Chapter 32
What did her grandfather mean when he said she did not know the kind of man she married? What was it about Alexander that she was unaware of? From the way things looked, it seemed the two men were quite acquainted with each other.
"Lilly, you need to make a smart choice and stay," Caleb advised his granddaughter.
Lilly glanced at her grandfather and then at Alexander. "Can I stay tonight and return tomorrow?"
"No," Alexander replied, taking her hand and leading her out.
Lilly looked back at her grandfather and saw the disappointment and anger on his face.
Outside the mansion, James was still lounging in the car, with guards standing ready with guns, waiting for any signal from their boss to act.
A car drove into the premises, and Peter, along with his wife and daughter, stepped out, surprised by the scene.
"What is happening here?" Peter asked James.
"Alexander is here to retrieve his wife."
"I understand that, but what is with all the commotion?" Peter looked at the armed guards.
"They're just doing their duty to protect their boss."
James had just finished speaking when Alexander emerged from the house with Lilly.
Kate noticed how Alexander held her hand as they walked to his car.
"Lilly," Peter called out.
Lilly slowed her pace, causing Alexander to stop. "Get in the car," Alexander ordered.
"Just a minute," she said to him and walked towards where her father, Bella, and Kate were standing. She addressed them, "I just want you to know that I'm back, and you know what that means, right?" She directed her statement at Bella and Kate, who both raised their eyebrows, understanding her implication.
"Lilly, I'm glad you're back; we were worried," Bella said.
Lilly smiled, "If you were worried before, you should be even more worried now," she said, smiling before returning to Alexander's car.
Alexander glanced at the three of them before getting into the car and instructing the driver to leave.
James got into his car and followed them.
Peter watched as their cars and the others drove away from the premises.
Kate clenched her fists and stormed into the house, with Bella following closely behind.
Once in her room, Kate wasted no time in throwing things off her dressing table. "I'm so furious right now, Mother! If Alexander hadn't been there, I would have slapped her! I can't believe she dared to threaten us! She should wait and see how she'll join her sisters soon."
"Shush, lower your voice," Bella hushed her.
Kate tried to calm down. "I hate her, Mother. I hate that she's back in our lives. She's challenging me on all fronts. I can't believe she married Alexander! She must have known I liked him and is trying to get under my skin!"
"Relax," Bella said, sitting on the couch and thinking. "Alexander doesn't like women, so how did he end up marrying Lilly?"
Kate paused and looked at her mother. "That's true. How did he marry her?"
"And how did they meet? Alexander was so shocked to learn she's a Blake, so they must have met and married under different circumstances."
"Exactly," Kate agreed. "What I need to know now is how they met and why he married her. Something isn't right."
"Don't worry about it. I'll find out everything she's been up to for the past two years. All I need you to do is focus on your role as CEO and act normal around her."
"That will be hard, Mother. I despise her."
Bella stood up, walked over to her daughter, and held her hand. "You just have to do it. I'll handle her. Leave her to me. I promise she will soon be out of our lives."
Kate smiled and nodded. "Okay, Mother."

The drive back home was so quiet that Lilly tried several times to talk to Alexander and explain herself, but he ignored her, only saying that she was a liar and a deceiver and that he would surely divorce her after she gave birth to his child. She could feel his anger.
She had received text messages from Michael, Jacob, and Sarah, and had told them she would explain everything later. She looked at Alexander and saw him typing quickly on his phone, his face cold.
As she looked at him, she couldn't help but think back to what her grandfather had said about not knowing the kind of man Alexander was. What did she not know? She couldn't stop thinking about it.
When they arrived home, it was already 2 a.m. It had been a long day, and she was exhausted, but she knew she wouldn't rest until she explained herself to Alexander.
Alexander was the first to leave the car and head inside, with Lilly following behind.
"Welcome back home, sir," Clara greeted, but received no response.
"Welcome back, ma'am," Clara greeted when she saw Lilly.
"Thank you, Clara," Lilly managed to smile before walking past Clara and following Alexander into the elevator.
Lilly stopped the elevator door from closing and got in quickly before it started moving up. She looked at Alexander, and with the murderous look on his face, she dared not say a word. She decided to wait until they were in the room to say what she wanted to.
As soon as they got into the room, she spoke up. "I'm sorry I lied about who I am. I should have told you, but I had already created a fake identity."
"You're a liar and a deceiver," Alexander said, taking long strides towards her. "If you knew I was taking you to the banquet, why didn't you tell me? And why did you need to hide from your family?"
"I should have told you before the banquet, and I'm sorry. I was worried about many things. I hid from my family because two years ago, when my sisters and I returned from another country, they were murdered, and I was the next target. That's why I needed to stay hidden and keep my identity secret. Then we met, and the marriage proposal came suddenly. It was the wrong time to reveal who I was."
Alexander had assumed she married him for financial gain, thinking she came from a poor background. But after discovering she was not just a Blake but the heir to the Blake empire, he realized there was another reason she wanted to marry him and sign a contract, even having his child.
"You didn't marry me for money. Why did you enter into this marriage?" Alexander asked.
Lilly hadn't expected this question. How was she supposed to respond?
Seeing her reluctance to speak, Alexander grabbed her wrist tightly, making her wince in pain.
"You're hurting me."
"You better tell me the truth. No more lies. If you lie again, you'll regret it," he threatened with a dark expression.
Lilly swallowed. How was she supposed to tell him she married him because she loved him and wanted to spend her life with him?
