Her Broken Mate 14

Sarah blinked rapidly into the brilliant light, shielding her eyes from it. As quickly as it had come, it dimmed enough for her to tune in to what was happening.

Standing in front of her was Seth, looking stunning in his casual clothes. He took her by the hand and released Emily to stand next to Ryan. She walked hand in hand with Seth to the podium, grinning from ear to ear with excitement.

The crowd of pack members cheered and roared wildly, clapping their hands in delight. They have been waiting for this moment for years, and now it is coming true.

Seth raised a hand and told everyone to be quiet. His eyes veiled before he made a waving motion toward Sarah, as if to introduce her to the pack. The crowd erupted in applause, welcoming her and accepting her as their Luna.

They quieted down again as the ceremony began and Ryan said the pledges, since Seth could not;

"Do you, Sarah Jones, pledge your allegiance to the Eternal Moon pack forever?"

"I do."

"Do you promise to protect your pack members, even if it costs you your life?"

"I promise."

"Without further announcement, I present to you Luna Sarah of the Eternal Moon pack!" Ryan grinned and clapped along with the cheering pack members.

All of a sudden, she felt a thin wall in her head. It was like she was blocking a voice, multiple voices. Suddenly a babble of voices erupted, all voices of pack members. Many of them were congratulating her or celebrating that she was their Luna. Others told her to take care of the pack and sent words of encouragement.

It overwhelmed her, but when she imagined a block in her mind, the voices disappeared as if they had never existed.

She heaved a sigh and was relieved that the hard part was over. Now she had to go around with Seth and mingle with the individual pack members.

Now that she was officially a Luna and welcomed back into the pack, the last thing she needed was to tag Seth to communicate with him.

Gracefully, Sarah walked up to a smiling Seth and was about to address him when a certain tom caught her attention. And not in a good way.

"How can you call yourself Alpha when you can not even introduce your own mate to everyone, eh, Alpha?" The man roared, his face red from the alcohol.

Seth immediately paled as the whole ceremony went silent. Before the situation could get any worse, Emily stepped in and ordered the guards to take the man away.

The man had struggled, but eventually went limp from the exposure to alcohol.

Even though the man was gone, no one made a move to do anything. Not a sound was heard, everyone was waiting for instructions on what to do next. At that moment Sarah stepped in, her first task as Luna.

In a loud and clear voice Sarah called out, "I hope you enjoy the party, Seth and I will be with you shortly."

And already the ceremony was back in full swing. The puppies played tag while their parents had little conversations with each other. The elders, on the other hand, were enjoying their once-in-a-lifetime break.

For the first half of the party, Seth accompanied them to greet everyone.
However, when she went to get drinks, he was nowhere to be found.

She jogged over to Emily and Ryan and asked in a hushed tone, "Have you guys seen Seth? He should be doing the greeting with me."

They both gave her a blank look before turning to each other and back to her.

Emily bit her lip thoughtfully, "No, I have not.
The last time I saw him was during the ceremony."

Ryan nodded at her and gave Sarah a tired look, "I suspect he's in his room. Maybe he's upset about that man's outburst earlier, you should go check on him."

A pang of hope came over Sarah as she thanked them both. She turned and hurried into the packing house and up the stairs, careful not to trip over her dress.

She wandered the hallways looking for Seth's door. Finally, she was at his door. She took a deep breath and knocked firmly.

No answer.

She knocked again and still no answer.

Pushing open the door, she called softly, "Seth?"

A strangled cry answered her, a cry that was very familiar. There, on the bed, sat Seth. His elbows were resting on his thighs while he had his hands in his hair. His whole figure was shaking because of his screams.

Thunder began to whimper and asked her to comfort him and see what was wrong. She pushed the door open with a bang and made him aware of her presence.

As she slowly approached him, Seth seemed to grow more and more tense. Finally, she could only stop in front of him, thinking that he would flinch if she touched him casually.

When his tears had dried, he took out his notepad.

He quickly scribbled on it and turned it over.

They were the words she had hoped never to see again in her life.

'Am I even worthy of you?'
