Chapter 49
After Kate departed, Lilly's heart remained troubled, sensing that Kate had a specific purpose for coming. Every day, Lilly's anger grew for allowing these criminals to walk free. She had already informed Alexander about everything and provided all the proof, including the assassin's location. Soon, Kate and her mother would be unable to move about freely, and their plans would fail. Earlier that day, Alexander had increased the estate's security and added more guards to protect her.
After finishing work at the company, Lilly headed out for her lunch date with Sandra. She had developed a good relationship with Alexander's sister, and they had become very close.
"Sister-in-law!" Sandra approached and hugged her.
Lilly smiled and hugged her back. "Have you been waiting long?"
"Yes, for two hours," Sandra said.
Lilly gasped. "Really?"
Sandra smiled. "No, I'm just kidding."
Lilly sighed in relief.
Sandra linked arms with her. "Let's go have a big lunch, then we can go shopping and maybe see a movie later."
"Shopping?" Lilly asked.
"Yes," Sandra replied.
"But we just went shopping last time."
"We're going again," Sandra insisted.
"But... but..." They had shopped just a few days ago and bought lots of things they hadn't even used yet.
"No buts," Sandra said. "It's not like my brother is complaining."
"Did you forget he blocked all your cards last time?" Lilly reminded her. Alexander had joined the family business with his own company, significantly increasing his net worth overnight. He managed Sandra's inheritance since she wasn't responsible enough to handle it. Sandra spent so much that the last time they went shopping, she exceeded her limit, leading Alexander to block all her cards for a week. She had complained to their grandmother, who sided with Alexander, and then begged Lilly to intervene.
Lilly had also sided with Alexander and told Sandra to change her ways. After showing remorse, her cards were unblocked, but now she wanted to revert to her old habits.
Sandra bit her lip, recalling how she was penniless for a week. Not wanting to face her brother's wrath again, especially after he threatened serious consequences for overspending, she came up with another plan. She smiled widely and held Lilly's hand. "Sister-in-law, if that's the case, let's use your card."
Lilly sighed in frustration. Sandra was 22 years old but behaved like she was 18. "When will you ever change?"
"I promise to change after today's shopping trip," Sandra said.
"You always say that."
"I mean it this time," Sandra said sincerely.
Lilly looked into her eyes and saw her sincerity. "Promise?"
"I promise," Sandra replied.
"Fine, let's go."
"Yay!" Sandra exclaimed, dragging Lilly into an expensive restaurant. After a delicious lunch, they went to the mall and started shopping. Within an hour, they had bought many things.
Lilly was exhausted. "When are we going home?"
"After we get something for you and the baby," Sandra said excitedly. They went to a baby clothing store and bought outfits for both boys and girls, even though the baby wasn't born yet. Sandra then took Lilly to a store for expensive jewelry.
"Sister-in-law, you should spend your own money," Lilly said with a sigh. She already had a lot of jewelry and clothes she hadn't used, and now Sandra was adding more.
"Come here, sister-in-law. Look at these matching dresses," Sandra said. Lilly walked over and saw a beautiful outfit: a white skirt, white blouse, and dark jacket.
"It's pretty," Lilly admitted.
"Let's wear it," Sandra said.
"Huh?" Lilly was confused.
"Yes, I want to match outfits with you for once," Sandra pleaded.
"Oh no, we're not matching," Lilly said, shaking her head.
"Please, just this once," Sandra begged.
"No."
"Please."
"No."
"Please."
Lilly sighed. "You really know how to get what you want, don't you?"
Sandra smiled. "So is that a yes?"
"Alright, just this once," Lilly agreed.
"Yay! I love you," Sandra said, kissing her cheeks and dragging her into the dressing room. They both emerged wearing the same outfit and styled their hair similarly.
"Wow, we look like twins," Sandra said as they stood in front of a large mirror.
Lilly smiled. "We do."
After shopping, they went to the movie theater. They were protected by a sufficient number of bodyguards, and their activities were reported to Alexander. They chose a movie and enjoyed it together. People admired the two women, with some calling them twins.
After the two-hour movie, it was already 7 PM.
"Let's go for a walk in the park," Sandra suggested.
"It's late, Sandra. Let's head home. You can walk in the estate; it's big enough," Lilly said.
"Please," Sandra pouted, pointing to the park across the road.
Lilly looked at the park, which was crowded, and felt uneasy. "Let's just go home."
Sandra sighed. "Fine, but let me get ice cream first."
"We can get ice cream at home."
"It's just over there," Sandra insisted.
"Alright, I'm waiting," Lilly said, watching as Sandra went to the ice cream stand. She still felt uneasy but relaxed slightly, seeing the number of guards around them.
Two cars parked at different spots, not far from where they stood.
"Target in sight," the leader in the passenger seat of one car said into a phone.
"Should I proceed, boss?"
There was silence on the other end before a reply came. "Finish it."
"Right away, boss," the leader said, hanging up and dialing another number. "We have the green light."
Lilly was still standing outside, watching Sandra, when a car sped towards them.
Bang!
Nooooo!
Haaaaaa!
Blood was everywhere, and people screamed as they saw the horrifying scene, including the lifeless body on the ground.
