Her Broken Mate 16

"This is ridiculous! Jupiter has been in a coma for almost nine years, and suddenly he wakes up?" asked Sarah, her eyes narrowing with speculation.

Ryan heaved a heavy sigh, his eyes never leaving hers or Seth's, "We don't know, Sarah, but we'll know soon when Seth goes to the hospital to see him."

Emily nodded and quickly added, "Of course, when you're ready. We won't push you to go, but we really recommend you go see him, Alpha."

They all turned their attention to Seth, waiting for his decision. Surprisingly, Seth pursed his lips and nodded slightly.

Their jaws dropped to the floor, shock written all over their faces. Seth just tilted his head as if confused by their reactions. He looked like a lost puppy...

Thunder made a strange sound, a mixture of howling and purring, 'Can we finally go into heat? He's so cute.'

Sarah let out an awkward laugh, but it sounded more like a gasp. She deleted the dirty pictures Thunder was sending her and coughed, "I guess we'll go to the pack hospital then."

Everyone nodded at her suggestion.

Three words.

Seth. Major. Breakdown.

He was pacing back and forth in front of his father's door, wondering whether or not to enter the room. Hope filled her as his hand reached for the handle, but it evaporated when he dropped it.

Ryan groaned in annoyance, "Dude, we've been here for three hours and you still can't enter? You chose to come here, don't stop now."

Sarah glared dagger-like at Ryan, her fangs extended in a low growl. Knowing he'd crossed the line, he lowered his head and apologized, muttering Luna and Alpha.

Emily mocked him, whereupon Ryan went sulking into the corner.

Sarah had enough of the nonsense and strode over to Seth. She eyed him for a few moments before asking, "What's wrong?"

Seth took a deep breath, reached for his notepad, turned a page and quickly wrote in it. She glanced at his page, which read, 'What if he blames me for everything, like Mom did?'

She scoffed, "If he does, I'll rip his balls off and make him chew on them. Nobody hurts my husband because an insult to you is an insult to me."

Looking at his reaction, it was a terrible one. Seth seemed afraid of her, in a playful way. She grinned and shook her hair.

Finally, he smiled before giving her a curt nod. She could smell the determination emanating from him before he made a quick motion and turned the handle. The door opened slowly and made a creaking sound.

Seth gave Emily and Ryan a stern look that told them they were dismissed. They bowed their heads slightly and obeyed their alpha's request.

Sarah followed Seth as he took a step into the room and quietly closed the door. As he examined the room, he noticed machines beeping and many gifts scattered on the floor. Her gaze finally lingered on a man who was the spitting image of Seth. Except he looked much older and more tired.

As they entered, he stared into space until their scents entered his nostrils.

"Long time no see, Seth, Sarah," he greeted them in a low, brittle voice.

She didn't know what to say except to wave back awkwardly. Seth, on the other hand, just stood there stiffly, his eyes lowered to the floor. He was sweating, nervousness written all over his face.

Concern showed in Jupiter's eyes, "Son? Is that all you've to say to your father after so long? Don't you've to explain to me why Sarah is here with you?"

Seth shook his head, fists clenched.

Jupiter's gaze rested on her, searching for answers. She took a breath, this wasn't going to go well.

"I'm his mate," she answered slowly.

Joy lit up in the old man's eyes, "Oh yeah, wow, I've a daughter! That's a great way to wake up! I've so many things to tell you, Sarah."

Joy spread through her, knowing that Seth's father had accepted her. Then she remembered her question from earlier and considered asking it.

Finally she did, "Jupiter, how did you wake up?"

Jupiter looked puzzled, but gave her a small smile, "I felt the title of Alpha officially taken away from me. My wolf immediately sprang into action and woke me up. You know, when the Alpha finds his Luna, the title is snatched from the old couple who'd the titles."

That's awesome. She nodded at the information and bit the side of her cheek.

Wait a minute... if he woke up because he was stripped of the title... why didn't he wake up to stop Stella from abusing Seth?

What kind of bullshit is that?

'This is beyond... ridiculous.' Thunder snarled.

Angered, she calmly asked Jupiter a question no one else wanted to ask: "Jupiter, why didn't you wake up earlier?" she asked, trying not to take her anger out on him.

It's not his fault and he didn't know, but seriously?

Instead of waking up when his own son is being abused and stopping it, he wakes up because his title was taken away.

Puzzled, Jupiter just looked at her in wonder. "What do you mean? I was badly injured. I mean, I was..." he paused and groaned as he held his side.

Their eyes snapped open, thinking something was wrong.

He raised his hand in the air to reassure them. "I'm fine. My side just hurts a little, and my lungs haven't been strained in a long time. I can't imagine what it'll be like when I try to walk. Usually people who come out of comas don't have all their bodily functions back. They've been asleep for so long. But since we're werewolves, we recover quickly. That doesn't mean we don't feel the aftereffects."

Seth heaved a sigh, glad that his father wasn't in danger.

She nodded, "I understand. So you need to practice walking then?"

Jupiter nodded in agreement, "Right. My lungs are burning right now, and my throat is on fire," he paused and continued, "But like I said... something big has to happen for me or my wolf to wake up."

She blinked once... Maybe twice, before she frowned. "So Seth being abused and nearly killed by your own mate wasn't enough to wake you up? He was blamed for putting you in a coma."

There, she said it.

There was no turning back now.

She glanced to the side and saw Seth widen his eyes in fear and swallow hard. She could feel him getting nervous, afraid of what his father would say.

"... What? You've got to be kidding me!" said Jupiter, rejection written all over his face.

She felt bad about the next sentence that would come out of her mouth, but it had to be done. He'd to know, even if it hurt him.

"Sir," she paused to get his attention, "Seth is mute."
