Chapter 116
For the first time, Alexander was going to sit down and share a drink with his father-in-law, Peter Blake. After the court hearing the day before, Peter had asked if they could have dinner and drinks together, preferring a quiet location.
Alexander, who had access to many high-end restaurants, chose to reserve a spot at his newly built 15-star hotel since his father-in-law wanted somewhere peaceful. He selected a table with a view of the entire city from the 60th floor, a restaurant so exclusive that only the wealthiest could afford to dine there. This was where he would meet with Peter.
Peter was the first to arrive and was shown to the table. He took a seat and admired the breathtaking view. Alexander certainly had excellent taste. This hotel, located in the heart of the city, had garnered a lot of attention. Peter couldn’t help but acknowledge that his son-in-law was an astute businessman.
After just five minutes, Alexander arrived. He walked over to the table and nodded respectfully to his father-in-law. "Father," he greeted.
"Please, have a seat, Alexander," Peter replied.
Alexander sat down, and they promptly ordered. While waiting for their meal, Peter spoke up. "Is there a particular reason you wanted us to have dinner? What do you want to discuss?" Alexander inquired, knowing he had a lot of work waiting for him. Over the past three weeks, with Lily in prison, he had developed a routine—spending mornings with Viola, afternoons with Lily in her cell, and working late into the night at the office.
"With everything that's been happening, I thought this would be the right time for us to sit down and talk. Tell me, how are you handling all of this? I know it hasn’t been easy for you, Alexander. Sometimes you make choices I wouldn’t have made. You could have approached this situation differently, but you chose the right path."
"It hasn’t been easy," Alexander admitted.
"I know," Peter replied. "My father mentioned that you visit Lily in her cell every day. You really love her, don’t you?" Peter knew Alexander loved his daughter, but he wanted to hear it from him directly.
Alexander paused while pouring wine into his glass, glancing at his father-in-law. Was this some sort of test? Hadn’t his actions shown how much he loved Lily? "I do, more than you can imagine," he said, his voice firm. He loved Lily so deeply that he was willing to do anything for her. He had only been patient with the situation because Lily wanted to pursue the legal route.
Peter nodded, acknowledging Alexander’s words. "I know you do. Even with her in jail, accused of ordering the demolition, you’ve continued to trust her. I’m so grateful that my daughter found someone like you. I couldn’t have wished for a better man for her. I wish I had been half as good to her mother." He ended on a note of regret.
Alexander looked at Peter, realizing the sincerity in his words. "We should eat before the food gets cold," Alexander suggested.
Peter agreed.
After a few bites, Peter asked, "What will you do if things don’t go as planned? What if my daughter pleads guilty? How will you handle that?" He knew Lily was innocent but wanted to know how Alexander would respond in such a situation.
"I’ve only been patient because that’s what she wanted. If I had done things my way, she wouldn’t have ended up in jail. But she will never be found guilty because she is innocent, and everything has been prepared accordingly."
Peter nodded, saying nothing more. He wished he could be more like Alexander. If he had been, his life might have turned out differently. His wife would still be alive, and his two daughters would be as well. Alexander, who had endured a difficult childhood and once harbored a deep resentment towards women, had come to value family above all else. Peter knew Alexander was committed to doing everything he could to keep his family safe and together. If only Peter had done the same, perhaps he wouldn’t be so alone now.
After finishing their dinner, they moved to the bar area of the restaurant and shared a few drinks. Peter had to leave after receiving a call from his father, but Alexander stayed behind, continuing to drink. He had tried to avoid alcohol, but the suggestion to drink with his father-in-law had rekindled his craving, something he hadn’t indulged in for quite some time.
Alexander kept drinking until he was noticeably tipsy. One of the waitresses, who had been watching him from a distance, made a call to Ariana. Ariana had instructed her to keep an eye on Alexander at the restaurant. She had been waiting for the perfect opportunity to carry out her plan, and learning that Alexander was drunk presented her with the chance she had been seeking.
Ariana immediately drove to the hotel and headed to the floor where the restaurant was located. Disguised as a waitress, she managed to approach Alexander without raising suspicion among his guards.
She walked over to him with a tray holding another glass of wine. Alexander, without even glancing at the person who served him, drank it. In his normal state, he wouldn’t have accepted a drink from a stranger.
Ariana smiled in satisfaction as he drank it and quickly left before any of his guards could recognize her. She booked a room close to the presidential suite, knowing that Alexander, now heavily intoxicated and with something extra in his drink to induce deep sleep, would likely be taken there.
About two hours later, she received a call from one of the hotel staff, confirming that Alexander had been moved to the presidential suite. Ariana was thrilled; she was about to have the night of her life with him. Now all she needed to do was find a way into his suite.
After about thirty minutes, she sent the waitress to get the guards drunk. Once they were sufficiently distracted, Ariana sneaked into the room, which was completely dark with the lights turned off.
She slowly approached Alexander, who was sound asleep on the bed. Even though she knew how intoxicated he was, she still moved cautiously.
Ariana undressed and climbed into bed. This was her chance, and she wasn’t going to miss it for anything.
