Chapter 84

"Haha ha ha ha ha ha," Caleb laughed heartily when he heard what his granddaughter did. It never crossed his mind that she would do such a thing, but it was clever of her, and he felt proud seeing how she taught her husband a lesson. If he ever tried something funny with her, she would leave him. Although Caleb hadn't stopped Alexander from doing what he wanted, after finding out that he had sent his daughter to climb a mountain for hours, Caleb became furious and thought of ways to deal with the young man.

However, there would be no need for him to handle it, since his granddaughter had already done so. Every time she did something like this, Caleb felt more assured that he made the right choice in making her the heir to the family business. With the lesson she taught her husband, he wouldn’t dare try something like that again. She had shown him that if he treated her love as worthless, she would leave. This was how she would make good decisions in business as well.

"Father, did you hear the news?" Peter walked into the study room.

"Yes, Victor just told me that Lilly has been found, and it was all her doing. She taught her husband a good lesson," Caleb said proudly.

"Really? Is that all you have to say about the fact that she put everyone in a panic?" Peter couldn't believe his father.

Caleb looked at his son. "Yes, we were all afraid and worried that something bad had happened to her."

"And what about the part where you planned to retaliate? You were ready to attack your enemies, thinking they took your granddaughter. It seems you don’t realize the kind of problems her disappearance would have caused."

Caleb looked at his son with a calm expression. "Which is why she showed up after a day, because she didn’t want any of that to happen. If Lilly was thoughtless, she would have stayed hidden for days, but she knew what that would cause."

Peter walked out of the study and went to the garden to call Lilly.

Lilly was driving back home with Alexander when she got a call from her father. Victor must have given him her new number since she had just finished talking to him.

"Father."

"What were you thinking, Lilly? Did you know how worried we were?"

"I'm sorry, Father, that I made you worried, but it's all over now."

Peter sighed. "I just hope this will be the first and last time. You should know how your grandfather is and also how Alexander handles issues. Those men can be very ruthless. Just imagine how the whole city would have turned upside down if you hadn’t shown up. A lot of people would have been affected."

What her father said was true: a lot of people would have been affected if Alexander had decided to handle things more drastically. She looked at Alexander, who was driving with all his attention on the road. "I'm sorry, Father. There won't be a second time."

Peter sighed. "Please take care."

"I will." Lilly hung up the call.

Alexander didn't say anything regarding the call and just kept on driving.

They arrived home, and she went straight to Viola's room.

Viola was busy doing her homework with the help of her nanny when the room door was pushed open.

Her eyes went to the door, and she jumped up from her seat when she saw her mother.

"Mummy!!" she shouted excitedly as she ran to hug her mother.

Lilly picked her up and swung her around. "I missed my baby so much."

"I missed you too, Mummy."

Lilly planted kisses all over her face.

Viola jumped happily in her mother's arms. "Mummy," she looked at her mother.

"Yes, baby?"

"Can you please stop going on trips?" she said, revealing what had been on her mind for a long time.

Lilly nodded. "No more trips, baby, no more. Mummy is going to be here every day to read you bedtime stories. And if we ever go on a trip, it will be you, me, and Daddy together."

Viola jumped happily and kissed her mother's forehead. "Yay! I love you, Mummy!"

"Mummy loves you too."

Alexander stood close to the door and smiled at both of them. These two people were his everything, and he didn't want to lose either of them. He was ready to kill anyone who dared to hurt them.

The following day, the family of three had breakfast, and Alexander left first since he had a lot of meetings to attend in two branches of the company and was launching a new product.

Lilly and Viola left later, as she was going to drop Viola at school before heading to the office.

Other kids and parents who came to drop their children at school stared at the luxury car that drove into the school premises. They immediately knew the owner of the car since she was the only person who drove it in the whole city.

Alexander was very particular about cars, which is why he made sure that the car Lilly drove and the car that took Viola to school were the only ones of their kind in the entire country. This way, his wife and child would stand out from others.

The car stopped, and the bodyguard opened the back seat. Lilly stepped out first, and the other mothers who came to drop off their kids were in awe of her beauty. This wasn't the first time they had seen her, but every time they did, they were always astonished because she just got more beautiful and enchanting with each passing day, which explained why Alexander didn't joke about her.

