Her Alpha Mate 15

Zack could practically hear the crickets chirping after Beta Damien stuttered out his announcement, and it wasn't even night yet. They were so quiet.

The look on Alpha Nathan's face was somewhere between shock and horror. Zack couldn't blame him. Their problems were only getting worse. If the griffins were after Freya, they might also be after the newborn, and that was a big problem - Freya could defend herself, but the newborn couldn't.

"On second thought, we should leave today. The sooner we get to the witches, the sooner we can get our answers and plan ahead," Zack said, breaking the tense atmosphere. They couldn't wait any longer, they'd to act quickly before the wrong people found out about Beta Damien's boy.

Alpha Nathan sighed and cracked his fingers, "I don't know. Freya is still weak and I don't want to overwhelm her."

Beta Damien looked at Alpha Nathan with an exasperated expression, "Please, Nathan. Freya is a strong wolf, she can take care of herself. We need to get some answers. My newborn son is in danger now."

Alpha Nathan stared thoughtfully at the ground for a few minutes before finally nodding, "Fine, I'll send Freya."

Zack nodded and was about to leave when Alpha Nathan stopped him again, "Zack, promise me you'll take care of her. I don't care if you accept her now or not, I just want her to get home safely."

Zack's eyes narrowed, "I may not have accepted her, Alpha Nathan. But I care enough to make sure she's safe."

In response, Nathan nodded in satisfaction before going back to talking to Beta Damien. Once Zack was in the hallway, he walked briskly to the pack hospital, nodding to just a few of the pack warriors on duty. On the way, Zack made a mind link with Chance and Reece, instructing them to pack their things and let their pack leaders know they were leaving.

Zack yanked open the door to the hospital, and the smell of hand sanitizer immediately hit his nose as he walked further inside. His eyes wandered over the numbered doors as he tried to figure out where Freya was.

"Alpha Zack," one of the nurses said with her head down, "how can we help you today?"

"Where's Freya? She should be with Beta Damien's newborn."

The nurse nodded, "Room number 20, Alpha."

"Thank you."

A few seconds later, Zack knocked impatiently on the door. A nurse opened the door and stared at him in confusion, "Can I help you, Alpha?"

"Is Freya here?" he snapped. He was annoyed by all the questions people were asking him. 'Why couldn't they just let me through?'

She nodded and opened the door wider. He stepped inside and saw a woman lying unconscious in a hospital bed. Next to her, Freya stared at the baby sleeping in his bassinet. She looked up and gave him a small smile, "I suppose you heard," Freya whispered.

He nodded and looked at the baby sleeping peacefully in the bassinet, unaware of the danger he was about to face. He wouldn't say he looked cute, because he was red and wrinkled, but there was something about him that made Zack smile.

Freya sighed and stroked the baby's hand with one finger, "Just when I thought our problems couldn't get any bigger. We've a vulnerable baby who's also in danger."

"How did you find out about his blood?"

"They did a blood test," she explained, showing him the baby's heel.

He frowned, "Already? I thought they were going to wait a few days."

"It's different with a werewolf baby."

He nodded and watched as she wrapped the thin blanket around the baby, her pink lips twitching as the baby crinkled its nose. As far as he could tell, she seemed to love children, especially babies, and that was a good thing, because his pack had a lot of children.

'That's good. Mate will want puppies quickly then,' Dickson said.

'We've more important things to do, and you're just worried about the puppies?

'Puppies are fun to make.'

'How would you know? We haven't even tried.'

That shut Dickson up real quick.

"Zack," Freya shouted, trying to get his attention, "Zack!"

He blinked and stared at her, "Yeah?"

"Why are you here? I know you didn't come just to see the baby."

"Oh yeah," he cleared his throat roughly,
"I wanted to tell you to pack your things because we're going to visit a witch. She lives pretty far away, so we'll have to be on the road for at least two nights."

She nodded, "Okay. When do we leave?"

He looked at his watch and pursed his lips. It was already eleven o'clock and they needed time to get ready.

"Be ready at two," he muttered, turning to go. There was a lot to do, and he didn't have time to chat.
