Chapter 126

The day before the accident, Ariana was busy moving items from her suitcase into her luggage.

Her mother, Carolina, entered the room and immediately questioned her. “Why are you packing? Where do you think you’re going, young lady?”

“It’s for a work trip,” Ariana replied without looking up.

“What work trip?” Carolina demanded. As a company executive, she was well aware of all business activities.

“If you don’t believe me, feel free to ask my secretary,” Ariana responded, still focused on packing.

Carolina pressed further. “Where are you headed to?”

Frustrated, Ariana paused, turned to her mother, and repeated, “I just told you, I’m going on a business trip!”

“To where?” Carolina asked again.

“Mother, if you’re so curious, ask my secretary! I’m tired of explaining this to you.”

“You’re not even supposed to be going on this trip. One of your subordinates was assigned to it. So why are you going in their place?” Carolina wasn’t backing down.

“Why do you care so much, Mother?” Ariana shot back.

Carolina’s voice softened, but her concern was clear. “I care because I know you. You’ve been up to a lot lately, and I’m worried this is just another one of your schemes.”

Ariana stopped packing again, this time more composed. “I’m not scheming anymore, Mother. I’ve decided to let Alexander and Lilly be. I’m hurt, and this trip is my way of moving forward. Isn’t that what you’ve always wanted? Now, please, can I finish packing in peace?”

Carolina, feeling somewhat reassured, nodded and left the room. If Ariana truly intended to move on, Carolina thought it best to leave her be.

Once her bags were packed, Ariana dressed and headed to the airport. Soon, she was on her way to Europe. But the moment she landed the next day, she made a call to her associates back in her home country.

“I don’t care how you make it happen, but I want Lilly dead in an accident. Find any opportunity,” Ariana instructed coldly.

The leader of the group responded immediately. “Understood, ma’am.”

As she hung up, Ariana muttered under her breath, “I’m sorry, Mother, but I haven’t moved on.”

A few hours later, having settled into her European residence, her phone rang again. It was the gang leader with an update.

“Ma’am, we’ve found the perfect chance,” he reported.

Ariana’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction. “Already?” She hadn’t expected such swift progress.

“Yes, ma’am. Right now, Lilly is getting into an SUV with her daughter and another woman. We’ll be killing two birds with one stone,” the gang leader said, grinning at the prospect.

Ariana’s smile grew wider. “Good. I don’t care how many guards are with her, make sure the trucks hit them hard. If they survive the crash, finish them off. And don’t expect the rest of your payment unless the job is done.”

“Don’t worry, ma’am. We’ll handle it,” the leader assured her.

Ending the call, Ariana grinned. “In a few days, I’ll be back for your funeral, Lilly.”

Everything was proceeding according to her plan, carefully crafted in just 48 hours. There was no way this could fail.

As the gang carried out her orders, the impact of the crash was devastating. Their vehicles collided with the SUV so violently that it flipped over. Two of the gang members stepped out with guns, ready to finish off the survivors. But before they could act, gunshots rang out from the SUV’s security team. Realizing they were outnumbered, the attackers retreated and fled in a nearby getaway car.

Some of the guards chased after the attackers, while others rushed to the wreckage to save Lilly, her daughter, and the other woman.

Meanwhile, Alexander, Lilly’s husband, received the news at work. The shock almost caused him to collapse, but his assistant caught him. Shoving the man aside, Alexander bolted from the office and sped to the hospital where his wife and daughter had been taken.

The whole city was gripped by the news of the crash. Crowds gathered to watch live reports, while Ariana, from her distant location, sat watching the same reports, pleased with herself.

“What I want to hear now is that you and your child are dead, Lilly,” she muttered as the broadcast continued. She had orchestrated the whole thing so carefully that no one would suspect her involvement.

Ten hours passed.

Outside the hospital, reporters swarmed, eager for any updates on the survivors of the horrific accident. The headline read: “Alexander Kane’s Wife and Child Involved in a Tragic Crash.”

Inside the VIP intensive care unit, Lilly’s family and friends waited anxiously. Caleb, a close family friend, stood near the ICU window, looking in at the bandaged figure lying on the hospital bed—Lilly. The crash had left her severely injured, hooked up to machines that were keeping her alive. Alexander sat beside her, his expression unreadable, his emotions buried.

Caleb observed Alexander and couldn’t tell what was going through his mind, but he knew the accident had deeply affected him.

Staring at his mother, Alexander muttered, “You never listen. I told you to leave the country once you were released from prison, but you refused. And now look where your stubbornness has gotten you.”

His voice hardened. “I wasn’t going to let you see Viola, not until I decided the time was right. But now...”

Alexander’s anger boiled over, and after sitting there for a while, he got up and left the room. Outside, Caleb, still by the window, spoke to him.

“If it weren’t for your mother, your wife and daughter wouldn’t have survived. She shielded them in the crash.”

Alexander said nothing, his face a mask.

Caleb continued, “When they brought her in, I didn’t think she’d survive, but she’s still breathing. When she wakes up, you should consider giving her a second chance. She deserves it.” With that, Caleb walked away, relieved that Lilly and Viola had been spared.

Alexander was lost in thought when Ethan, one of his men, rushed up, breathless.

“What’s wrong?” Alexander asked.

“There’s good news and bad news. Which do you want first?” Ethan asked nervously.

Alexander glared. “Speak.”

Ethan quickly responded, “The bad news is the attackers were captured, but they took poison and died before we could interrogate them.”

Alexander clenched his fists. “And the good news?”

“The good news is we’ve tracked down the leader of the gang. We’ll have him soon, and he should know who ordered the hit.”

Alexander’s expression remained icy. “Then why are you still here?”

Ethan stammered, “I...I came to report—”

“Don’t show your face to me again until you’ve caught him,” Alexander snapped.

Ethan nodded and hurried away, determined not to return empty-handed.
