Her Broken Mate 23
Almost half a week has passed since they last saw the wolf, and strangely enough, nothing at all has been sighted. It's been quiet, too quiet.
A shiver ran down Sarah's spine, she didn't like the discomfort.
They trained every day, trying to get stronger. If they kept this up, they'd have an advantage over Martha and her renegade army.
A sly smile played around her lips and she looked forward to making this woman pay for everything she'd done. Right now, Seth was outside training, and she'd just gone inside to look for Jupiter and Stella. Training had started a few hours ago, and it was strange that they weren't there.
As she walked up the stairs, she heard a mixture of moans and groans. She raised her eyebrows, narrowing her eyes in precaution.
Thunder groaned in pain, 'It's not what you think.'
'Are you sure? It sounds like Jupiter and Stella are having the hardest sex I've ever heard in my life," Sarah said with a hint of sarcasm.
'Well, just look for her door. You're in for a surprise,' sighed Thunder, who sounded exhausted before disconnecting.
'What's wrong with her?'
She followed Thunder's instructions and found the door where the sounds were coming from. Before she could open it, her eyes fell on Jupiter sitting helplessly on the wooden floor. He'd his hands in front of his face and just looked dejected.
Next to him was an empty liquor bottle; he looked dazed.
Jupiter seemed to have smelled her scent, his eyes looking into hers. They stared at each other for a few minutes until a scream that sounded like a climax interrupted them.
She watched the door, her gaze drifting back to Jupiter. She was sad for him and could only show her sympathy through the connection. His wolf whimpered, howling with grief and despair. Betrayal seeped from Seth's pores, anger and disappointment rolling out of him in waves.
She got down on one knee until she was at eye level and asked wearily, "Why are you here, Jupiter? You rejected her, remember?"
He bit the inside of his cheek, his words barely intelligible as he slurred them, "After.
After I rejected her, my wolf went berserk, and... and I almost took my own life. I came here to make things right, to maybe become friends with Stella again since we've a son together, but when I saw my ma- I mean, ex-mate," he paused and inhaled heavily, "getting fucked by another man, all my doubts were removed. I realized that she'd moved on faster than I'd, and how foolish I'd been to think that she'd love only me. I immediately regretted the rejection, but I guess it's too late to apologize now."
Sarah watched Jupiter begin to sob, hating himself for rejecting her, but thinking it was the right thing to do. His own mate had abused others and made them dance to her tune because she felt it was her sons fault. His wolf wanted his mate, but he himself didn't want her. It was a dichotomy that made it painful for him.
He didn't deserve this.
She reached out and grabbed his shoulder, making him look at her. She chirped, "The good thing is you can find someone else now. Jupiter, she's moved on. Now it's your turn to do the same, because she's not worth mourning. Find someone else who's. Yes, it's hard to break up with someone you loved, but the next person will always be twice as good," she paused and added, "And remember to never be jealous when you see your ex with someone else. Our parents taught us to give away our used toys to those less fortunate."
Jupiter laughed at that and sobered up.
"You're right, maybe I don't really miss her. Maybe I miss the memories we'd or the future we could've had," he said, sounding hurt.
She nodded, they exchanged a look, glad things were settled.
Without warning, one of the pack members spoke up in her head, 'Luna! We're under attack! Help!'
Her eyes widened, and at that moment a bomb went off nearby, causing a loud echo. The door where Jupiter and Sarah were standing opened, Stella was wearing a bathrobe and a male she'd seen many times before but never approached was wearing his boxers. They smelled of sex and arousal, Sarah almost choked on the smell.
Stella's eyes met Jupiter's, but he looked away. Stella almost looked like she was crying, her face showing shame. The male looked confused, but quickly got ready to go into battle.
Sarah ordered them, "Get out of here! We're under attack. I'll be right behind you!"
The three shuffled to their feet and ran down the stairs. She followed them, damning herself for not connecting with Seth. They didn't even tag each other, making it impossible.
When Sarah arrived outside the pack house, she noticed a small group of rogues fighting with their army. There was chaos, the ground was littered with corpses, more of rogues than of them. She didn't see any bodies that belonged to theirs, which was a good sight.
She moved, shook her fur, and growled out. Her fur bristled, intent on harming anyone associated with Martha. She searched for Seth as she wove her way through each rogue, cutting off or severing their heads.
Blood covered her green fur, making it nearly impossible to spot her. She tore through another rogue trying to claw at her, but that's when she saw Seth. Five rogues had it in for him and were trying to take him down. His wolf was beautiful, a mix of tan and grey, his eyes dark gold.
He looked deadly, his claws tearing through everything in his path. His wolf screamed the dominance of a strong man. One who was worthy of being by her side.
But he was always worth being at her side.
Thunder was impressed, but growled at her to pay attention.
Before Sarah could rush over to help Seth, something glimmered in the corner of her eye. Looking up, she saw Martha pointing an arrow at her mate. It was a silver arrow that could be deadly if used properly.
Adrenaline surged through her and her paws quickened the pace as she leapt in front of Seth, shielding his body.
She had promised to protect him, and that's exactly what she would do.
Then Sarah felt the silver stab her in the chest. A loud whimper escaped her as she fell to the ground with a thud.
Everything was eerily silent, all the wolves staring at their fallen Luna. A sudden rage ran through them as they finished off their opponents. Sarah's eyes slid over to Martha, who was no longer there.
She had fled, leaving some of her people here to die.
Black dots threatened her vision, and she felt herself slowly losing consciousness. That's when she heard it, the voice she had wanted to hear all along. She turned her head and saw her lover running toward her in human form.
The one who sent a shiver down her spine.
One that she had wanted to hear all night long.
And one she would give her life for.
Seth.
"SARAH!!!"
And everything went black.
