Her Alpha Mate 28
Everyone was silent as Zack stepped into the circle and unwrapped his shirt. He rolled his shoulders and gave Reece an expectant look.
While everyone was shocked because their
Alpha challenged someone, Freya just stared at him like a deer in headlights. Her she-wolf licked her muzzle at his shirtless being as if she didn't care about a fight with him.
Freya might've trained to be an Alpha, but she wasn't ready to fight one of the strongest Alphas in the nation.
"What do you say, Sweet Pea?"
It took her a minute to realize that Zack was talking to her.
"Sweet Pea?" she asked incredulously.
Are we going to start calling each other awkward names now? she thought.
Not that that was a problem, because she'd plenty of gross names she could call him, but still.
"Mhmm, do you've a problem?"
She pulled her hair back into a high ponytail and gave him a sweet smile, "Not at all, Kit Kat"
The smile was wiped from his face as he narrowed his eyes.
"Um," Matthew interrupted her awkwardly, watching their exchange, "Freya, are you up for another duel?" She nodded and he sighed, "Okay, then go to the edge of the ring, both of you."
Once they were in position, Reece cleared his throat and gave them both pointed looks, "You two aren't mates in this ring. You're enemies..."
"Mattie boy, we get it. Just get to the fight," Chance said, watching them gleefully. This whole ordeal seemed to be entertaining for everyone around them. Freya saw Pearl watching with a grin from the sidelines. She gave Freya a thumbs up and slammed a fist into her hand as if to say, "Finish him."
Reece rolled his eyes, "Fighter in position. Ready."
The two straightened up and began checking each other's position.
"Fight."
The word had barely left Reece's mouth before Zack was inches away from Freya, lunging at her with a determined look on his face. She quickly dodged him and moved to the other end of the ring to buy her some time while he tried to gage her next move.
Freya realized she couldn't wing it, because Zack could squash her like a bug if she didn't come up with a plan quickly. She'd to figure out his weakness.
'His balls.' suggested Aurora.
Freya frowned inwardly at her wolf's advice. If anything, he'd protect his crotch the most, knowing that was the weakest and most easily accessible area for her. This was a futile attempt.
Her wolf went up and down in her head while Freya blocked a few punches and tried to land one or two herself.
'Any other ideas,' Freya asked.
'Quickly name a spot where he's sensitive that you touched when you kissed him.'
'His sacrum.'
'His what? You just said his cock was out of the question.'
'It's not his cock. It's near the end of his spine, right above his butt.'
'How did your hands get there? You should have gone lower.' Aurora grinned.
'Does it really matter that much now? Just know that when I touch that spot, he shudders.'
'Okay, that's enough. Remember that this isn't a battle of skill for you, but a battle of seduction.'
Freya didn't have time to respond to her wolf's statement because Zack punched her in the shoulder, causing her to fall on her back. There was a victorious gleam in his eyes as he lunged and reached for her throat.
But she did a backflip and dodged just in time for him to land ungently in the dirt. She scrambled to her feet and tried to circle him, but he quickly pulled her back to the ground with her ankle.
The problem with this fight was that Zack was very quick on his feet. If he got hit or stumbled, he didn't get out of step, which made it difficult for Freya to get to his sensitive spot.
He tried to climb on top of her, which she allowed, thinking it would be easier to get to his back. She began to squirm under him, digging her claws into his wrists so he couldn't get to her neck, and she managed to wrap her legs around his waist.
This was perfect. She lifted her foot and rammed her heel right into his sacrum.
His face contorted in pain, making her heart ache a little at the sight.
What she hadn't counted on, however, was that his pelvic area would bump right up against hers, sending a wave of pleasure through her at the friction.
They both froze in shock for a moment before he slapped his hands over her head with his left hand and grabbed her throat with his right.
Freya wanted to screw up her face because her plan had backfired, but she finally blushed at the look on Zack's face. He stood up and pulled her up with him before grabbing her cheeks and kissing her on the forehead. The people around them suddenly started applauding and whistling, startling the two as they broke away from each other and looked at Reece.
