Chapter 53

"My heart is at ease now that you and the baby are alright. It's terrible what happened to Sandra," Sarah said, covering Lilly properly and sitting next to him on the bed. She had rushed to the hospital as soon as she heard Lilly had woken up the day before.

"I was the intended target, but they hit her, thinking she was me," Lilly replied.

"I'm sure it was Bella and Kate," Sarah speculated.

"Kate came to my office earlier that day, spewing nonsense, and then later the accident occurred."

"If I get my hands on her, she'll regret it. She and that wicked mother of hers," Sarah said, gritting her teeth.

"They'll pay for everything they've done. It won't be long before they're behind bars," Lilly vowed.

Sarah nodded. "You should let your grandfather know, Lilly. He'll be shocked when he sees the news."

Lilly planned to make Bella and Kate confess to their crimes and broadcast it live for the world to see. It wouldn't be right for his grandfather to find out the same way as everyone else.

"You're right. Alexander said the same thing earlier, so I'll prepare to tell him when he comes or visits tomorrow."

"I can't wait for all this to be over and for Sandra to recover."

"Me too," Sarah agreed.

"By the way," Lilly looked around the room, "Why aren't Jacob and Michael here to see me? Don't they know I've woken up?" Lilly sounded annoyed.

Sarah coughed. "Well..."

"What?" Lilly noticed something in Sarah's expression.

Sarah smiled. "You didn't tell me Alexander was the jealous type," she beamed.

"Huh?" Lilly was confused.

"He instructed that Jacob and Michael not be allowed to see you. They came with me to see you when you woke up, but they weren't permitted."

Lilly was shocked. "Are you serious?"

Sarah nodded. "Michael and Alexander had an altercation the second day you were hospitalized."

Lilly widened his eyes. "You're serious?"

Sarah nodded. "I'm not joking. It was serious, and if Alexander hadn't restrained himself, he would have seriously hurt Michael. I think he held back because he knew you wouldn't be happy waking up to hear that something had happened to Michael."

Lilly had to sit up in bed.

"Be careful," Sarah said, adjusting his drip.

"Tell me everything that happened," Lilly demanded.

Sarah explained how the three of them rushed to the hospital when they heard what happened. Alexander's guards had stopped them from coming in to see Lilly. Alexander came out of the VIP room and saw them standing outside. He allowed Sarah in, but not Jacob and Michael, saying they weren't needed. Michael got angry, insisting he had the right to see his friend, which started the altercation.

"Michael told Alexander that he's been in your life longer and knows you better. That made Alexander angry, and he had his guards throw Michael and Jacob out of the hospital, even though Jacob hadn't said or done anything."

By the time Sarah finished, Lilly's mouth was wide open in shock. "I didn't think Alexander would do that."

Sarah almost laughed at Lilly's flabbergasted expression. "Now that he finally has feelings for you, you'll see a side of him you never knew existed. There's a lot about Alexander that you'll discover. He'll be the overprotective and jealous husband. Based on his past experiences, especially with what happened to his dad, he won't want any man close to you," Sarah explained.

"Yes, I don't want any man close to you," Alexander declared.

Sarah had left, and Alexander returned to the hospital to see Lilly in the evening.

Lilly opened his mouth to speak but found no words. When Alexander arrived, he questioned him about not allowing Jacob and Michael to see him.

"They are close friends and like family. Jacob works for me and is now like family, so they have the right to see me," Lilly said, sensing Alexander's mood shift.

"You shouldn't have male friends," Alexander replied.

Lilly was speechless. Sarah was right; he was seeing a side of Alexander he never knew existed. He didn't think Alexander would be insecure.

"But they are family," Lilly said, hoping Alexander would agree.

Alexander stared into his eyes with an emotionless look.

Lilly waited for him to agree.

"Fine, they can see you," Alexander finally said.

Lilly smiled happily and hugged him. Truthfully, he had butterflies in his stomach seeing how jealous Alexander could be.

Alexander wrapped his arms around Lilly. "You will be discharged tomorrow."

"Really?"

"Yes, we'll go home tomorrow after spending some time with Sandra."

Lilly disengaged from the hug and looked at him.

"What is it?" Alexander asked, noticing the look on Lilly's face.

"I want to see my grandfather tomorrow before we go home."

"Why do you want to do that? He can come to visit you since you're the one who is sick," Alexander said.

"I need to tell him, Alexander."

Alexander quickly realized what Lilly meant. "You've decided to tell him?"

Lilly nodded. "Yes, their crimes will be exposed soon, so I should tell him before he finds out from the media."

"What about your father? Won't you forgive him?" Alexander knew Lilly's father loved him and was remorseful for the past.

"I want him to be more remorseful," Lilly said seriously. "I want him to see how much he destroyed his own family and lost two of his children because of it. Then I'll forgive him."

Alexander stared at Lilly in silence, his mind drifting back to 16 years ago when his own mother destroyed her family and caused his father's death. Alexander clenched his fists, remembering the pain. There was no way he would ever forgive his mother for what she had done.

Seeing Alexander lost in thought, Lilly could tell what he was thinking. Talking about his father must have reminded Alexander of his mother and all she did.

"Alexander," Lilly said, holding his hand, "I hope one day you'll open up to me. Tell me what bothers you so much." Lilly already knew but wanted Alexander to open up. Sometimes he wondered where Alexander's mother was, if she was alive or dead, as no one dared to mention her whereabouts.

Alexander stared at Lilly, saying nothing.

After a few minutes of silence, Alexander leaned in and kissed Lilly's forehead. "It's getting late; you should sleep."

Lilly nodded. "But you need to sleep too. You haven't slept for days."

"Okay, but only if you give me a kiss."

Lilly smiled, leaning in to kiss Alexander without hesitation. Alexander wrapped his arms around Lilly's waist, deepening the kiss.

In one of the most secure female prisons in the country, a woman sat in a cell, holding a business magazine. She stared at a picture of Alexander on the cover. In the corner of her bed were many other past and present newspapers and magazines featuring Alexander. Her dark eyes and some facial features were similar to Alexander's. "You've grown up well, Alexander," she said, touching his photo and smiling.
