Chapter 47

"Surprise!!" As she entered the house, she was greeted enthusiastically. "Oh my," she smiled upon seeing everyone there, including her high school friends and some family friends.

"Welcome back, my granddaughter," Grandma Helen said.

"Grandma," Sandra instantly embraced her. "I missed you."

"I missed you too," she replied emotionally.

Lilly stood nearby, smiling at the scene. Sandra hugged her friends one by one and then some familiar faces until she approached Richard.

"Richard!"

"Sandra!"

They hugged warmly. Sandra also hugged Sophia, and when she reached Lilly, she paused and looked at the beautiful woman.

"Welcome home, Sandra," Lilly smiled.

Everyone watched, including Grandma Helen, who was eager to see if Sandra would take to her sister-in-law as they all did. After what felt like five minutes, Sandra smiled and hugged Lilly, catching her off guard. No one expected such a warm reaction on their first meeting.

Sandra stepped back and smiled again. "I never thought my cold-hearted brother had such a good eye for beauty," she commented, making Lilly smile.

"You’re stunning," Sandra complimented.

"Thank you, and so are you," Lilly replied.

Grandma Helen felt relieved that Sandra liked her sister-in-law immediately.

Sandra and Lilly engaged in conversation, getting to know each other better. Sandra was thrilled to learn she would be an aunt, expressing that it was the greatest gift Alexander could give her. "By the way, where is Alexander?" she asked.

"He'll be here soon," Lilly said, hoping it was true.

They all sat at the dining table to eat when Alexander arrived.

"Brother!" Sandra stood up to hug him as soon as he walked in. Lilly observed the siblings; Alexander hugged her back. Despite his stoic expression, it was clear he was happy to see her. Lilly smiled, appreciating the sibling bond. Alexander cared deeply for his family, and she could see that he would be just as devoted to their future family.

Sandra sat back down beside a friend while Alexander took a seat next to Lilly.

"I'm glad you made it," Lilly said to him.

Alexander nodded, his eyes lingering on her face. "Is something on my face?" she asked.

"Did you cry?"

"Huh? No," she replied, wondering why he asked. Could he still tell she'd cried earlier?

Alexander said nothing but continued to watch her. He had instructed her bodyguards to report all her activities, and he knew she had cried after talking to her father.

After dinner, they gathered in the living room with drinks. Sandra excitedly shared her European adventures and caught up with old friends. Grandma Helen smiled, happy to have both her grandchildren and Lilly together, surrounded by friends welcoming Sandra home.

Lilly rushed to the meeting place after getting a call from Michael and Jacob about locating the assassin.

"So, where is he?"

"If we are right, he is currently hiding in a small village in the western part of the country," Jacob said.

"How long will it take to get there?"

"The village is near City U, so we’ll need to get to the city, take a train to a nearby town, and then drive to the village."

"He has hidden himself well."

"Yes, but we finally found him. Now, we just need to catch him and make him confess his crimes and who sent him."

"I think it's time you tell Alexander. For the past two months, your relationship has improved, and he trusts you. If you hide this, you’ll lose that trust," Sarah said.

"Sarah’s right. Who knows what your stepmother is planning now that you're the vice president of the Blake empire. She’s definitely plotting something. Alexander has connections that could make the assassin confess, bringing justice for their deaths," Michael added.

That evening, when Lilly got home, she prepared to tell Alexander everything.

"Welcome home, young master," Clara greeted him.

Alexander looked around, surprised not to see Lilly welcoming him home as she usually did.

"Ma'am is already back home," Clara noted. Alexander walked away without a word, heading to her room on the second floor. After knocking and getting no response, he entered but didn’t find her there.

Suppressing the urge to move her back to his room, he thought about where she might be. Taking the elevator to the ground floor, he headed to the mini-library and found her reading.

Lilly turned around when she heard the door open, and seeing Alexander, she stood up and embraced him, resting her head on his chest.

"What are you doing here?" he asked.

"Waiting for you."

"In here? That’s new."

"I need to tell you something important," Lilly said, her expression serious.

"What is it?"

Lilly pulled back from the hug, looking at him with a sad expression. "Have a seat," she said, pointing to the couch. Alexander shut the door, took off his suit jacket, rolled up his sleeves, and sat down.

"Go ahead."

Lilly took a deep breath. "It's about my sisters' deaths."

"You said you were investigating but found nothing," Alexander said.

"Yes, but I actually found something. I know who killed them," she said emotionally.

Alexander furrowed his brow. "You do?"

"Yes."

"Who? And how long have you known?"

"My stepmother and stepsister, Kate."

Alexander’s mood darkened. "How long have you known this?"

"Two months after I went into hiding."

"And you’ve kept it to yourself, letting the murderers walk free!" Alexander half-yelled.

Lilly swallowed. "There wasn’t enough evidence. I needed solid proof for justice."

"Justice?"

"Why didn't you tell your grandfather from the start? Instead, you put yourself at risk!" He was furious, unable to understand why she kept it secret, letting the murderers roam free. Now, as vice president of the Blake empire, she was a target.

The thought of losing her made his heart boil. Despite his anger, seeing her cry silently softened him. He leaned close and wiped her tears. "Stop crying," he said, hugging her.

Lilly leaned into his chest, finding comfort in his presence.

"Tell me what you need me to do," Alexander said.

Lilly moved away slightly and looked him in the eye. "I need your help to make the killer confess."
