Chapter 92
Five years ago, when she left him, Antony had become obsessed with finding her. Despite his expertise in tracking down people no matter how well they hide, he couldn't locate the woman he loved deeply. Sarah had concealed herself perfectly, fully aware of his abilities after being with him for two years. She knew exactly how to stay hidden from him.
Now, here she was, standing before him, more stunning than ever. There was no chance he would let her slip away again. Coming to Country A turned out to be the best decision he had made, and he owed Alexander for it since it led him to his lost love.
After a prolonged silence where they simply gazed at each other, Antony finally spoke.
"I'm relieved to find you here, Sarah," he said softly.
"Antony, what do you want?" she asked.
"What do I want? Is that what you say to someone you haven't seen in five years, someone you ran away from?" The pain of her leaving still stung every time he recalled it.
Sarah bit her lip. "It's been five years, let’s just move on..."
"Quiet!" Antony interrupted, his voice raised.
Everyone around them, including Michael and Ethan, turned to see Sarah talking to Antony. Did they know each other?
Michael wanted to step in to protect Sarah from Antony but was stopped by Jacob.
"Why are you holding me back?"
"What exactly do you think you're going to do?"
"Can't you see how he's yelling at her?" Michael said.
"Can't you see that they clearly know each other?" Jacob replied.
Michael looked at the two, "Okay, they seem familiar with each other, but how does she know someone like him?"
"We’ll find out, but for now, let's just observe."
"What if he does something to her? Aren't you worried about that?"
"He won't. Look beyond the anger; there's concern in his eyes, like he’s hurt."
Michael studied Antony closely, but all he saw was anger. "I don’t see it, just anger."
"Well, I do. He cares about her. They must have a history. Antony is similar to Alexander; hard to read, but deeply caring."
"So now you’re a psychologist?"
"No, just good at seeing what others miss."
Michael nodded. "Alright then, let's stay close in case anything happens."
"In the last five years, were you able to move on? So why should I?" Antony asked.
"I have moved on. I have a good job as a detective in G City."
"I don’t care; you need to come home with me, Sarah."
"Home? What home? Did we ever have one?"
Antony's face grew cold. "Yes, we did, and it’s time for you to return!"
"Your home, with all your family members—do you call that our home?" Sarah's eyes welled up as she thought about the past. She had lived on Antony's family estate, where, despite his own mansion, she constantly faced his family and their meddling in their relationship.
Antony moved closer, wiping away her tears. "Please, don’t cry. I’m sorry."
"You're sorry?"
"Yes, I'm sorry I didn't see what was happening then." Sarah stepped back from him. "I need to take care of Lilly, so leave me alone," she said, turning and walking away.
Antony watched her go, determined never to lose her again.
Sarah entered Lilly's medical van, making sure her tears were gone before she did. She approached Lilly, who lay unconscious on the bed, tended by a nurse.
"Ma'am, you're not supposed to be here," the nurse said.
"I was told to look after her."
"Okay, if you say so. I’ll leave now," the nurse said before exiting the van.
Sarah sat beside Lilly, gazing at her pale face. "I don’t know what you went through, but please wake up soon. There’s something I need to tell you," she murmured.
Meanwhile, Antony entered another van where Alexander was.
"How’s your injury?"
"It’s fine."
"Good," Antony said as he sat across from him. "I need to thank you."
Alexander looked up. "For what?"
"For being here."
Alexander furrowed his brow. "I should be thanking you. If it weren’t for your help, I’d have been burned alive trying to save Lilly from that fire. So, I should be thanking you, Antony," he said sincerely. He wasn't one to express gratitude, believing people should do their jobs, but this was different—this was about saving his family.
Antony was surprised by the heartfelt thanks but understood why. He had been shocked when he learned that Alexander had married and had a child. He never imagined that the cold-hearted man would settle down.
"But I’m glad you asked for my help. Coming here was the best decision I’ve made in years. If I hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have found her," Antony said.
"Found her?" Alexander knew who he meant—the woman Antony had been searching for the past five years. The one he loved and had wanted to marry before she left.
If Alexander remembered correctly, her disappearance was the only thing that had ever broken Antony's heart. Alexander hadn’t understood his pain then, but he did now, having experienced the same fear when Lilly disappeared in the mountains.
"Is she here?" Alexander asked.
"Yes," Antony nodded.
"Someone I know?"
"Yes, very close to your family, very close to Lilly."
Alexander thought for a moment and one name came to mind. "You mean Sarah?"
"Yes."
"You mean Sarah is the woman who left you five years ago?"
"It’s shocking, right? But yes, it’s her."
"She’s good at hiding," Alexander said. There was no one in the world Antony couldn’t find—except Sarah.
"Yes, she is. She learned from the best," Antony smiled.
Alexander shook his head. "So, what are you going to do now?"
"What do you think? I’m taking her back to G City."
"Sarah is doing well here. She’s a detective in G City. Would she want to leave, especially after what your family did to her?" Alexander asked.
He knew what had driven the woman away but never expected it to be Sarah.
Antony clenched his fists. "I only found out what they did after she left. If I’d known sooner, I would have made sure she stayed. By now, we’d be married with children." His fists tightened.
"I’m taking Sarah back. She’ll wear the engagement ring I bought five years ago, and we’ll marry as soon as possible."
"What if she doesn’t want to?" Alexander might not have cared about Antony’s plans, but Sarah was Lilly’s friend.
Antony frowned, giving Alexander a stern look before leaning in. "Don’t interfere in my business. Focus on your own family and getting justice for them. I’ll take care of Sarah. Whether she likes it or not, she’s coming back with me to G City tomorrow morning."
Alexander gave him an unreadable look before nodding. "Okay."
Antony stood up. "Thanks again. If it weren’t for coming here, I wouldn’t have found her. Tell Lilly I promise to take care of her friend and give her everything she deserves," he said before leaving the van.
Alexander only nodded and smiled. He wouldn’t interfere because if he were in Antony’s shoes, he’d do the same, crushing anyone who stood in the way of being with the one he loved.
