Chapter 127

Mrs. Martins was watching the news about the accident when her thoughts immediately turned to her daughter, Ariana. However, she quickly dismissed the idea that it could be her, as Ariana wasn’t in the country at the moment. To ease her mind, she called Ariana’s new assistant, whom she had personally hired to keep her updated on her daughter’s activities.

When the assistant picked up, Mrs. Martins got straight to the point, “Tell me everything my daughter has been doing since she arrived at her destination.”

She suspected only Ariana would be reckless enough to do something like this. Even though Ariana had told her she had moved on, Mrs. Martins still had doubts.

The assistant assured her that Ariana had been completely focused on work since arriving in Europe.

Feeling reassured, Mrs. Martins concluded the incident must have been the work of another of the Kane or Blake family's enemies.

After the call, the assistant informed Ariana about the conversation.

"Was that my mother?" Ariana asked.

"Yes, ma'am," replied the assistant.

"Did she ask the usual questions?"

"Exactly as you predicted."

Ariana smiled knowingly. She had anticipated her mother’s call. She was also aware that her mother had selected this assistant to spy on her. However, what Mrs. Martins didn’t know was that the assistant was loyal to Ariana and even handled her dirty work without question.

Her mother thought she was outsmarting her, but Ariana had been ahead of her all along. Everything was going according to plan, except for one unexpected detail: the elderly woman reported to be in the SUV during the accident. Who was she? If it hadn’t been for that woman, Ariana was certain Lilly and her daughter would be gone by now, and she would be celebrating.

The media had yet to report on whether the woman was alive or dead, or the condition of Lilly and Viola, but Ariana knew they weren’t dead yet—if they were, the news would have been everywhere by now. Still, she hoped they were in a critical state.

If it weren’t for the number of cars escorting Lilly’s SUV, her gang would have completed the job. But Ariana was determined to finish what she had started.

“Angela! Angela! Please don’t leave me! Stay with me!” Lilly sobbed, clinging to Angela. Her hands trembled as they became soaked with blood. “Angela!” she screamed, as the woman lost consciousness. Desperately, Lilly cried out for her to wake up.

In a hospital room, Lilly’s body lay restless. Sarah, sitting beside her, noticed her muttering Angela’s name and shedding tears while unconscious.

“Lilly, wake up. It’s just a dream,” Sarah said softly, trying to rouse her.

Lilly finally opened her eyes and looked around the sterile, white room. Seeing the IV in her hand, she slowly began to recall the accident. The memories came flooding back, and she clenched her fists tightly, prompting Sarah to gently wipe away the sweat from her brow.

“You’re going to hurt yourself if you keep doing that,” Sarah said gently, her voice filled with concern.

Hearing Sarah’s voice brought Lilly back to reality. She turned her head and saw the worry on her friend’s face. Sarah was visibly relieved. “Thank goodness you’re awake. We were all so worried,” Sarah said, hugging her and kissing her forehead, much like a mother would.

Lilly’s first question was immediate, “Where’s Angela?”

Sarah forced a smile, trying to hide her concern. Lilly had asked about Angela first because she had protected them during the crash, minimizing the impact.

“Is she okay?” Lilly pressed when Sarah hesitated to respond.

Sarah sighed, unable to lie. “She’s in critical condition.”

Tears welled up in Lilly’s eyes. “How bad is it?” she asked, gripping Sarah’s hand tightly.

“The doctors say her chances of survival are slim. She’s still in a coma.”

Lilly’s worst fears were confirmed. “I need to see her. Take me to her now.”

Sarah gently stopped her from trying to get up. “You can see her, but not right now. You need to rest, and the doctors need to check on you first.”

Lilly didn’t argue, knowing Sarah wouldn’t let her leave until the doctors had cleared her.

“Where’s Viola? Why isn’t she in here with me?” Lilly asked, noticing her daughter wasn’t in the room.

“She was here earlier, but Alexander moved her to the room across the hall. He’s with her right now,” Sarah explained.

Lilly nodded, understanding why Alexander had done that. He wouldn’t want Viola to see her mother in such a state, especially when she hadn’t woken up until now. Lilly’s left arm was heavily bandaged, and she wouldn’t want her daughter to witness that.

After the doctors checked on her and she rested, several visitors came to see her, including Grandma Helen, Sandra, her father, and her grandfather. Sandra spent the most time with her, even bringing Viola to see her. Lilly felt a huge sense of relief seeing that her daughter was unharmed, with only a few fading scratches.

It had been two days since Lilly had woken up, and everyone—Jacob, Michael, and others—had visited her. But Alexander had not, and it broke her heart.

Sarah, sitting nearby, could sense Lilly’s sadness. Everyone knew Alexander hadn’t visited, and it was well known that he had been upset with her before the accident.

Sarah had even asked Anthony to talk to Alexander, hoping his friend could convince him to visit. She reassured Lilly, “Don’t worry. He’ll come. He’s angry, but there’s no way he’ll stay mad at you for long.”

Lilly gave a small, sad smile. “I know him better than anyone. It’s been a week since the accident, and he’s still angry, even though Viola and I survived. It shows he’s not going to let this go until he feels like I’ve paid for my mistake. If I had just listened to him, none of this would’ve happened. Angela wouldn’t be in critical condition, and Viola wouldn’t have gone through this trauma.”

Lilly’s eyes filled with sadness. “Angela should’ve been in another country by now, starting a new life. Viola wouldn’t have had to endure this. First it was Kate, and now Ariana, trying to tear Alexander away from me.”

Sarah tried to console her. “One thing I know for sure is that Alexander loves you more than anything in this world. You should’ve seen how distraught he was when he saw your injuries. He’s just angry, but I know you two will get through this. And whoever is responsible for this—whether it’s Ariana or someone else—they will face the consequences.”