To her surprise, he gave her a small smile before saying, "Alpha Zack is the winner!"
The wolf whistles got even louder, and Zack chuckled and kissed her on the head.
"Good job, you've a very good defense. I almost had trouble landing a blow," he said, burying his nose in her hair. She felt his wolf burst with pride through the mating bond, which made her smile.
"Thank you. You did good, too."
He seemed to want to say something else, but Pearl walked over and pulled Freya into a brief hug. She gave Freya a grin that confused her, but when she realized Zack wasn't paying attention, she said, "Putting aside the fact that Zack is my brother, that was probably the strangest fight I've ever seen. I didn't think it was possible for a fighting couple to look sexy, but you guys pulled it off. I heard at least five people say that was hot."
Freya didn't know whether to wince, laugh, or blush, so she opted for all three.
Zack suddenly coughed loudly, which drew her attention to him: "Can I borrow my Sweet Pea?"
Freya sparked at him, "Stop calling me Sweet Pea, Kit Kat.
He rolled his eyes, lifted Freya up and put her over his shoulder, "You said..."
"It's sad that your only response is to pick me up and put me over your shoulder," she said, clicking her tongue to feign disappointment, "I expected more from you, Zack."
He ignored Freya's statement and started to walk through the crowd when she heard someone say something that made her cringe.
"I don't get it. She's done nothing to prove she's a good Luna for our pack, and everyone worships her like she's a goddess. I'm the best warrior the pack has, and I could be a better Luna than she's."
Zack growled loudly, causing the girl to whimper. Freya heard Chance snap at her in a tone Freya had never heard from him before, "Shut up, Broke. How dare you say something like that?"
Freya didn't hear her reply because Zack started running somewhere. When he came to a stop, he put her on the ground and steadied her. She blinked a few times before giving him a confused look, "Why did you bring me here?"
"We need to talk," he said, sitting down on the ground and leaning against a tree. She sat down next to him, but he pulled her onto his lap so she was sitting astride him.
"Is something wrong?"
He groaned and leaned his forehead against hers. "How can you ask me that so casually? Of course there's something wrong, Sweet Pea."
She waited for him to explain, and he let out a soft sigh before stroking his hands down her back.
"When I asked you to fight me, I didn't want to hurt you. A few of my advisors complained that you couldn't be Luna because you hadn't done anything to show you were up to the office. So I decided to challenge you to a duel so you could prove your worth."
Freya pursed her lips and stared at the tree bark behind his head. What was she supposed to say? It was as if his pack had his old way of thinking, too. They wouldn't accept her until she proved she was a good Luna.
"I'm sorry, Freya," he whispered.
"Zack, it's..."
"It's not all right, Freya. I felt you flinch when that despicable woman made that remark."
She remained silent. It was hard for her to comprehend what she was feeling.
Was I angry? Was I hurt? I don't know, she thought.
"It's like I can't do anything right," Zack said softly, "I keep hurting you."
"Zack, that's what some of your pack members said, not you."
"I did, Freya, you shouldn't be so quick to dismiss our past. I hurt you just as much as they're hurting you right now."
The expression on his face made her heart ache again. He looked so sad and disappointed in himself. She lifted his chin and forced him to look at her, "Tell me what you're thinking about."
He swallowed hard, gently grabbed her hand and kissed her fingertips, "I think I need to make up for everything I said or thought about you before we continue our relationship. I think the whole incident with my advisors is the Moon Goddess' way of telling me that you shouldn't forgive me so easily because I don't deserve it."
The determined and confident look on his face gave her pause. This was something he wanted and needed to do. She'd a feeling that if he didn't do it, he'd be upset for days or even months.
"Freya, I asked you to prove to me that you could be a good Luna. Now let me prove to you that I deserve you."
She gave him a small smile and pressed a kiss to his cheek, "If this is something you want to do, then do it. Show me that you deserve me."
A big smile formed on his face as he said, "You got it, Sweet Pea."
