Her Alpha Mate 55
Freya:
The car ride was tense. I realized that we were both trying to control our carnal desires. I was sure that if the ball was not so important, Zack would have stopped and let us have it.
When we finally reached the hotel where the ball was being held, Zack rushed around the car and opened my door before I could move.
I had a chance to move. He took my hand and helped me out of the car, being careful not to catch my dress anywhere.
Once I was safely out of the car, he put an arm around my waist and pulled me to his chest as he closed the door behind me. He locked the car and smiled down at me as I looked at him in confusion. Was there a reason he was just holding me? Didn't we want to go inside?
Zack kissed me on the forehead, which set off butterflies in my stomach.
You'd think we were meeting for the first time.
"I do not know if I told you clearly or not, but you look stunning, like a goddess. My goddess."
I blushed and kissed his lips, "Thank you.
You have dressed up nicely. I like the tie."
He chuckled, "We can use it later. If you know what I mean, Miss. He-bites-his-meat on."
I gasped and slapped him on the chest, "It's not my fault you all have dirty thoughts. Who in their right mind would think someone was masturbating in the middle of the woods?"
A throat cleared loudly, interrupting our conversation. Our heads turned to the man standing at the top of the stairs.
He raised an eyebrow and grinned a little,
"Alpha Zack. Luna Freya. I hate to interrupt your fascinating conversation, but you are blocking the way of the other Alphas.
Alphas who are on their way. So if you could give one of the servants the keys..."
Zack tossed the keys to a young man and held me by the waist as we climbed the stairs. When we reached the top, the man bowed respectfully, "Luna Freya. You look beautiful, ma'am."
The grip around my waist tightened and obtrusively nudged Zack, "Thank..."
"Tyler," he finished, giving me a small smile. I returned it kindly and waited for Zack to shake his hand before we entered the hotel.
A clerk led us into the ballroom, where several alphas and their lunas were walking around, chatting happily.
"Freya!" My mother ran up to me and pulled me into a hug. She hugged me tightly before pulling Zack into a hug.
My father followed her slowly, sipping his champagne and nodding to the other alphas as he approached us.
"Hello princess. You look....reif," he said, giving me a sideways hug. I could see he did not exactly like the low neckline and high slit, but he knew not to say anything in front of my mother - the conversation would get my poor father a month on the couch.
Before I could say anything back, my mother excitedly grabbed my arm, "Come with me, dear. I want you to meet the other Lunas."
I looked back at Zack frantically as my mom pulled me away.
So much for sticking together.

Zack:
I ended up in the middle of a group of
Alphas who had several questions about Griffins and Freya's blessing. After I explained everything for the millionth time, the conversation finally turned to transfers and rogues.
I kept an eye on Freya and made sure she was comfortable, especially since it was her first ball, but she seemed fine. I could hear her laughing with some of the lunas and making decent conversation with the older women.
And to my great satisfaction, no other men had approached her.
Especially not that bastard Issac and his posse.
I'd noticed he'd eyed her a few times as she passed, but he had not said anything.
My wolf was on guard, though, pacing nervously, eager to get to his mate. I tried to calm him down, but he was just excited about PME - my acronym for Post-Mating Emotions.
While I was talking to Alpha Nathan, Peter came up behind me and patted me on the back, "Do not look now, but Issac and his posse are after Freya."
The anger inside me cooled, and I turned in time to see Issac kissing Freya's hand. My wolf growled angrily and shook out his fur. 'Mate. My mate. He's a pig. Throw him to the squirrels. Go!'
I agreed with him, right down to the squirrel comment, but still put my glass down and walked over to the small group.
I was just in time to hear Issac say: "So beautiful. Where have you been all my life?"
Freya blinked and gently pulled her hand out of his grip, "Um, living my life. With my mate."
A smile grew on my face at her words.
'This is my mate.' My wolf snorted proudly and moved closer to stare at her.
"Gentlemen," I cleared my throat and walked around them to get to Freya. She smiled warmly, but I could clearly read the look in her eyes. She had the save-me-from-this-horny-alpha-who-has-no-respect-for-my-comrades look.
I pulled her to my side and buried my nose in her hair to make my wolf stop huffing and puffing, and kissed her temple, "Hello darling."
Issac scowled at me as my arm tightened around Freya, who seemed slightly annoyed by this exchange and loosened my grip.
"Issac, I see you've met my Luna," I said, grinning as his eyes narrowed as my hand gripped her hips.
He shook his head, "I'd no idea she was paired. I thought she was just dating. Her mark was too small for me to notice.
Maybe you should have made it bigger."
His squad chuckled softly, and I rolled my eyes at his immaturity.
"He'd already marked me in other places, so there was no need for this sign to be big," Freya added sweetly, "Besides, everyone knows we belong together."
Issac seemed surprised by her contribution,
"Uh, yeah. Of course, silly me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I see some people I need to talk to."
We looked at him like his ass was on fire, and I took the opportunity to talk to Freya before someone else interrupted us.
"I'm sorry about that," I mumbled sheepishly.
"I know you don't like it when I'm possessive."
"It's okay. I've noticed. I tried not to let it bother me," she said, stroking my cheeks and standing on her tiptoes to give me a kiss.
We heard an "ouch" and parted to see that we'd an audience of older Lunas.
They smiled sheepishly and quickly turned away as if they hadn't been watching us kiss.
I chuckled and took her hand, "How about we stay together tonight? My wolf isn't averse to throwing some of these alphas to the squirrels, chipmunks, or other creatures that eat acorns."
"I thought the saying was to throw them to the wolves."
"Well, that doesn't quite apply in our case, does it?"
She pursed her lips, "Good point. But can you imagine?"
We looked at each other and burst out laughing.
That was a picture I'd pay for.
