Her Broken Mate 34
Seth put the medicine in his mouth and drank a handful of water before setting the bottle down. He sighed and got ready for the next session of his therapy.
So much time had passed since Sarah had been in a coma.
He really wished she was in his arms right now.
Groaning softly, he hurried down the stairs to Alfred's office, where Alfred claimed he'd a surprise for Seth.
He opened the door and asked softly, "Alfred, are you there?"
When he entered the office, he was taken aback by who was here. His father, Jupiter, was sitting casually next to his usual seat. Another chair was empty, but it was almost like a Socratic seminar where students had their tables in a circle to have a discussion.
He bit the inside of his cheek and wondered, "Is this...? group therapy?"
His father and Alfred turned their heads toward him at the same time.
"Yes, it's." Alfred smiled heavily and leaned back.
His father stared at him, astonishment in his eyes as he took note of his presence. "You look great, son. Therapy has done wonders for you, but you've also been doing your own work, haven't you?"
He smiled, "Yes, I've. Thanks Dad."
His father patted the seat next to him and he gently sat down.
They talked and laughed together until someone else came in. The person Seth had blamed and hated since the day his father had fallen into a coma.
Stella, his mother.
In his mind, Virus was getting angry. Virus, who was always calm and thought carefully before acting, didn't care anymore. He wanted to transform and rip out her throat, make her beg for mercy and banish her so that she'd never come back.
Unconsciously, a vicious growl escaped him.
The room immediately fell silent as Stella closed the door as she entered. It's funny, because Seth had ordered her never to set foot in front of him again. But because of Alfred, he insisted that this was very necessary.
So he rescinded his order.
However, he regretted it a little, because he detested this woman.
Ironically, she sat down next to him with ease.
Seth, at least, didn't like her sitting next to him.
She was his abuser, the one who'd ruined him. If anything, he never wanted to be around her. At the time, he never understood why he didn't return the favor.
When she tried to get Seth's attention, he glared at her, hatred seeping from every fiber of his being.
She swallowed, quickly turned away and started a new topic. "Good evening folks, how are y'all doing?"
No one answered, showing their distaste for her. She let out a nervous giggle until his father's eyes turned black, "Why do you smell like another man?" he hissed.
Stella lost the smile and frowned, "What do you mean?"
Stella wanted to be friends with his father again, especially after he rejected her. After Jupiter woke up, her look at him changed and she pretended nothing ever happened.
As if Seth would ever let that happen.
"Don't be so ... stupid, Mom. You know what you've been doing all these years," he growled, hating the way the title sounded, even though she didn't even deserve it.
Her frown deepened. "I ..."
"Okay, that's enough. We didn't come here for marriage counseling. We're here for Seth, so please put that aside for the moment." Alfred frowned.
They all fell silent, waiting for Alfred's instructions.
He clapped his hands and asked, "So, let's get started. Seth, how did you feel when your mother performed this treatment on you?"
And so it went on as he told his part, and his father and... His mother told her part of how they felt. His father's part brought tears to Seth's eyes, because Seth knew he wished he could've done everything in his power to save him.
And his mother's part?
He didn't care about that.
It was only when she spoke for herself that he snapped. The emotions that had risen in him all those years ago, how he'd developed since therapy.
"I ... don't want to hear it!" Seth shouted.
She winced as she began to sob, "Seth, please understand. I wasn't thinking when I was under the influence of alcohol. I swear I'll never drink again, please forgive me."
Seth waited until her cries subsided and said his part before leaving.
"Do you understand...? No, Stella. I don't ...
don't see you as my mother, and I never will again. A real mother would never blame her own child for something that was inevitable... I may have forgiven you, but don't expect me to accept you into my life right away. I'm glad you brought me into this world because I got to know Sarah, but I don't want you near me."
Her hiccups as she cried grew louder.
"If Sarah and I have puppies, you are forbidden to ... to come near them. You cannot imagine the pain and suffering I have endured during the years you abused me. Never in my life have I wanted so much to die for something that was not controllable. I felt dirty, worthless, disgusting, a fool, a mistake. Alone, scared, helpless and so ... A lot of things you would not understand if I mentioned them."
Stella suddenly cried out, "But I understand..."
"No, you do not!" he growled back, his eyes black with anger.
She whimpered at the air of his authority and power, knowing he was now an Alpha. An Alpha whose mate was in a coma. One with whom it was dangerous to be restrained.
"You starved me, fed me shit. You whipped me, you scarred me ... More than any other scars. You threatened me that you would continue to beat me if I made the slightest sound. And now here you are, still claiming ... that you understand and that you are sorry," he whispered bitterly, "you are a joke."
The room was silent, so silent you could have heard a pin drop.
As he eyed the people around him, his father's and Alfred's eyes were wide with shock. They did not know he had that kind of power inside him. To see it was amazing to them.
When he had enough of therapy and knew it was only a one-day session, he dismissed himself with the words, "Thank you ... For everything Alfred, Dad. I will see myself out now."
Before he stepped out the door, he warned,
"Stella... don't you ever... show your face in front of me, or else..."
She nodded shakily and a soft cry escaped her.
From that day on, she would never step on him again.
Because this time he is the alpha.
