Her Alpha Mate 52
Chance:
I dropped to the floor beside her and pulled her hands away from her mouth. "Why Betty? What happened?" I asked hoarsely.
She shook her head as a sob escaped her.
I bent down and wrapped my arms around her, trying to comfort her as best I could.
But part of me felt like this was my fault.
That she'd done this because of me.
I swallowed hard and hugged her trembling form tighter to me, "B-betty, if I did this to you-"
She pulled back and stared at me in shock, her cheeks wet with tears, "No, Chance! No."
I expected her to say more, but she stood up, flushed the toilet, and began washing her hands and rinsing her mouth.
I watched her patiently, and when she finished, she sat back against the cabinets again.
She seemed hesitant to say anything, so I decided to wait patiently until she felt comfortable.
"I..." she cleared her throat, "I haven't forced myself to throw up in four years."
"Then what's changed? Why today?" I asked quietly.
She shook her head and stared at her fingers, "Coming back here has triggered a lot of memories. The kind I don't want to remember."
All sorts of thoughts raced through my head.
How could I ask her to stay with me when she was in so much pain just being here? How could I ask her to give up being a tracker to be my gamma female? Should I just ask her to reject me so she could be happy?
"Chance," she said, catching my attention,
"You don't want me."
I blinked and gave her an incredulous look. "And how do you know what I want?"
"When we went to school together, I saw you telling everyone that you'd wait for your partner no matter what, that you'd accept her no matter what. But that's not going to work, Chance, we've nothing in common. Just find someone better, someone who deserves your good heart."
She was wrong. I wouldn't find anyone better. I just had to prove that to her.
I giggled, "Let me ask you something: Do you believe in the moon goddess? Do you trust her?"
She tilted her head slightly and nodded,
"Yes?"

"See, we've that in common, and if you trust the Moon Goddess, then you trust her to make the right decisions for you, right?"
She nodded again.
"The Moon Goddess made the decision to bring us together. You may feel pain right now, Betty. But I'm here to take that pain away from you," I said, brushing a stray hair out of her face.
I waited for her to respond to my words.
Her face slowly changed from calm to happy to tearful again.
"I wasn't waiting for you," she whispered, looking down at the floor in shame.
I put my fingers under her chin and pulled it up so I could look into her eyes, "So what? You didn't know I existed. It's not like you did it to spite me. You did what you thought would make you happy, and if it made you happy, who am I to be upset?"
She burst into tears, wrapped her arms around my neck, and sobbed into my chest. I chuckled and blinked away my own tears.
"We'll take it slow," I said, hugging her to me. I felt her nod against my chest, smiled, and rested my head on hers.
I finally had my mate in my arms.

Freya:
I paced back and forth nervously. What was going on with Chance and Betty?
Did she accept him? What was taking so long?
Zack watched me pace back and forth while he ate some peaches I'd accidentally cut in my nervousness.
"Freya, sit down. You're going to be bored to death," he said, pulling me down beside him.
"I just want to know what happened to them," I sighed, resting my head on his shoulder.
He chuckled and kissed the top of my head, "You're too cute."
"How do you think I'm cute after what I just said?"
"You're cute because you care so much about everyone else. You live by your heart."
"Very funny. So, I'm going to take a shower."
I got up and walked slowly up the stairs, my thoughts still circling around the subject of Betty and Chance.
I didn't know how long I stood in the shower thinking until Zack knocked on the door, "Freya? Are you okay?"
I snapped out of my daze and grabbed my towel, "I'm coming out!"
Once I'd the towel wrapped securely around my body, I yanked the door open, only to find myself gently pressed against the wall as Zack patted me down.
"I was so worried, you were in there for forty-five minutes," he murmured as his hands flew over my body.
The room suddenly felt much warmer than before.
I tried to pretend that his rough hands brushing my skin weren't touching me, but it was hard not to when it felt like my nerve endings were on fire. A shiver ran through my body, causing Zack to stop his wandering hands.
His eyes widened as he recognized our position, and he swallowed hard as he eyed me up and down. He emitted a low, appreciative growl and grabbed me firmly by the waist.
That made me wince.
I tugged at his shoulders and stood on my tiptoes as his lips met mine.
He barely gave me a chance to inhale before he devoured my mouth voraciously.
I wanted to moan at the taste of his lips.
They tasted like peaches and something else that left me wanting more.
One of his hands firmly grasped my thigh and pulled it up so I could wrap it around his waist. As if by instinct, he rammed his hips against mine, making me whimper. Zack's lips traveled down my neck, kissing passionately and biting in random places until he reached my mark. He sucked on it roughly and bit gently before licking over it until the burning faded.
I was literally shaking with desire, and the only reason I was still standing was because he had me pressed against the wall.
He pulled back and let out a low moan as he stared down at me.
Why the hell had he stopped?
At this point, I was absolutely ready to go all the way. Fuck waiting.
I ran a finger over his chest, "Are you ready?"
He rolled his eyes and haphazardly lifted me up, making me squeal. At that angle, I could feel his big erection on me as he walked toward the bed.
"Does it look like I am not?" he asked, breathing heavily against my lips.
I chuckled and pulled on his collar so that our lips touched again.
