Her Alpha Mate 16
Freya stared at Zack's back as he practically ran out of the room. It was like he couldn't stand to be around her for more than five minutes, even though she knew that was a lie. Her mind wandered back to the moment he'd hugged her, making her blush.
"Did Alpha Zack say something dirty?"
Freya tore herself away from her thoughts and turned her attention to Evelyn, "No. Why?"
She grinned mischievously and nodded at Freya's voice, "You're blushing, chica. I guess he said something really dirty then."
Freya cursed herself as her cheeks felt warmer, even though Zack hadn't even said anything relatively dirty.
"No. He told me to pack because we're going on a witch hunt," Freya said, rubbing her cheeks in annoyance.
"Oh, so he's still a badass."
"Unfortunately," Freya muttered, grabbing her jacket from the corner, "Well, I'm off. Let me know if you need anything before I go."
Evelyn nodded and slapped Freya on the butt as Freya walked out, "Show him, babe. Make him beg for you."
Freya rolled her eyes in amusement, "Your mate won't like it when you spank people.
She snorted, "Issac is just jealous because I don't do that to him. I always knew he'd a thing for..."
"Eve!"
She gave Freya a playful look, "Well, you started it."
"And I'm finishing it. Bye, Evelyn," Freya said, closing the door behind her.
The next three hours flew by as Freya spent her time stuffing things into two backpacks she thought she needed. While she was zipping up one of the backpacks, Zack came into the kitchen carrying a backpack on his shoulder. He looked at her and frowned, "We'll be gone less than a week. Why do you need so many clothes? The backpack will burst."
Freya let his eyes wander to the other backpack she'd just finished packing a few minutes ago. She giggled and struggled with the zipper again, "It's filled with food, not clothes."
His eyes widened, "What're you going to do with that much food?"
"Food, and if you're lucky, I'll share."
He fell silent, and she looked up at him to find that he looked very shocked. It was as if he couldn't believe she'd eat so much. Well, he was in for a surprise. She'd put all her favorite foods in it, and when she started munching, they were gone within seconds.
"Okay," he paused, "are you ready?"
"Yes," she hissed as the zipper finally worked and she was able to close the backpack. She grabbed both backpacks and placed one on each shoulder. He nodded and led her to the front door where his pack warriors stood along with her father, Chance, and Reece.
Her father gave her a concerned look, "Sweetie, are you ready for the trip?"
"I'll be fine, Dad. Look, I even have Oliver's baseball bat," she said, pointing to the bat she'd put in her water bottle pocket.
He sighed and pulled her into a hug, "Be careful, okay? If you need help, let me know right away."
She nodded, broke away from him and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek, "Say goodbye to Mom and Oliver for me."
He nodded, and she followed the men out the door after nodding to her father. As they walked down the hill to the pack's border, Chance took the backpack with the food from her left shoulder, and she gave him a bright smile.
"Okay," Zack called out, causing everyone to stop behind him, "I want two warriors to walk ahead of us to make sure the coast is clear. If you see anything suspicious, let me know and I'll take care of it. When we stop for the night, I'll assign you a shift and everyone will take turns keeping watch. Are we clear?"
"Crystal, Alpha," one of the warriors called out. Zack nodded in satisfaction and headed off into the forest as if taking a casual stroll, while two wolves raced forward to stay in the lead.
"How far are we going today?" Freya asked Reece quietly. She wasn't quite sure how far she could go, since her wolf was still recovering. The doctor had said she'd be fine by tomorrow, but that didn't help her in her current situation.
"Twenty-five miles," Zack answered in front of her before Reece could open his mouth.
"Twenty-five miles?" she squeaked.
Chance ruffled her hair, "What's wrong, little one? You're a werewolf. Twenty-five miles is nothing."
"Not when my wolf is weak."
His lips pursed in understanding, "Want me to piggyback you? I'm sure you're not that heavy."
She was about to retort something when she ran right into Zack's back. He'd stopped by accident, and she glared at him,
"What the hell, Zack? I almost broke my nose."
He turned and snarled at one of the pack warriors, whom she recognized as Hunter. "Grab her bag."
Hunter took the backpack from her before she could protest, and she gave Zack a confused look, "Um, and what am I carrying?"
He rolled his eyes and turned back around, "Get on."
She stared in shock at his slightly bent form, and the rest of his warriors looked equally stunned.
"I said get on," he said in a raspy voice. Chance gave her an amused look, nodded to Zack, and patted her back encouragingly. She stepped forward hesitantly and grabbed Zack by the shoulders, causing him to relax a little. She lunged forward and straddled his back just as he straightened up. He reached for her thighs and she wrapped her arms around his neck, ignoring the tingling she felt from his firm grip.
Chance's wolf whistle caused her to move her head and stare at him. He saw her blush and looked slightly confused, "I'd a few questions about your blood, Freya."
He quickened his steps to walk beside Zack and Reece so she could see him better.
"So, if your blood is golden, how do you blush?"
"I don't know exactly. Maybe it's because
because I've pale skin, but I don't know why my cheeks turn pink."
"What about your period? Are you losing golden blood?"
"Chance!" Zack and Reece both snapped and gave him looks. She was pretty sure they didn't want to know the answer to that question.
"Um, yeah?"
The expression on Chance's face was quizzical.
"I-I, so if I stole one of your pads, I could use the blood to heal injuries?"
"First of all, that's disgusting. And second, it's not just my blood. Haven't you learned anything about the menstrual cycle yet?"
"Okay!" said Zack loudly, cutting her off,
"That's enough."
She shrugged and slowly bent over to reach for the food backpack on Chance's shoulder, "Chance, come closer. I want to get something to eat."
He moved a little closer, and she struggled to unzip it as Zack continued at his fast pace. Fortunately, she managed to unzip the backpack and hold Zack by the neck with her arm without strangling him.
"Okay, who wants Lays? The grilled kind?" she called out to the pack warriors. Most raised their hands, so she started pushing the bags of potato crisps behind her, "How about sour cream?"
A minute later, all the pack warriors were quietly eating their snacks, and she turned to Chance and Reece, "What do you two want? I've potato crisps, onion rings, cookies, brownies, chocolate tuffs, chocorooms, and carrots."
"Carrots?" asked Reece, raising an eyebrow.
She smiled sheepishly and held up the Ziploc, "I love carrots."
He rolled his eyes, "Pass the onion rings."
She nodded and tossed him the bag before looking at Chance expectantly. He scratched his chin thoughtfully, "I want.....cookies."
She handed them to him before finally staring at the back of Zack's head. His black hair shone in the sunlight, and she couldn't help but inconspicuously sniff his hair - it smelled like coconut.
"What do you want to eat, Zack?" she asked softly.
He exhaled, "I'll have the truffles, but you'll have to feed me, because I've got my hands full."
Luckily, she wanted the truffles too, so she grabbed the box of chocolate truffles and zipped up the backpack again. After ripping open the box, she took a truffle and held it up to Zack's mouth. His warm lips tickled her fingers as he slowly took the truffle from her hand. She ignored the shivers that ran down her spine as he licked her fingers to remove the remaining chocolate from them.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Chance and Reece exchange glances when they realised she was feeding Zack. Zack didn't say a word and continued to eat quietly, and she couldn't help but smile.
His ears rose and fell with the movement of his jaw, and she found that simply adorable.
"Hey, Luna!" called Hunter from behind her,
"Can you feed me when you're done feeding Alpha?"
Zack growled loudly, causing Chance and Reece to giggle. She rolled her eyes and popped a truffle in her mouth.
It was obvious this trip was going to be long.