Lilly helped her daughter get down from the car by holding her small hands. Viola got down and smiled adorably at her mother.

"Thank you, Mummy."

"You're welcome."

"Awww, she’s so polite," other parents admired her, which made their kids frown. Why would their parents admire another child instead of them?

Lilly kissed her on the cheek and on her forehead before handing her over to her teacher.

"Bye, Mummy."

"Bye, my baby. I will come to pick you up when you finish school."

"Okay." Viola was so happy; she couldn’t wait to go to her mother's company after school.

Lilly stood there and waited for her to get to the school building before turning to get into the car. That was when one of the socialite women who came to drop off her kid at school suddenly approached her.

"Good morning, Mrs. Kane," she greeted, making Lilly turn and look at her.

"Good morning," Lilly replied but didn't recognize who she was. Since returning to Country A and marrying Alexander, she hadn't mingled or hung out with other socialites because she knew how they behaved. Although she couldn’t place the woman standing in front of her, from the way she dressed and her temperament, Lilly knew she was one of those socialite women who always gossip and spread false rumors in her circle of friends.

"It's Mrs. Wilson," she smiled as she proudly called her husband's last name. Her husband's family owned chain stores around the country, so they were very rich and popular among the elites. She expected Lilly to know her husband's last name since she was someone in the business world and must have done business with him before, but the casual look on Lilly's face told her otherwise.

Lilly tried to recall the name, maybe she had heard it somewhere, but it didn't ring a bell. "Hi, Mrs. Wilson, is there anything I can do for you?" she asked politely.

Mrs. Wilson was disappointed but smiled to cover it up. "My child also attends this school and is in the same class as yours, so I was hoping we could get along, maybe hang out one of these days. What do you think?" she asked, anticipating her response.

Lilly smiled. "As much as I would love to hang out, I can’t because I am busy with so many things. You should know I run a company and how stressful it is. I don’t have time for things like that since I’m too busy."

Mrs. Wilson frowned inwardly. Was Lilly trying to say she was jobless? She scoffed inwardly. She didn’t think Mrs. Kane could be this proud. Although she came from a wealthy family and married into another rich one, what made her think she could act this way? She thought to herself and scoffed.

"Alright then," she pulled out her card and handed it to Lilly. "This is my business card. My number is there, so you can call me or come to my restaurant just in case you change your mind."

Lilly looked at the card and smiled. "Okay then, I will leave now." Mrs. Wilson had given her the card to show that she wasn’t jobless and ran an expensive restaurant. Lilly shook her head and smiled at her attitude.

Lilly got into the car, and the driver reversed before driving out of the school premises.

Mrs. Wilson stood and watched as the car drove off, then frowned. "Such a bitch." The truth was that almost all the young ladies in the elite world hated Lilly when they heard she was married to Alexander. Before they got married, they had all wanted to be Alexander's wife by any means necessary, doing all sorts of things to get his attention. They even debated among themselves who would win his heart. Alexander was the most sought-after bachelor at that time, so much so that some planned to drug him just to get into his bed. But the man was too tough and difficult, and he disliked every one of them, leading them to conclude he must be homosexual—until they heard the news that he was married on the day of the Lawrence family’s head birthday party three years ago.

Mrs. Wilson just wanted to get close to Lilly since doing so would benefit her and her husband in business.

As soon as Lilly's car was seen driving out of the school premises, another car was parked a short distance

away from the school.

Inside the vehicle sat a woman with a scarf and glasses on. Her eyes were fixed on the school with a deadly look on her face.

"Ma'am, are you sure we can do this today?"

"Today is the day. It has to be today," the young lady said.

"Alexander Kane’s people are scattered everywhere; they’re all around this place. Do you think we will succeed in taking the child?"

The young lady gave her subordinate a cold look. "Yes, this is something we have been planning for two years now, and today is just perfect. Yesterday would have been more ideal since he was busy looking for Lilly, but the man was too smart not to have sent his daughter to school yesterday. So it has to be today, and today it shall be," she said with all seriousness.

The only way to get back at them was to take what was most precious to them—their precious child.
