Her Broken Mate 17
Rage, that's what Sarah saw. In and out of his eyes before he roared loudly, "WHAT?!! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?!"
The heart monitor began beeping loudly, signaling danger to his heart. If he keeps freaking out like this, his heart will fail and the nurses will rush in here in a panic.
"Please calm down, I'll explain," she said, her Luna authority spreading in waves, hoping to calm him down.
Jupiter does as she says, and the monitor now beeps as loudly as it should.
He stared at her expectantly, waiting. She looked over at Seth and nudged him. This surprised him, but he quickly composed himself and looked her in the eye as if asking, "What?"
She gestured with her head in his father's direction, "You've to tell him, Seth, it's not my place to do that."
He frowns, but takes note that she's no longer coddling him and that he needs to try harder. A heavy sigh escapes him before his eyes mist up. When he looks back at Jupiter, his eyes are also misting up. It was amusing to see their facial expressions keep changing as they seemed to be having an argument in thought connection.
A good forty-six minutes later, the mind-link fight was over. Jupiter, on the other hand, wasn't even close to being finished, as he raged on.
"Are you saying that my mate, Stella, your own mother, did this to you? Along with other pack members? They made you mute because they blamed you for something you didn't even do?"
Seth nodded, afraid of his reaction.
Life was full of surprises today, because just before Jupiter could answer Seth, a caramel-colored wolf burst through the door. From what Sarah smelled, it was a she-wolf. Unexpectedly, Jupiter seemed to recognize her as he staggered out of the hospital bed.
As he got out of bed, he quickly fell down. The she-wolf stepped closer and helped him up. Jupiter used her form as leverage to get up, but he still wasn't stable.
Several minutes passed before he finally regained his balance.
His eyes seemed to be focused only on her and no one else, so Sarah felt like she was interrupting a personal moment between them.
They were in their own little world, as if no one else mattered but them.
Seth, however, seemed transfixed as he continued to walk slowly backwards. Sarah looked at him in confusion and then understood why.
The she-wolf changed back into her human form, revealing Stella.
Sarah immediately became angry, for she perceived this she-wolf as a threat. She almost turned at that moment before Jupiter stopped her with the words, "Don't do it, Sarah," he said darkly and stood between them like a shield.
Sarah's eyes turned charcoal, outraged that he'd dare defend someone who abused his own son. A mate at that.
Thunder turned in her mind, growling loudly, wanting to kill the she-cat. To see her bleed under her paws.
Seth, recovering from his fearful state and seeing how serious the situation was, hesitantly hugged Sarah from behind, sending sparks flying between them.
Thunder purred, her growl quieted. She leaned against Seth, enjoying the warmth. His scent whisked her away to paradise.
Seth was touching Sarah more often now, which meant he was slowly overcoming his trauma. Her mate was becoming an alpha, and she's sure everyone else saw it too.
A smirk played around his lips before his expression turned serious. He let go of her and turned to face his father.
Jupiter, however, had other plans. He gave them a determined nod and turned his attention back to Stella.
Confused, they watched the scene unfold before them.
Jupiter narrowed his eyes, disappointment and anger rolling off him in waves. Stella whimpered at her companion, stepping closer to him, trying to reach him. He pulled his body back in a flash, showing her his displeasure. Sarah could see tears welling up in Stella's eyes as realization dawned on her.
Her companion knows what she did.
Like a dam, everything burst out of Stella.
"Jupiter... please, please, forgive me. I know what I did was wrong, but... I just couldn't bear the thought of losing you!
You were in a coma and I thought you'd never wake up again," she cried, tears finally rolling down her pale cheeks.
He shook his head, "That's no excuse for blaming everything on our son! He was fourteen at the time and couldn't even shift gears. I'm the one who should be blamed for him being in a coma, because I'm the one who chased him! Look at him, Stella! He's mute, for God's sake! Because of what you did, some of the pack members still resent Seth, and that's why you made the pack look weak! A mute alpha will be looked down upon, because as an alpha you've to have authority and control. If you're mute, that's not possible! Don't you see what you've done!!!" Jupiter cried out, his claws sharpening.
Stella broke into a sob and begged him to forgive her.
Jupiter stood still, shaking. He tried to hold back, to comfort his companion.
Jupiter took a deep, shaky breath, and tears came to his eyes as well. "I cannot forgive you for this. You're his mother and also my companion. But this," he pointed his finger back and forth between them all, "can't go on like this."
Stella must've realised what was about to happen, because her eyes widened unimaginably, "No, please. Anything but that! We're mates, Jupiter!" she exclaimed.
In a restrained voice, he whispered, "I, Jupiter Inker, reject you as my mate."
