Her Broken Mate 36

Seth fell to his knees, his eyes wide. Incredulity overcame him, he didn't want to believe that the only person worth fighting for had died.

She can't be dead, she can't be! - he screamed in his head.

'What've I done to deserve this?'

No matter how many times Seth tried to deny it, the reality will always be there. Life goes on, with or without you. If you're left behind, then you're a retard.

He was ready to change and run, but that one sound gave him pause.

A beep.

But it wasn't just one beep, it was one after another. His body automatically jumped up, his head quickly whirling around to Sarah.

An agonized sob left him, and he was relieved to see the heartbeat monitor moving in waves. At the last minute, Sarah was revived with the dephibrilator.

The doctors cheered, tears stinging their eyes because their Luna was still alive.

The surgeon who'd stopped Seth earlier stood before him, his face weary. He seemed to know what Seth's questions were, because he spoke slowly, "The reason Luna Sarah eventually died was because her wolf held back her heat for so long. Holding it back for a period of time is fine, but over longer periods of time, it's deadly."

His eyes sent a quick glance to Sarah and then moved back to Seth, whom he warned with a matter-of-fact tone. "She should wake up soon, but we'd like to keep her here for a few more days to make sure she's okay. Is that okay, Alpha?"

Seth nodded at the information and the request, knowing it was for the best.

He bowed once more before scurrying away.

When Seth arrived at Sarah's side, all the doctors went about their own business.

As he looked at her face, Seth noticed that the color of her skin was returning. Her lips, which were blue before, were now rosy, and her hair was shining like it used to. These were all signs that her wolf was healing her and that she'd soon wake up.

He stared at her for hours, trying to remember each of her features. He waited for her to wake up soon.

'Why don't you just kiss her and get it over with?' Virus suggested abruptly.

That made him fall off his chair next to Sarah's bed. He scrambled to his feet and replied sheepishly, 'Don't make a fool of yourself! You shouldn't attack women while they're sleeping! That's no way to be a man!'

Virus just giggled, 'You can deny all you want, man. You're just scared because you've never kissed anyone. Don't worry, I've talked to Sarah's wolf, Thunder. She doesn't have any experience either, so I guess you two are a match.'

Seth didn't answer because he knew Virus was right, but Seth was glad to know that he'd be Sarah's first, just as she'd be for him. Being hated for nine years had its advantages, because no woman ever wanted to be around him.

Finally, Virus stopped teasing him and decided to cut the connection. Seth started to get tired and laid his head on the side of Sarah's hospital bed.

He put his hand on her slightly warm hands and was enveloped by darkness.

A caress on Seth's head made him startle, but he knew from the sparks that it was the one he'd been waiting for for the last six months.

Slowly, he lifted his head until his gaze landed on the soft brown eyes, and Sarah smiled at him.

He didn't know what to do or retort, all he could do was stare at her with his mouth open.

"Sarah... you're awake," he said, his whole being filled with happiness.

She stared at him blankly, her smile vanishing. "I'm sorry. I know we're in the same pack and I should respect you, but who exactly are you to me again? Where am I?"

Silence filled the room.

"... You don't know who I'm?" he said, his heart filled with sorrow.

She couldn't be serious. The doctors had said nothing about the possibility of amnesia.

Unless they'd missed something.

"No ... I'm sorry. I don't know," she replied.

Just as he was about to call the doctors, Sarah started cackling. "Oh my God, you should have seen the look on your face!"

He stood there stunned until he realized she'd played a joke on him.

He rolled his eyes and quickly moved closer to Sarah. "It's not funny, but I'll pretend to laugh. You almost scared me to death," he said, reprimanding her lightly. "Besides..." he paused and looked at her intently. "Why does your breath smell so minty? You've been asleep for six months. I was convinced I'd have passed out from your bad breath," he said, smiling heavily.

Sarah's face quickly turned red as she playfully frowned. "Well, I didn't want to talk to you before I brushed my teeth. It's a lot of work to smell and look this good," she said, putting her hands at her sides.

"Hmm, I guess I've to admit you're beautiful," he said, nodding his head dejectedly.

They burst into peals of laughter before silence fell again.

Finally, Sarah giggled before speaking, "Well? What're you waiting for? Come here."

He didn't know what came over him, but he felt he'd been waiting for those words.
He swallowed and rose from his chair. He fell back with a thud, and without further hesitation, he gently pulled her to him.

Sarah froze at the direct contact, but relaxed into his embrace and sighed contentedly.

His nose traveled to her neck and inhaled her scent. He tried to calm the beast inside him and struggled not to conquer her on the spot.

He let her go for a moment and chuckled.

She stared up at him in wonder.

His eyes turned black as he growled: "MINE!

As he breathed in her scent again, the beast in him calmed, his black eyes disappeared and he was himself again.

"We can proceed. I've been waiting for this for a long time." he said.

She laughed as she hugged him tighter.

They stayed like that, making up for lost time.

Finally he let go of her and leaned his forehead against hers. It surprised her, but she put her hand on the back of his neck. She let out a soft laugh, one she'd never tire of.

"When did you start talking again?" Sarah asked, concerned.

He shook his head and answered in a whisper, "Don't you remember? I can speak now. I was screaming for your name during the attack before you slipped into a six-month coma."

She gasped at the realization, and to her surprise, tears came. Startled and not knowing what to do, he blurted out, "Did I offend you in some way? Are you hurt? What's the matter?"

Sarah sniffles a little and laughs up, "No! I'm not upset or anything! I'm just happy...that you can talk again. Your voice is so deep and god, it sounds so addictive that... that I'd love to hear you talk all night."

Virus' ears perked up in response, sending dirty images into his head. Seth blocked them, however, knowing that the time wasn't yet ripe for that. He smiled at her response, glad for her reaction. "We can talk another time. But for now, let's get some sleep. You need rest," he suggested, tucking her back into bed.

She quickly shook her head, "I just slept for six months, and now you're telling me to sleep again? If we're going to sleep, come here. I want you to sleep next to me," she said, patting the spot next to her.

Giggling, he agreed to her terms. He turned off the light and slipped under the covers with his adorable mate. She rests her head on his chest, his arms wrapped around her. He kissed her on the forehead, and her goodnight sound echoed through the room.

Soon he heard her soft snoring. He smiled in response, glad to have her back in his arms where she belonged.

For the first time in six months, he fell asleep without nightmares.
