Her Broken Mate 45

"Jupiter, we need to talk." said Sarah, folding her arms.

Seth stood beside her and watched the scene unfold.

Her father-in-law, who seemed to be in a hurry, looked at her with a blank expression.

"About? Look, Sarah. I'm in a hurry. Can this please wait?"

"What's the rush? It's only a few minutes. I need to ask a few questions."

"Then it can wait. I really need to get going. How about tomorrow morning?" he said, his words seeming more urgent.

She shook her head and persisted. "It's about Martha."

That... caught his attention.

"What... about her?" he asked, frowning.

Seth butted in, seeming impatient with his father. "Dad... Before Sarah went into a coma, she said something to us. That was before the attack. That was when Ludovic, Beatrice and Kate died."

"... I'm listening."

Her mate continued without breaking eye contact. "She said you didn't just reject her. Martha also kept saying she was taking back what was originally hers. Do you've any idea what that means to you?"

Jupiter stiffened, his eyes turning black. He fell silent before saying, "No, I don't. If you'll excuse me, I've to go now."

And just like that, he was gone.

Seth and she looked at each other and nodded. Just by their body language, they understood each other.

They would follow his father.

"There you're... Pita. I was beginning to think you'd never show up." said Martha, staring at her dangerously sharp nails.

"You haven't called me that nickname since high school." said Jupiter, his sad expression confusing her.

He even made her angry.

"Oh, shut up. How dare you look at me like that. You don't deserve to make a face like that. Are you feeling sorry for me?" she hissed.

He shook his head, "I don't. I... I regret everything. It's my fault you're like this."

"Like this, I've always been like this. You left me for that bitch Stella! She's a cheater, don't you know that? I heard she sleeps with other unmated males in the pack. Or widowed ones. Don't you feel stupid? If you'd stayed with me, you wouldn't have to worry about being cheated on," she said, grinning at him.

"... It's not about Stella. You know why I arranged this private meeting."

Martha scoffed. "To keep me from attacking your precious son and his mate?
Information about why I attacked?"

"That's right. Put an end to this madness. I'll even give you me. But leave the pack alone," he pleaded.

She just cackled, "Seriously? You really think I'm going to stop? Do you think I want you? I'm going to get even. You took what was supposed to be mine. And now I'm going to kill what's precious to you right now."

"I don't understand. We were together in high school. That was a long time ago. You're being petty. It's stupid to start a war over a broken heart. Think of the lives that will be lost in the process." said Jupiter, shaking his head.

This made Martha tremble with anger.

"You think this is about you rejecting me? You killed my baby!" she screeched, showing him her fangs.

Sarah flinched... Surprised by this information.

Seth stopped next to Sarah, his eyebrows drew together and he began to tremble slightly.

"It was only fair that I did the same to Beatrice's child. Now I'm going to kill your useless son too."

Jupiter's shoulders shook as he soon remembered everything. He'd forgotten that one important piece of information. That one little detail.

"Look... I forgot. I've been in a coma for a long time. But you've to understand this,
I'd to do it! Stella would have rejected me otherwise. She'd have refused to give birth to my puppies!" said Jupiter, trying to make her see reason.

"Oh, that's a classic. You forgot," she said with a sarcastic undertone in her voice. Growling, she glared at Jupiter. "So our puppy couldn't survive because you're so selfish? I could've raised that puppy on my own. Because of you, I'm INFERTILE! The day we shared the bed together, you drugged me in my sleep, and I trusted you! You aborted the fetus that was inside me. OUR baby... you killed our puppy." she paused, tears streaming down her cheeks. "I woke up with blood soaked bedding. The pain was unbearable. The drug you used has no side effects. It can cause infertility. I tried for years to have another child, but to no avail."

Jupiter grunted as he remembered what he'd done, but he refused to budge. "If Stella found out I got you pregnant, I'd have been finished. She was meant to be my Luna. As for you, I could never be with a monster. You're a hybrid."

Martha ran a hand through her hair, trying to calm herself. But Jupiter could see that his words hurt her.

"If you think I'm the monster, look at yourself first. For the pain you've caused me, you deserve twice as much," she hissed, turning her back on the man she once loved. She continued, her voice breaking. "I loved you. With all my heart and soul. I even rejected my mate to be with you. In the end, he found his second chance mate. For me, there was no more chance..."

Seth frowned and rolled his eyes. "This isn't my fault. You chose it. Did I force you to make a choice?"

Martha grew quiet.

"You led me to believe that we could've been together forever. You told me that you'd reject your partner if you ever saw her. You've lied to a lot of people. That's why I gave you my first time. I believed you," she paused, "and that was my first mistake." she closed her eyes and let a single tear fall. "I told you about my past. About how my mother was a vampire and my father was a werewolf. They were mates, but because of that, I was an outsider. I was bullied every day. And then you came along and gave me false hope and broke promises. At the end of the day, you're just like everyone else. You used me, abused me, and abandoned me," she whispered, biting her lip.

Sarah could hear a sneer from Seth's father. This man was unfathomable. "Okay, enough. Your sob story isn't going to get us anywhere. I've tried to be patient, but don't try to blame everything on me."

Silence filled the courtyard, and Seth and Sarah held their breath. This was just so cruel.

"I realize now that you'll never change.
Not only do you enjoy gaslighting me, but you love-bombed me in the beginning.
You're the definition of toxicity. And manipulation. And now you don't see your guilt. Everything about you is a lie. You're a fake son of a bitch." Martha said softly before looking Jupiter straight in the eye.

Jupiter ignored everything she said and just defended himself. "You're delusional. I'm a great father to Seth. Don't you dare say I'm a fraud. My love for him is real."

"Just like you said your love for me is real?" she replied, her voice sounding like poison.

"You act like you're a funny father. But we all know who you really are." Martha added.

Jupiter grew silent, remembering why he'd arranged the meeting. He clenched his jaw and became angry, but restrained himself. "Why are you taking blood bags from our deceased pack members? You're turning these rogues into hybrids, aren't you?"

Mocking him, Sarah laughed to herself. She'd finally realized that no matter what she said, it wasn't reaching him. It couldn't reach narcissists. "Vampires need blood. Werewolf blood is a delicacy. And yes ... if I turn these rogues into hybrids, they can be of the greatest use. Stronger than you."

Seth's father sighed and scratched the back of his head. "If I apologize, can we just put this behind us? I'll do what I can to make it up to you. I know it's not much, but-"

"It's never going to be enough. You took away my choice," she interrupted him. Martha had had enough of his nonsense and ended the conversation with one last sentence. "No more negotiations. You've had your chance."

And just like that, Martha disappeared into the night.

Jupiter stood in the middle of the field, staring in the direction she'd been standing before.

Seth was lost, just as Sarah was. Seth sat beside her, his eyes pitch black. Anger rolled off him in waves, with a hint of sadness.

They sat there and became aware of one thing.

He wasn't the man they thought he was...

There were always two sides to every story. And then there was the truth.

The question was what they would do now.
