
"Go on," he commanded, staring into her eyes.
"I didn’t marry you for money but because I wanted to. The other women who came that day had two reasons: they wanted your money and the title of Mrs. Kane. I had only one reason—I love you." Lilly looked deeply into his eyes.
She waited for any reaction, but his face remained expressionless, void of any emotion.
"I love you, Alexander. I don’t want our marriage to end after a year and six months; I want it to last a long time," she said, but he continued to look at her blankly. She was sure, however, that he saw the sincerity in her eyes.
After about ten minutes, he finally spoke. "Tomorrow, your belongings will be moved back to your previous room. We will not interfere in each other's lives as stated in the contract. Understood?" His voice was cold.
Lilly wanted to speak, but she suddenly felt nauseous and quickly rushed to the bathroom.
Alexander stood there, staring in the direction of the bathroom.
Lilly finished vomiting, cleaned herself up, and sat in the toilet, reluctant to leave. She only left when she heard the room door close, indicating that Alexander had left.
His words replayed in her mind, making her heart ache.
The following day, he didn’t delay in ordering her things to be moved to her room on the second floor.

Richard and Sophia were surprised by what James had just told them over the phone. They hadn’t been at the banquet when Lilly went missing because they had rushed to the hospital for an emergency.
"This is huge," Sophia said.
"I knew there was something about her. She didn’t seem ordinary. She looked like an elite, but this is bigger than I imagined. She isn’t just from a wealthy family; she’s a Blake and the heir? Wow," Richard was astonished.
"She lied to Alexander. I wonder if he will divorce her," James said over the phone.
"He won’t, since they both signed a contract stating the marriage would end after a year and six months, and it’s only been a month," Richard said.
"They signed what?" James was shocked.
Richard explained everything.
"Wow, I knew there was more to this. But his behavior last night was strange. The Alexander I know wouldn’t act that way over anyone, let alone a woman," James said.
"What do you mean?"
"Alexander was worried about her and was willing to start a fight with the Blake family if they didn’t let him take Lilly back home."
Richard and Sophia exchanged glances. "Should we tell him?" Richard asked in a low tone.
"I don’t think we should, since James literally threatened us not to reveal Lilly’s information."
"What do I not know? What did Alexander tell you not to reveal?" James asked, having heard their conversation.
They had forgotten the phone was on speaker.
Richard sighed. "Lilly is pregnant. She’s going to have Alexander’s child."
"Wow," James said after a long silence. "I’m shocked. Seems a lot has been happening while I was away."
"Now it’s clear why he reacted that way—because of his unborn child."

In the past few days, Alexander had been on a business trip. They hadn’t seen each other since that night. He had left the next day for a business trip, according to what she heard from Clara. She had spent the past few days at home due to morning sickness. Sophia had advised her to stay indoors since this was a critical stage of pregnancy.
Grandma Helen had visited her a few times and had scolded her for not revealing her true identity but had also taken good care of her because she was pregnant.
Lilly scrolled through her phone, reading various headlines about herself and Alexander Kane. The media had already reported that they were married and that she was the missing daughter of the Blake family. The news had been online since that night.
She went through the comments, which were a mix of positive and negative, with the negative comments outnumbering the positive ones. It was strange how the negative comments came from fake social media accounts.
"She’s really beautiful."
"But I hate that Alexander Kane married her instead of someone popular in the elite world."
"Me too. She might be a Blake, but who knows if she’s an illegitimate child."
"I wish she had a social media account. I would have gone to her account and dragged her for daring to marry our cold-hearted Prince Charming."
"I prefer that he’s single," one user commented with a gray emoji.
"Yes, me too. That way, we could continue watching the ladies in high and low society fight over him."
"They will still fight over him. I’m sure they got married for business purposes, and soon Alexander will divorce her because we all know he dislikes women."
Jacob had asked if he should remove the news and the hate comments online, but she had told him not to bother since it wouldn’t stop people from talking. Her grandfather hadn’t contacted her since that night, indicating he was still angry with her.
Even though she had been indoors, she kept in touch with Michael and Jacob to monitor Bella and Celine’s actions. So far, they had paid people to write negative comments about her on social media.
Lilly went offline, picked up her bags, and headed to the ground floor. When she arrived, she was surprised to see two bodyguards near the entrance.
Lilly raised an eyebrow. Alexander had left for the office before she woke up, so why were the guards inside the house?
Ignoring it, she tried to leave but was stopped by the guards.
Lilly frowned. "What is the meaning of this?"
"The boss commanded that we ensure you don’t step out of the house."
She had been indoors for days, and on the first day she decided to go out, he instructed them to stop her?
