Chapter 128
Sarah wished she could understand what was going through Lily's mind at that moment. Lily simply watched Sarah in silence as she spoke.
"I think I’ve rested enough. I need to go see Angela," Lily finally said.
Sarah nodded and helped her out of bed, holding the IV stand steady. She opened the door, and together they walked out of the room. Sarah guided Lily to the VIP section of the ICU. The moment Lily saw Angela through the glass, tears immediately began to stream down her face. It was heartbreaking to see Angela in such a critical state.
Angela was on full life support, and if it were removed, she wouldn’t survive more than a few moments. Lily placed her hand on the glass, allowing her tears to fall. "I’m so sorry, Angela. This is all my fault. But don’t worry, whoever is responsible for this will pay for it."
"If it’s who I think it is, I swear I’ll deal with her myself," Lily whispered, her voice trembling with anger. She had already set a trap for Ariana, and if she was behind this, Lily was ready to finish her off.
"I promise you, Angela, whoever did this will suffer. Just get better," Lily added. She wanted to go inside and speak to Angela, but knew she couldn't because of her own health condition.
"You look terrifying right now," Sarah admitted, noticing the anger and fury etched across Lily’s face.
Lily turned to Sarah. "I need you to call Jacob for me."
Sensing that Lily might be planning something drastic, Sarah quickly tried to dissuade her.
"Alexander is already handling everything. Why not focus on getting better?"
"No, let him do what he needs to, but I have my own plans. And listen carefully, you’re not to tell Alexander or anyone else, including Anthony."
Sarah sighed. "You’re warning me, and I don’t even know what your plan is."
"You’ll find out soon enough. But for now, promise me you won’t say a word."
"I promise," Sarah reluctantly agreed.
"Thank you, Sarah," Lily whispered.
Meanwhile, Alexander was at the hospital, but instead of visiting Lily, he had only gone to see their daughter. On his way out, he stopped outside Lily’s door, just as he always did, but didn’t enter. As much as he longed to hold her, kiss her, and thank her for surviving, his anger still burned. Her defiance had caused everything that happened.
"How is she doing?" Alexander asked one of the guards outside her room.
The guard hesitated, nervous. He had been ordered to keep Lily in her room but had failed to stop her from leaving.
"I asked you a question," Alexander pressed, his voice growing sharp.
"She... she left with her friend, sir," the guard stammered.
"She’s not fully recovered, and she’s already wandering around? Where did she go?" Alexander demanded.
"To the ICU, sir... to see her friend," the guard replied nervously.
Alexander shot him an icy glare before walking away. The guards trembled under his gaze.
After spending some time with Angela, Lily headed back to her room with Sarah. As they walked, they saw Alexander approaching. Lily’s heart raced, but she kept her composure. His expression was so intense it could burn through someone’s soul.
He stopped close to her, and she could smell his familiar, intoxicating scent. She longed to hug him, rest her head on his chest. She missed him terribly and craved his presence.
"Alexander..."
"Shush, I don’t want to hear anything," he interrupted.
"But I—"
"Why did you leave your room?" he asked coldly.
"I went to see Angela."
"You shouldn’t be leaving your room when you’re still recovering," he said, glancing at her bandaged hand, his frown deepening.
"I know. I’m heading back now," Lily replied softly.
Alexander watched her walk away.
"Please take care of her," he said to Sarah.
"I will, but only if you promise you won’t let this go on forever. You two need to get back to being the loving couple you used to be," Sarah urged.
"That’ll happen once she’s learned her lesson," Alexander said firmly. He was determined to find out who was responsible for the accident and see that they paid, but Lily would also face her own consequences.
"You’ll suffer too," Sarah sighed.
Alexander gave her a sidelong glance before walking away. Sarah shook her head and followed Lily back to her room.
As Alexander made his way out of the hospital, he encountered Anthony by the elevator.
"There are reporters outside waiting for you. If you don’t want to deal with them, we can take the underground garage," Anthony suggested.
"No, I’ll talk to them," Alexander replied.
"Why? What are you planning to say?" Anthony asked, surprised.
"You asked if I wanted to speak to them, didn’t you?"
"Yeah, but I didn’t think you’d actually agree. So what are you going to say?" Anthony pressed.
Alexander stopped walking and turned to him. "If I don’t address them, they’ll keep showing up at the hospital. You know how reporters are—they won’t stop until they get answers."
"Fine, but the public’s reaction won’t be pleasant."
"I don’t care. My priority is to make sure the reporters stop coming here."
"And you think they’ll all just stop?"
"The fewer, the better. I haven’t caught the person responsible yet, but whoever it is tried to kill Lily and Viola. Whoever did this will want to finish the job, and when they try, I’ll be ready to catch them in the act."
At Aurora City’s International Airport, Ariana arrived with her assistant and got into a waiting car.
"Should I take you home, ma’am?" the assistant asked.
"No, head to Bright Hospital," Ariana replied with a smile. She needed to see for herself whether Lily had survived.
Back in Lily’s VIP room at the hospital, she received a call. "She’s in the country now?" the caller asked.
"Yes, and she’s heading to the hospital as we speak," Lily confirmed before hanging up. She was ready to see what Ariana would do, knowing her plan to kill her had failed.
Lily had already spoken to Jacob, and it was confirmed that Ariana was responsible for the attack. There was evidence, but Lily wasn’t ready to hand it over to Alexander just yet. She wanted to deal with Ariana herself.
